Loo rolls

How many loo rolls does a family use a week?
I’ve just had a discussion with a family member who gets through more than 1 a day. I thought that was totally over the top.
For comparison, we use around 2 a week, including visitors which we get most days.

I tend to buy loo rolls when we need them ie a 9 pack a month but how many should we try to keep as ‘backup’ stock so we don’t run out? That is, if there are any in the supermarkets!!

Usually around 3 a day.. 6 adults, one has inflammatory bowel disease and OCD... not a great combo!

(That's down from before DS2 was diagnosed.. before he had the correct medication he was pooing 20+ times a day poor guy!)

Currently down to 6 rolls so I need to find some tomorrow!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/03/2020 22:27

There are 6 of us. I currently only have 20 in the cupboard so I think I’ll tell the dc to use their sleeve when blowing their nose

Was I the only one who was horrified by this until reading the last four words?! Grin Not that snotty sleeves are a nice thing, but significantly less eeuuw than....

Chewbecca · 09/03/2020 22:30

I think you are using a tiny amount.

I would say 4 sheets for a wee and at least 20 for a poo.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/03/2020 22:31

I'm surprised to read most of the above figures. There are three of us, often two of us at home during the day, very 'active', shall we say, and we don't make any attempt to ration usage at all.

We buy the double-length cheapo 6-packs from Aldi or Lidl and probably use about one pack a month, if that.

Khione · 09/03/2020 22:33

I use about 5 a month.

One person, one a week - give or take a few sheets so 5 a month sounds about right.

I'm at home all day most of the time and use Nicki or similar so middle of the road quality price wise.

No panic buying but I usually buy packs of 24 which last me about 5 months - and I bought from Aldi - who had plenty - on Saturday.

  1. A roll a day- one has a digestive issue.
PepsiLola · 09/03/2020 22:34

We probably use a four pack a week maybe less but definitely not more. We only do a shop once a week and never seem to run out. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 young children).

Both adults working full time, kids both school age. Really were only in the house evenings and weekends.

PlumsGalore · 09/03/2020 22:34

So I would say three poos a week plus wee wipe dry for the females. I reckon one per person is more than sufficient.

Icantfind · 09/03/2020 22:34

I can't believe how much people are using.

We do use reusable clothes for nose blowing though, but 1 roll a day?

We do buy the thicker stuff so 2 sheets for a wee. 3 sheets per wipe for a poo, but sometimes multiple wipes are required!

Are people scrunching not folding?!

mimbleandlittlemy · 09/03/2020 22:34

Two/three a week - three adults. Have changed brand recently to a stronger bamboo brand rather than cheap supermarket paper and we get through far less now. Sold in boxes of 40 from Amazon and that will last us nearly 3 months.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 09/03/2020 22:35

I don't like having a wet hand. We both work from home and I have a young baby. I have nose allergies and digestive issues, the baby has reflux and CMPA, and we don't use tissues because loo roll is cheaper, so we're going through about 18 a week. When we buy Andrex that amount is reduced by 2/3.

Is this one of those threads where we're supposed to say, "I use a quarter of a sheet every third Tuesday, can't understand why people use more than me!" Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/03/2020 22:35

Does anybody else remember a thread from a few months ago about kitchen roll? IIRC, the OP was getting through about two rolls every day Shock

Slith · 09/03/2020 22:36

Just me - about one every 2 weeks.

Mum2jenny · 09/03/2020 22:36

Chewbacca I guess you must be using the loo roll I get at work which is rubbish. I can’t see why you’d need 4 sheets of normal Andrex for a wee or 20 for a poo. Imo that’s totally excessive utterly and totally.

TheGreatWave · 09/03/2020 22:37

I have never really counted, but going on what I get for holiday for a week - so a 4 pack, a spare provided plus what ever is on the holder just about does us for the week - family of 5.

theneighbourswindchime · 09/03/2020 22:39

Why on Earth are people lowering themselves to inform someone online how much loo roll they use???

It's none of anyone's business.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 09/03/2020 22:40

I think I roughly buy a nine pack about once a month to six weeks, just me and DH though, DS is still in nappies, we do have grandmas looking after him at our house twice a week but no noticeable impact on usage. I don't ration but did notice when I decided to buy cheap paper, that there's half as much on the roll and it's thin so we used more, so which brand you buy is another factor. One person's one roll might be another person's two but they're actually using the same amount of paper.

ShatnersWig · 09/03/2020 22:41

Astonished at most of these replies (excepting those with bowel issues). Single man here, it will take me 10-14 days to use up one loo roll. And my behind is perfectly clean!

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 09/03/2020 22:42

I have no idea how many sheets I use for each visit...

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 09/03/2020 22:42

Around 2-3 a day. Have some bowel issues in the family and our autistic DC is on medications to help with movement which can be quite messy, sorry Blush

megletthesecond · 09/03/2020 22:42

Three poos a week Confused.

Three a day more like.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 09/03/2020 22:44

@ShatnersWig you don't use paper for wees and don't have periods which require wiping though, if you got yourself on a sheldonesque
schedule which enabled you to avail yourself of work facilities you could probably get away with not buying any!

junecat · 09/03/2020 22:45

A four pack a week for the two of us and occasionally we can skip buying them so I guess around three a week on average

peonylane · 09/03/2020 22:45

I'm genuinely surprised at this thread. We are a family of 3 and I have Crohns and we get through 2 a week. I guess it also depends on how many toilets you have too! We have 5 in our house, so that's maybe why our consumption is lower as we divide our use of loo rolls over 5 rolls!

Chewbecca · 09/03/2020 22:47

Something really odd here. I also use andrex and can’t imagine how 1 sheet is sufficient for anything.

We have a new loo roll troll.
