Should I get a taxi to A&E

I have multiple gallstones and am awaiting gallbladder removal surgery.

Currently experiencing a horrid gallbladder attack. Been in pain since 22;00 but the tramadol is wearing off. Will admit it's not the worse attack I've ever had. Very very uncomfortable though.

Worried if I go in and take some more I won't be in so much pain and am wasting their time or the next load of tramadol will kick in and I'll feel alright again.

It's also my 30th birthday today.and DS dosn't sleep well without me here (bought him into our bed with me and DH earlyer because he's a general terrible sleeper)

YABU - stay home, take more tramadol. Woman up.

YANBU - get a taxi to a+e and pray they decidde to remove gallbladder tonight as a birthday present instead of waiting another 4-6minths on the waiting list.

Great news, OP! My life changed very significantly for the better when I was able to put my gallstones behind me :) I'm sure yours will too, and you'll be up and about again before you know it, so enjoy lounging about while you can :)

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 09/03/2020 14:07

I'm just pleased you're contemplating a taxi to the hospital because the number of entitleds on my social media who seemingly will do anything but pay their own way to a hospital (posting statuses begging for lifts, moaning that they've been refused an ambulance)

Frownette · 09/03/2020 14:15

YAYYYYYY!!!

These gallstones sound horrific from what everyone has posted. Ok so op, rest tonight, reunited with family tomorrow for belated birthday GlitterballGlitterballGlitterball

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 09/03/2020 14:18

Great news op! Really hope you’re pain (and gallbladder!) free soon. Also, happy birthday 🥳 I’m sure you’ll be able to have a lovely celebration once you’re home. x

Bloodybridget · 09/03/2020 14:22

Hileni I'm so glad you're having the op today, hope it all goes well. I reckon afterwards you'll just feel so relieved, you won't mind too much being in hospital, and with any luck you won't have to stay in long. Take care and happy birthday!

Lweji · 09/03/2020 14:37

I'm just pleased you're contemplating a taxi to the hospital
I think the OP should cancel the taxi, instead. Wink

Splitsunrise · 09/03/2020 14:38

Fantastic about the op! And the window Grin Really hope it goes wel

fudgesmummy · 09/03/2020 14:38

That’s great news, and the best birthday present possible!
As another poster said, this is everyday stuff for the staff, they do this every day. Don’t be afraid to ask for reassurance.

bbcessex · 09/03/2020 14:40

Brilliant - so pleased, OP. Away with that pain - top news.

pugtato · 09/03/2020 14:58

Happy Birthday OP! I had gallstones when I was younger and they are horrendous. I know it's not great because it's your birthday but likely it'll be the best present because the relief will be huge! And you'll be able to enjoy some birthday cake in a few days without pain :) Hope you feel better soon!

kateandme · 09/03/2020 15:35

what a birthday present.ive been following this since you were frightened this morning op and im so glad you were brave and went for it.
im so sorry youve been in pain.
remember remember this is NOT LIKE LAST TIME.keep seperating them out.our bodies and minds hold on to those fear response so you need to make new pathways.the other hospital visit was bad it doesnt mean this one is.and just look at the differecne already.becasue this is already ten times better because 1. your getting the op today which means less pain for you and not weeks/months of waiting. 2 you have all of us. yay!
keep coming for support.
be gentle with yourself and remember all the breathing techniques people have helped with on here.
youve got 6 pages of people who care for you now op.you can do this.

longtimelurkerhelen · 09/03/2020 15:45

That's great. Also you don't have to dread waiting for the appointment, that's a lot of anxiety saved. Grin

You will be home tomorrow and eating large slices of cake before you know it.

KilljoysDutch · 09/03/2020 16:00

Happy Birthday Hileni Glad you're getting your op today! At least you'll be a little lighter in your thirtieth year.

notbeingfunnybut · 09/03/2020 16:08

Gallstones are the worst!!! I had jaundice when a stone got stuck and they took mine out as an emergency case like you as it was effecting my liver function.
I was home the next day, with a two year old and I was up about hoovering a couple of days later, back to work just over a week later, no problems since. So getting yours out will be the best birthday present ever!!! The relief of being able to eat what you want and not be nervous is amazing!

dappledsunshine · 09/03/2020 16:12

Good news Hileni! Hope you're sound asleep now and pain free from now on Thanks

Frownette · 09/03/2020 16:12

What do they do to your eating?

neversleepagain · 09/03/2020 16:17

It is horrific pain. I had 2 A&E admissions 3 weeks after giving birth to my twins. The second was so bad I was vomitting violently and drenched in sweat, my hair was soaked with sweat. They felt very sorry for me in A&E and sent me home with a date scheduled for 24 hours later.

It is a life changer having it removed OP.

SimplySteveRedux · 09/03/2020 16:19

how did you get this diagnosed? I’ve had four attacks since my cholecystectomy of what I can only describe as “gallbladder attacks” but obviously that’s not possible, and I’ve had so many tests but no one has even mentioned this.

@gingersausage being a pain in the arse with A&E trips, then lead to an MRI and Endoscopic Ultrasound showing a striated common bile duct, and surgical adhesions. It wasn't easy and it's only due to 50+ A&E visits over 18 months/two years I'm now prescribed tramadol, modified-release Oxycodone tablets and immediate release Oxycodone liquid.

SimplySteveRedux · 09/03/2020 16:19

Feel free to pm if you need help with this, or somewhere to rant @gingersausage

Sexnotgender · 09/03/2020 16:19

Hope it’s all gone well!

And happy birthday Flowers

MinesaPinotPlease · 09/03/2020 17:11

Hope the op goes Well and it is the start of a pain free life for you (once you are over the op of course).

I spent a birthday in hospital having an op. It is a weird experience and I had a weep too but hopefully you can make up for it next year.

LakieLady · 09/03/2020 17:26

Hope it's all gone well, OP, and that you're soon able to enjoy a belated birthday celebration.

HighNetGirth · 09/03/2020 17:30

Got you a very special pin-up for your birthday, Hileni. Try not to swoon when you open it...

Happy Birthday Heleni, I do hope your surgery went well and you have a restful night.

Fedupofdoingit · 09/03/2020 18:06

@Hileni apologies op I have misjudged you. I thought that you were one of these people who go to A&E and attention seek!
Recently have had several acquaintances (one of whom has been in 3 times in 3 weeks, after drinking sessions, sending running commentary on Facebook and selfies of her on a trolley and her 4 or 5 friends with her, followed by laughing emojis) misusing the hard pressed hospital A&E.
No excuse though, I was wrong, so sorry again! Hope you have a lovely belated birthday when you get home. 💐
