Should I get a taxi to A&E

I have multiple gallstones and am awaiting gallbladder removal surgery.

Currently experiencing a horrid gallbladder attack. Been in pain since 22;00 but the tramadol is wearing off. Will admit it's not the worse attack I've ever had. Very very uncomfortable though.

Worried if I go in and take some more I won't be in so much pain and am wasting their time or the next load of tramadol will kick in and I'll feel alright again.

It's also my 30th birthday today.and DS dosn't sleep well without me here (bought him into our bed with me and DH earlyer because he's a general terrible sleeper)

YABU - stay home, take more tramadol. Woman up.

YANBU - get a taxi to a+e and pray they decidde to remove gallbladder tonight as a birthday present instead of waiting another 4-6minths on the waiting list.

I think you have absolutely done the right thing. My Dh had a septic gallbladder and all he experienced was pain, no temperature until he was in a bad way.... He had a week in Intensive care and several weeks in hospital as he tried to get through the pain before going in...

Hope you are ok?

Ostagazuzulum · 09/03/2020 06:23

Give it a rest hopefulhalf Hmm I work as emergency services so I'd be first one to say don't waste A&E's time but OP is in pain. She needs proper pain relief which she hasn't got and if you read full thread you'll see she's had different symptoms that needed to be checked.
I've had similar thing three times now where tremadol hasn't help and it's hurt so much that I've vomited with pain. You couldn't just sit there in pain indefinitely. What if it wasn't gallstones and ended up as an urgent emergency?? By going to hospital at this time, she's potentially avoided having to use an ambulance or more medical staff to treat her. OP you did right thing going to A&E. hope you get on ok and the pain relief kicks in soon x

Jenasaurus · 09/03/2020 06:28

Well said Ostagazuzulum. I also work for emergency services and would say the same

Beautiful3 · 09/03/2020 06:50

You poor thing. Happy birthday. I hope they get it sorted and you feel better soon.

SunshineCake · 09/03/2020 06:55

Happy birthday

How are you?

JudyCoolibar · 09/03/2020 07:03

@hopefulhalf, which bit of "Just heard back, he wants me to go to a&e as it's shooting to my shoulder so it may be infected" didn't you understand?

PG2018 · 09/03/2020 07:03

Hope your ok Thanks

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/03/2020 07:12

I think getting a taxi to A&E in the middle of the night to wait with people who may or may not have Covid-19 to demand a non emergency operation from overstreched hospital staff is an excellent idea-crack on.

You've never had gallstones then and obviously don't understand how serious they can be. I left it and ended up with pancreatitis so I'm glad the OP has gone to hospital

Hileni · 09/03/2020 07:17

Hiya, had some pain relief through the cannula. I think it was paracetamol? and a doctor has given me a prod about. The pain is still there but it's no where near as intense. Waiting back for the bloods.

Thanks so much for your lovely messages. Im quite frightened and teary here with all the sounds and the smell of hospital so it's helped to ground me with your messages.

You poor thing. I hope the pain relief has kicked in and you are having a nap.

Happy birthday. I hope your day gets better!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/03/2020 07:18

hopefulhalf it doesn't matter what YOU think ,the medical professionals deemed it appropriate to admit her and give her a cannula so clearly not time wasting.

OP feel better soon x

@hopefulhalf, which bit of "Just heard back, he wants me to go to a&e as it's shooting to my shoulder so it may be infected" didn't you understand

I also thought "I've been admitted" was a bit of a give away that it was a good idea.

SoupDragon · 09/03/2020 07:21

Happy birthday OP ! I hope you get a relief from this.

RandomWok · 09/03/2020 07:21

Cross post.

Finger crossed for a resolution for you.

Wineislifex · 09/03/2020 07:22

Hope you’re feeling better OP! You’ll need blood and uss to check for cholecystitis/pancretitis. Our trust doesn’t operate on gallbladders during a flare up as the operation is more complex with a higher risk of complications. Have you tried buscopan for analgesia? A lot of people find it helpful as it’s an anti spasmodic.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 09/03/2020 07:24

Hand hold over here Heleni, really hope they get you sorted soon one way or the other so you can get home.

Also Happy Birthday! FlowersCake

Etinox · 09/03/2020 07:26

Happy Birthday @Hileni
You made the right decision Flowers

Sertchgi123 · 09/03/2020 07:27

I’ve had gall stones so I feel your pain. I hope you get sorted quickly. Happy Birthday.

potter5 · 09/03/2020 07:28

Hi OP, hope you are feeling a little better now after receiving pain relief. I too suffered from gall bladder pain for many months and hospitalised for a week.

I would say that the pain is on a parallel with giving birth so know how you feel. Luckily I had my gall bladder out on 4th Feb once the infection and inflammation of the gall bladder had gone down.

Still bit tender after the op but well worth it!

Sending you Flowers for your birthday.

PineappleDanish · 09/03/2020 07:28

Hope you're feeling better this morning. I had a gallstone attack when my oldest was three weeks old and it's far, far worse than labour.

BaruFisher · 09/03/2020 07:29

Best of luck.
I had exactly the same last May. Ended up with cholecystitis and on IV antibiotics for a week.
They wouldn’t operate until the inflammation had died down as that can cause complications so I had the op 8 weeks later.

Don’t worry OP you’re in the right place and they’ll get the pain under control then get you back to rights Flowers

Frownette · 09/03/2020 07:31

OP must be shattered, she's been up all night.

Theresnobslikeshowb · 09/03/2020 07:33

Good job someone on here isn’t a Dr!! Happy Birthday OP and hope you are at least pain free!!

Orangeblossom78 · 09/03/2020 07:38

Hope you get it sorted soon, our hospital now has an 'ambulatory' day surgery thing for such problems to stop people having to wait, fingers crossed you get it done and home soon

Kaykay066 · 09/03/2020 07:40

@hopefulhalf that’s what a&e is for!! I’ve been twice with kidney stones and was in excruciating pain and discomfort(& Had a very newborn baby) I’ve never had gall stones but if you can’t manage the pain at home what is it you think op should’ve done sat in pain at home?....

Glad you’re feeling better op hope they get some resolution for you re the op, it’s often beneficial to do it sooner if you’re having bad flare ups whilst waiting, my friend was on waiting list but was rushed in and had an emergency op last year so hope it happens soon for you (the op not the pain etc)
