Loo rolls

How many loo rolls does a family use a week?
I’ve just had a discussion with a family member who gets through more than 1 a day. I thought that was totally over the top.
For comparison, we use around 2 a week, including visitors which we get most days.

I tend to buy loo rolls when we need them ie a 9 pack a month but how many should we try to keep as ‘backup’ stock so we don’t run out? That is, if there are any in the supermarkets!!

Ladies and gentlemen, hot on the heels of the Mumsnet chicken that feeds a family of six for twelve weeks, the Mumsnet thermostat that never goes above 14 degrees and the Mumsnet weekly shop that costs less than a five year old's after school snack (why DO these kids eat all the time anyway, like adult babies suckling on their Costa coffees and dogs that go to weddings), now we have ... The Mumsnet loo roll. I don't understand how anyone uses more bog roll than me. Do they all have massive defective arses or are they just WASTEFUL, wantonly squandering their money on andrex when there are so many more worthy things to spend it on? Personally I prioritise holidays. 👍👌😘😘👏🧐

Mum2jenny · 09/03/2020 22:47

It’s seems very difficult to decide how much loo roll you need if you then are getting visitors to stay for some weeks. This is partly why I’ve posted as I have visitors coming in the next month and I need to decide if I need to increase my stash.
It seems I do, but how much by?

Two adults, both working full time. We use just under 3 rolls a week, up to 4 over Christmas/ New Years.

We’re preppers or budget aware shoppers, so stock up when it’s on offer. I’m afraid to admit that based on our store cupboard we’re fine until Christmas. We’ve not brought any loo paper since January

Symbollove · 09/03/2020 22:48

Wow you go through only 2 rolls a week??? I've been meaning to keep a count on how many we go through, definitely loads, most days we go through 2 rolls a day, it's 4 of us, if am honest I use the most. We also use bidet to clean ourselves, could never feel clean using just toilet roll. We buy a 36 pack which last couple of months

PickAChew · 09/03/2020 22:49

Just over a roll each, per week.

RosehipRuthie · 09/03/2020 22:49

I tend to buy "economy" rolls and they are shorter and much less dense than better quality ones so they don't last very long. About a dozen in a week I would say.

Mum2jenny · 09/03/2020 22:49

No. I’m not a loo roll troll, sorry Chewbacca. Just trying not to be short of the stuff with visitors coming.

There are four of us by the way. So three rolls a week each person.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/03/2020 22:50

Is this one of those threads where we're supposed to say, "I use a quarter of a sheet every third Tuesday, can't understand why people use more than me!"

It probably largely depends on how much food you're eating. We can make a small chicken feed all of us for 38 main meals, so that's why we use less bog roll Grin

I just saw an advert on TV for toilet roll (I forget the brand - good advert, eh?!). It seems quite a waste of their huge marketing budget considering that, with the empty shelves in the shops at the moment, most folk would gladly snap up second-hand Bronco with slivers of jagged bark still in it, if they could get their hands on it Grin

Everyone knows it’s two sheets per poo. One to wipe and one to polish.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 09/03/2020 22:51

IBS and OCD, so 1 a day usually.

ShatnersWig · 09/03/2020 22:53

Josh actually, without going all TMI, I still use loo roll for a wee, too.

Genevieva · 09/03/2020 22:53

Given half a chance, my daughter uses reels of the stuff. If she isn't making a plaster caste for a teddybear, she is trying to clear up the evidence that she has been using my makeup and created an absolute mess. I tend to buy everything in bulk when it is on special, so when it does finally run out it is a bit of a surprise because it felt like we had enough to last us the rest of our lives. I also forget that I had already bought something in bulk, so accidentally buy it again. It is quite normal for me to have 20 tins of tomatoes at the back of the cupboard. I am proud to say I have about 4 tins of tomatoes at the moment and am deliberately not panic buying because I don't want to be selfish.

DinoGreen · 09/03/2020 22:55

People are always one extreme or the other with loo roll. I’m a scruncher, probably use 6 sheets or so for a wee and at least double that for a poo, maybe more depending on how many wipes are needed. I can think of nothing worse than skimping on loo roll, remember having a conversation with a friend who uses a single sheet, folds it and wipes again with the same sheet, bleugh! Are my wees and poos more wet than some people’s?!?!

Anyway, there are 3 of us and we probably go through 2x 9 packs a month, so 4/5 a week? That’s with both of the adults working full time so doing a significant proportion of toileting outside the home! DH thinks I’m wasteful but I think he’s weird for not using enough.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/03/2020 22:55

occasionally we can skip buying them

How wonderful that such a normally mundane shopping task can bring you such merriment Grin

CarlottaValdez · 09/03/2020 22:55

I have honestly no idea. I’ve never monitored it!

LR33 · 09/03/2020 22:56

1 a week on average

2 adults here

Pjsandbaileys · 09/03/2020 22:58

About a roll per person per week

Lynda07 · 09/03/2020 23:12

I'm on my own but probably go through two a week - may be more but I don't count them. I always have a good stock so need for panic buying. What a strange topic! Most people probably don't know how many they use, they just notice when the supply is getting low.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/03/2020 23:13

I have honestly no idea. I’ve never monitored it!

How do you know how much to buy, though? You know how much bread, milk, cereal, veg you need to buy each week, don't you? Don't you add a certain amount of toilet roll to the regular shopping list? Or do you just get a truck-load delivered 'for the season' and then call them again once you can see daylight through the shed window? Grin

nickname302 · 09/03/2020 23:15

Is this the coronavirus edition of a competitive undereating thread? Competitive underwiping?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 23:16

Loads, one a day ,2 of us,lots of visitors. I don't really keep count.

TWO sheets for a poo though? Just two? Confused

JustBecauseItWorkedForYou · 09/03/2020 23:17

3 maybe 4 a week. 2 adults 1 teen.
Dd not trained yet tho.
However when dsd 8 here I reckon she eats it as we go thro over 1 maybe 1.5 a day.

Youcunnyfunt · 09/03/2020 23:20

Well, I live alone but I'm still using a pack of 12 (have about 5 rolls left!) that I bought in Nov ish?
Maybe one a week? I do work outside the house though. I also have a bum washer. Greatly reduces the need for so much loo roll! And so much cleaner.

Youcunnyfunt · 09/03/2020 23:24

FlamingoandJohn Grin haha!

In fairness my consumption is only so low because I'm out so much! And I tell thee, if you like having a squeaky clean bum, a bum washer is the way forward. Before I had one, I used to use easily a quarter of a roll for certain loo visits. With the washer, you might do a cursary wipe, then spray, spray a bit more, then wipe up, then wipe any water spray - totally clean. So I am totally not a poo troll thank you very much, it is just the power of bidets and bum washers!
