My friend has gone mad right?

A friend of mine has recently got engaged. She is VERY excited. All good, this is lovely. She has a very large solitaire ring which is beautiful. She was showing me today over coffee and I oohed and aahed with appropriate gushiness.

She then said “I know, it’s SO lovely! I wouldn’t like rings like yours. Your wedding ring is so overshadowed by your engagement ring and your wedding ring would be so much better if it was a bit wider as it just looks like you’re engaged. I’m so lucky that I got to go and choose my engagement ring because I really wanted something to my taste and I’d have had to pretend a bit if I got yours”

She’s mental to voice this, to care and to give any thought to my rings, right? 😂

I’ll post a picture of my very ordinary and not worthy of remark rings (I love them, I just say ordinary as think they’re pretty normal and not remark worthy as I know whenever I read a post where someone describes things I’m nosy about what it looks like. Also not offended by anyone else’s opinion on my rings if they can even be bothered to have one!).

I’d have made a comment back about having been happy to have found a man who knew me well enough to choose a ring for me that I loved rather than having to get me to find it for myself (DH and I actually chose my ring together but I’d have said that anyway)!

I have a ‘friend’ like this. I’m seriously considering removing myself from the friendship because of it.
It is so wearing and boring.

Your rings are beautiful.

@TenToTheDozen

I have a friend who makes similar comments, and coupled with a general lack of empathy and self awareness, I question if she might have aspergers which presents differently in women

And here we go again with the autism-ignorance and ableism.

FFS. Educate yourself properly.

I don't know how people can get excited about rings

We're all different - and I'm dying to see what everyone else's are like.

Not to make comparisons, but just because I'm bloody nosey interested. There will be a HUGE range of styles and stones, and none of us will like all of them, but we will all have better manners than to say "Jesus wept! That is shite!" (I would hope) Grin.

BumbleBeee69 · 11/03/2020 13:54

I too love to see what people have chosen.. nothing more than an opportunity to Ooohh and Aaaahhh at sparkly beauty... but that's just me ☺️

LightDrizzle · 11/03/2020 13:59

So rude!

redwoodmazza · 11/03/2020 15:17

I think all mine are pretty equal - but that's what I chose.
Each to his own.

@CathyTre can we see your ruby ring? I think it sounds quite nice!

CathyTre · 11/03/2020 15:38

Here you go. Put on instead of engagement ring so you can see its relative massiveness. And hideousness.

My wedding ring cost £30, I picked a thin one so it would sit with engagement ring 🤷🏻‍♀️

Youdreamedmydreamforme · 11/03/2020 15:56

Your ring is gorgeous. She is very rude. Why are you mates with her?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/03/2020 16:00

My friend keeps telling me how much better looking her dog is than mine 🤔. He's really not.

Enough4me · 11/03/2020 16:28

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion next time your friend comments on your dog give your dog a big hug and say s/he is gorgeous and cheer yourself up that you are nice and not commenting on hers.

Mittens030869 · 11/03/2020 16:30

I've certainly never told anyone that my cat is more beautiful than theirs, or compared how good they were at hunting etc. As a cat lover, I just love to see other people's cats. Bizarre. Confused

AryaStarkWolf · 11/03/2020 16:30

Your rings are gorgeous. She was extremely rude and I would have pulled her on it to be honest

PenguinsOnParade · 11/03/2020 16:42

I really love your ruby ring too OP. Ruby is my birthstone though so even big clusters which I don't like usually I have a soft spot for when it's full of rubies. Blush

SudokuQueen · 11/03/2020 16:51

That's harsh of her. I think my pets are gorgeous, but anyone who has the same pet I think their pet is gorgeous too.

TheCherries · 11/03/2020 17:27

It is a beautiful classical ring. Sounds like she is a WAG wannabe and everything including the wedding is going to be about the bling.

Save yourself now and ditch her. She has become a Bridezilla already

thenovice · 11/03/2020 17:41

They are LOVELY rings OP.
Your friend is either over-excited or just plain rude.

Happygirl79 · 11/03/2020 17:45

Your rings are beautiful and your friend is rude

Tabsvik79 · 11/03/2020 17:47

My wedding ring is tiny. I choose that cause I didn’t like any of the wider ones they irritated my finger. As long as u like yours it’s no one else’s business and people should keep their opinion to themselves

MadamShazam · 11/03/2020 17:47

Your rings are lovely OP, unlike your pal, who is a rude witch.

Watermelontea · 11/03/2020 17:48

Well I’d rather a ring like yours, than a boring one stone solitaire one, I find them a bit boring and uninspired. Each to their own!
