Should I get a taxi to A&E

I have multiple gallstones and am awaiting gallbladder removal surgery.

Currently experiencing a horrid gallbladder attack. Been in pain since 22;00 but the tramadol is wearing off. Will admit it's not the worse attack I've ever had. Very very uncomfortable though.

Worried if I go in and take some more I won't be in so much pain and am wasting their time or the next load of tramadol will kick in and I'll feel alright again.

It's also my 30th birthday today.and DS dosn't sleep well without me here (bought him into our bed with me and DH earlyer because he's a general terrible sleeper)

YABU - stay home, take more tramadol. Woman up.

YANBU - get a taxi to a+e and pray they decidde to remove gallbladder tonight as a birthday present instead of waiting another 4-6minths on the waiting list.

I don’t think you are being unreasonable to want to get your gallbladder removed; however, I think in current climate you will go, wait, be given more painkillers. I would take the tramadol, stay home. Any signs of infection (such as fever, vomiting) then go, but for now. You have my sympathies I had gallstones for 2 years, but as I was young i was told my attacks were indigestion. Only when it became infected (at age 21) did I get diagnosed and have removed.

Hileni · 09/03/2020 02:48

Thanks sunshine, I think you're right.
You poor thing having it ignored. Mines been going in since last May but misdiagnosed twice.

I've ring 111 and waiting for a clinician to call me back.

You poor thing. I was the same nearly 20 years ago and went to A&E as I couldn’t keep painkillers down and the pain was excruciating.

I was admitted and was nil by mouth for four days while they tried to stop the attack and had morphine which was the only thing which helped alleviate the pain.
As soon as I was allowed to eat again it restarted and I ended up having it removed the following day.

I hope that you’re soon feeling better and that you can have a Happy Birthday Flowers

LangSpartacusCleg · 09/03/2020 03:08

A few years ago, my local trust had policy of removing if it was the 3rd (or 5th?) A&E presentation within 6 months. Can’t remember the exact details.

I would take a taxi to A&E.

(Probably not applicable to A&E but I have found I get processed more quickly if I wait for a while and then ask for an emesis bag. It has happened a couple of times and is probably a better alternative for everyone concerned than some poor person having to clean up vomit).

LangSpartacusCleg · 09/03/2020 03:09

PS - hope you feel better soon and Happy Birthday 💐

Skierrdery · 09/03/2020 03:17

They called you back yet?

Hileni · 09/03/2020 03:28

Not yet, but I'm expecting one soon because she said it would be high priority as they would need to rule out a heart attack or something like that.

I don’t think they’ll remove it tonight. I had to wait weeks until the inflammation had died down (and go on a miserable fat-free diet until then!) You have my sympathies. Gall stones are agony.

Hileni · 09/03/2020 03:42

Just heard back,he wants me to go to a&e as it's shooting to my shoulder so it may be infected. I'm actually a bit terrified because I have PTSD after a horrific birth and hospitals scare me. I'm freaking out a bit

OP posts:
GiveHerHellFromUs · 09/03/2020 03:47

I know it's scary but it's scarier to consider what would happen if it went untreated. You're doing the right thing by going. It'll be ok x

Hileni · 09/03/2020 04:11

Thanks @Giveherhell, I'm in the taxi now.

Hope you’re ok happy birthday xx

Pixxie7 · 09/03/2020 04:23

It sounds as if your gall bladder is inflamed so I doubt they will take it out today anyway. I would take some more tramadol.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/03/2020 04:33

Feel bad saying this but happy birthday 🥺💕 atb let us know what happens x

Shoveoff · 09/03/2020 04:35

Good luck. You’re doing the right thing. And they have fabulous drugs too. I had mine out and felt so much better for it.

eaglejulesk · 09/03/2020 04:47

Good luck - and Happy Birthday (even though it isn't really!) Flowers Flowers

Toybox88 · 09/03/2020 04:48

Hope you're doing ok

Hileni · 09/03/2020 04:59

Hi, been admitted and on a trolly, it was very rarely quiet in a+e this morning! The nurse said it was very unusual so I've been triaged super quick. They've popd a cannula in and.im waiting for some.pain relief. I can't stop crying and I'm not sure whether it's because I'm so scared or because if the pain.

OhTheRoses · 09/03/2020 05:13

Oh you poor, poor thing. How awful that people are left in preventable pain for so long. Good luck and I hope they do remove it if they can. May I suggest you refuse to leave without seeing the consultant.

LangSpartacusCleg · 09/03/2020 05:53

I’m glad you are at the hospital and I hoe that this means that your gall bladder op will be bumped up.

I completely understand your tears. Fear and pain can be hard to differentiate when you are in hospital. Don’t feel bad about it.

You are going to feel so much better when the painkillers kick in and you are settled on a ward. You will get through this and I’ve is going to be so much better when you are gallbladder-less! 💐

Frownette · 09/03/2020 05:56

I hope the pain relief works quickly and happy birthday :)

MinesaPinotPlease · 09/03/2020 06:05

So sorry that this is how you are spending your birthday :(

Hope the pain relief helps and they can solve this for you.

Aridane · 09/03/2020 06:10

@hopefulhalf she's in a lot of pain.

You don't have it, do you? It's not your decision anyway. 111 told her to go.

Don't kick a woman when she's down.
