Loo rolls

How many loo rolls does a family use a week?
I’ve just had a discussion with a family member who gets through more than 1 a day. I thought that was totally over the top.
For comparison, we use around 2 a week, including visitors which we get most days.

I tend to buy loo rolls when we need them ie a 9 pack a month but how many should we try to keep as ‘backup’ stock so we don’t run out? That is, if there are any in the supermarkets!!

About one roll per week. We use family cloth, but have toilet roll for visitors (and my partner uses it sometimes).

StinkyWizleteets · 09/03/2020 23:35

I was going to make this very post yesterday. Years ago I was given 100 loo rolls as a flat warming present that lasted me four and a half years. My partner alone goes through one a day himself and we keep Andrex afloat with his incessant arsewiping.

I think it’s excessive that a family of four would go through a roll and a half a day.

Biffsboys · 09/03/2020 23:38

rosiejaune - what is a family cloth ?? Shock

Electrical · 09/03/2020 23:42

Wtf, the results of this are 100% more fucked up than the weekly posts about towels! Several per day ?! Are you wiping inside your intestines with it?!
Childfree 2 adults, one with IBS, 1 roll per fortnight, if not longer.

Electrical · 09/03/2020 23:44

I don’t know what a ‘family cloth’ is, but it sounds awful. Is it a flannel for everyone’s genitals? 🤢🤢🤢

ViciousJackdaw · 09/03/2020 23:46

A roll lasts us 2-3 days - there are two of us, DH with IBS and me on codeine so we're at different ends of the scale.

If you give the roll a squash, making it into an oval shape, it's harder to pull too much off.

BlessedAreTheCheesemakerz · 09/03/2020 23:47

One roll lasts 7 or 8 days. 2 of us here.

Devlesko · 09/03/2020 23:50

Aw, family cloth Grin I had one of these with ds1 and 2 when they were tiny - pre school.
Yes, but you rinse it out and it's only for little ones.
better for their skin and the environment too.
We used to take a flannel out for hands and faces, it kept clean and moist until you needed it and you kept it in a nappy sack.

Bowerbird5 · 09/03/2020 23:50

2 adults home about one and a half a week between us. We have visitors too. Two sheets for a wee.
I can’t believe how much some people use and that some people only poo three times a week.😳They need more fibre in their diet.💩

Vallderama · 09/03/2020 23:52

You wipe their arses with the same cloth??!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 23:54

Family cloth is actually making me twitch especially the rinsing out bit..then you have to clean the sink, please tell me you clean the sink after rinsing it!!!

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 09/03/2020 23:58

3 of us.

At one point we were getting through 18 rolls a week until I mounted an undercover investigation to uncover the phantom crapper luxuriating in what must have amounted to a roll per shit.

Ds was found to be the main culprit followed slightly by dp who I fear taught him his generous arse wiping ways........I now keep the loo roll under lock and key in the spare room, have lectured and issued thrifty arse wiping tips and ration one roll per day (( 3 ply, Aldi decent stuff )) for the entire house much to their and their arses disgust.

And it's fine.

Vallderama · 10/03/2020 00:03

Eeeehh, ah remember t'family cloth. Me faither hie it te me wen ah were nobbut a lad. "Gary", he says, wiping snot off nose onto back of his hand, "Gary" he says "this ere en be our family cloth. My granddaddy hie it to my faither, and now ah'm fur passing it on to you. It's wiped the arse of every man, woman and child in this family for three generations now, and after the typhoid ripped through us it's all the more precious".

It were a funny looking thing, not like cloths today, all clean and that. It weren't like that back in them days. We barely had an arse between us truth be told, but I loved that cloth better than my own backside, I'll tell thee that lad.

You can keep your fancy sanitation and hygiene, is what I always say. Hie me a family cloth and a peck of shitty arsed kids over all of them Justin Biebers. Aye, and Netflix too. Aye, family cloth.

SilverySurfer · 10/03/2020 00:06

I live alone and my current roll was put on about two weeks ago. I'm shocked at some of the numbers on here.

starfishmummy · 10/03/2020 00:12

Depends on how many people poo at work I know thats not allowed on MN but tell my dh that

Devlesko · 10/03/2020 00:15

Family cloth is the new penis beaker. Grin
I can't believe you are so bothered about a cloth used by family members. You don't wipe your bloody face with it.
Perfect when potty training, no worse than changing a nappy, or skiddy pants when they are unable to wipe themselves properly yet.
What do you think people did before wipes.

Devlesko · 10/03/2020 00:17

Vallderama

Classic Thanks

BlackeyedSusan · 10/03/2020 00:24

Some people pee often. Some people poo often.

Thin cheap loo roll requires more sheets.

Megan2018 · 10/03/2020 00:24

We have 3 loos, only 2 of us (plus DD only 6 months) We buy a pack of 24 roughly every 6 weeks or so. But usage has gone up with me on mat leave and DH now working from home.

DippyAvocado · 10/03/2020 00:27

2 adults, 2 DC (under 11). We don't use that much, probably no more than 2 per week. We are out 8-5.30 most days though. I buy a 9 pack and only need to get a new one about every 4 weeks.

DH was apparently a very wasteful toilet roll user as a child, to the extent that his DF once decided to number every sheet to see how many he used in one go. Apparently he used over 20! He is nothing like that bad now but still uses more than the rest of us.

Tolleshunt · 10/03/2020 00:28

Three of us. One roll a day.

DD’s like the bloody Andrex puppy though - will never use 2 or 3 sheets, when 15 will do....

AnotherMurkyDay · 10/03/2020 00:32

I usually buy 9 unless they are on offer then I get 12. Lasts the month most months, sometimes the 9 only lasts 3 weeks though. We get through a whole pack of baby wipes every day though Blush

beethebee · 10/03/2020 00:38

Three of us (1 adult 2 DC). About a roll to a roll and a half a week. I work FT and the DC are in school so we’re not home that much, I suppose.

Mumajoy · 10/03/2020 00:42

Approx 18 a week, big family, 3 with allergies (lots of snot and sneezing 🤢) and people in and out all day long. Also multiple useage like mopping spills, more than the kitchen roll, only go through 2 of them a week

Writersblock2 · 10/03/2020 00:44

Maybe a roll a day for two of us, averaged out. Some IBS issues, and I tend to use more when I have my period.
