Has anyone actually been outed?

Lots of people name change when posting I assume for the fear of people they know reading the story. However, alot are specific scenarios that surely people who knew the situation would instantly twig anyway.
There have been loads of times I want to post something and then chicken out incase this happens and I have absolutely no idea if anyone i know uses mumsnet.

Has it ever happened to anyone?

I've been thinking the same and how do you know they are people you know? And how do you see previous posts/threads?

It honestly can be very obvious mumalu eg if you post on a cat litter thread saying you are a vet, have two teen dds (in teenagers) and are in a minority faith and also post about that. AND then on top of that you tell an anecdote about a certain hotel you just came back from in France...then there probably is only one person fitting that description!

@Mlou32 to change username, go to settings. Overwrite your current name with the new one, enter your password, then click Save. (If you get an error, it's probably because the new name is already taken, so pick another and keep trying).

@Fortyquinn to search previous posts, go to Advanced Search (or select the magnifying glass if you're using the phone app) and enter the username in the field labelled "And/or were posted by (username)".

Alternatively you can just Google the words Mumsnet Fortyquinn or whatever other name you want to search.

I've been spotted twice by the same close friend!

Not on here but I recognised a couple of people I know in another well known baby forum if similar name.
One because she used her own unusual name as part of her username and detailed an affair that most people already suspected. I said nothing of course.
Another was a mum when my df was back in nursery slagging off her unusual ‘ridiculous’ name and me for choosing it in a really horrible way . Obv seeing her name triggered a curiosity so I did some digging and she’dmentioned her own child’s name in one of her posts so I knew immediately who it was. Of course I didn’t say anything but totally ignored her from then on and didn’t invite her to any social events.. so wonder if she figured it out.
