What 3 days would you pick to work part time?

I'm leaning towards Mon, Tue & Wed, as it would be nice to keep the weekend long.

But would it be better to break it up, have a day off midweek?

What pattern do you do if you are part time?

I do Wed to Friday 8-4pm

Wandastartup · 05/03/2020 20:47

I didn’t like having Monday off as it still felt like Monday even if I wasn’t going to work( Sunday night blues) & then I had it again on Monday before going in on Tuesday. I’m not very good at split days off for the same reason. I finish for the week on Thursday lunchtime & I really like having Thursday afternoon & Friday off.

B1rdinthebush · 05/03/2020 20:47

I do Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. This means I'm never out of the office for more than one work day, which would be an issue with my role.

ivegotthisyeah · 05/03/2020 20:48

I do wed thur Friday. Live it Mondays job day shopping etc, better off as in UK and most bank holidays fall on a Monday. I like working Fridays weirdly more relaxed dress down day everyone in weekend mode then four straight days off

pumpkinbump · 05/03/2020 20:49

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Oblomov20 · 05/03/2020 20:49

Agree with all the other posters: Tuesday-Thursday.

I've never had a choice: I've done mon, wed, thurs, for the last 15 years.

Loved it.

FireandFury · 05/03/2020 20:50

Tues- Thurs. I sometimes work those days and having a really lovely long weekend is amazing.

Stripeyshirts2450 · 05/03/2020 20:51

Work Monday and Friday because then you'll get the bank holidays, otherwise you'll lose them.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 05/03/2020 20:52

I do Monday Wednesday and Friday. If I have shorty day at work then tomorrow is always my day off and vice versa. Also means I get all the bank holidays off.

MamaFlintstone · 05/03/2020 20:52

My choice for 3 days would be Wed-Fri. Friday just tends to be a more chilled out day in my job, it would be a waste using that as one of my days off.

However I work 4 days, so have Wednesdays off so I only ever have to do 2 days in a row.

Wibblewobble99 · 05/03/2020 20:58

Depends on your childcare arrangements. Our nursery is empty Monday’s and Fridays in comparison to the rest of the week when there are waiting lists for those days

dementedpixie · 05/03/2020 20:58

No you dont. Bank holidays are added pro rata into your holiday entitlement. If you work monday and friday then you need to use holiday entitlement to take those days off. If you dont work them you still get the same amount of holidays but you have more choice about when to take them

LazyFace · 05/03/2020 21:01

I'd definitely work on Friday. There's so much less traffic going into London, most people must wfh on Friday or be off. Shorter commute wins.

whatareyoucooking · 05/03/2020 21:02

I work Monday Thursday Friday. It's magic.
Wake up on Monday and think ahhh we'll only one day at work then another weekend Grin

EmmaBridgewater20 · 05/03/2020 21:04

I’ve done done the following patterns;

Tue, Weds, Thurs - I don’t like this as no matter what (I did this for 2 yrs) Sunday always feels like a Sunday and I’d still get that sad Sunday feel. Work wise I always felt really behind coming in on a Tues especially as we were a 7 days a wk bus so someone could have sent an email Sat and I wouldn’t get to it until Tues mid morning.

Monday, Weds, Thurs - quite like this as you get that real Friday feeling but on the Tues I felt like much of the day was spent thinking about and getting ready for wk the next day

Currently doing Mon, Tue, Weds - feels weird finishing on Weds and I don’t ever get ‘that Friday feeling’ but I definitely love having the block of 4 days off, and I feel more productive at wk being in 3 days straight. I don’t feel like I’m constantly breaking off. Plus if you want to go away for a long wknd it’s often cheaper to go Thurs/Fri night rather than Fri/Sat

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 05/03/2020 21:05

I do weds-friday

Crikeyblimey · 05/03/2020 21:07

Someone may have said this but always recommend back end of the week to work. There’s an odd thing happens with bank holidays. If a bank holiday is a non-working day for you, you get half a day back. If it is a working day, you owe half a day!
Took me years to figure it out but that’s how it usually works. So as most bank holidays are Mondays, don’t work Mondays.

Superlooper · 05/03/2020 21:07

I love Mon, Tues, Fri. I get my own mid week weekend to myself Grin The actually weekends are so busy.

meow1989 · 05/03/2020 21:09

I do monday, thursday, friday, chosen mostly because it fits around my team and cover. But I really like it. I'm only ever 2 days away from 2 days off at most. Similarly I had a wednesday off when I worked 4 days a week.

Waveysnail · 05/03/2020 21:09

Wed, thur, fri - feels like more of a break having two week days in a row off

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/03/2020 21:11

I’m going back Monday to Wednesday in a couple of months. Monday is the busiest day, all the team meetings etc and I didn’t want to feel I was starting each week on the back foot.

Confused by the talk of using leave for bank holidays which I’m not sure applies at my work and I hadn’t even considered it.

Heihei · 05/03/2020 21:11

I did Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday for a few years and that was amazing. Long weekend every weekend and no Sunday night blues!

midnightstar66 · 05/03/2020 21:13

Tuesday - Thursday would be amazing, never mind a day in between, get it done in one with a nice long weekend. A day to relax before the kids are off and a day to sort after the weekend when they are at school. Sounds like heaven

dementedpixie · 05/03/2020 21:13

If a bank holiday is a non-working day for you, you get half a day back. If it is a working day, you owe half a day!

This isnt quite true. When you are given holiday entitlement it includes bank holidays (pro rata for part timers). If Monday is a usual working day and you are off on a bank holiday then that day comes out of your entitlement. If you dont work Monday then it doesnt and you can use that holiday day at a different time.

TroysMammy · 05/03/2020 21:14

I work Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday. Work is busier at the beginning of the week which I now thankfully miss.
