What 3 days would you pick to work part time?

I'm leaning towards Mon, Tue & Wed, as it would be nice to keep the weekend long.

But would it be better to break it up, have a day off midweek?

What pattern do you do if you are part time?

I did Tue, Wed, Fri for a while. Sounds odd but was great-no mad stress to get things finished on Wed because I knew I was in again Fri, but by time it was Fri everyone was relaxed and happy and just winding down for the weekend. Had to change to Tue, Wed, Thurs, lovely in a way for the long weekends and I properly switch off from work, but more intense and busy when I am there.

ALadyofLetters · 05/03/2020 20:25

Do Mon, Tues, Thurs.

Mondays end up as a non day fretting about work. I’ve done various combinations over the years due to nursery availability and the above is definitely the best!

Maryann1975 · 05/03/2020 20:26

I do 4 days with a Friday off currently. If I could drop another day I’d struggle to choose which day to loose tbh. I imagine at the moment, (dc 13,11,9) it would be better to have a Tuesday or Wednesday off so I had time mid week not to be stressed and rushed because of work. So, I’d do Monday, Wednesday, Thursday.

But having a long weekend and working Tuesday-Thursday each week would be great in the holidays or if I had weekend plans.

Tfoot75 · 05/03/2020 20:31

I used to work Tues-Thurs. Ideal for Bank Holiday entitlement - I got 5 days (3/5 of 8) extra holiday to use whenever so equivalent of almost 2 extra weeks.

ivykaty44 · 05/03/2020 20:32

I did Tuesday Wednesday Thursday

Never had Sunday night blues
Most teacher training days are Monday and Friday
Bank holidays are mostly also Mondays and Fridays, so holidays aren’t forced to be these days
You still get a long weekend

Cillmantain · 05/03/2020 20:32

Dont do Mondays due to annual leave requirement with public holidays.
I work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.
I find better continuity working 3 together.
Friday is a great day to have off.

southernbelles · 05/03/2020 20:33

I remember searching this a couple of years ago when I was putting in my flexible working request! I ended up going for Tuesday-Thursday & I LOVE it, wouldn't have it any other way! You still get the long weekend feeling, you start the week after everyone else & finish it before too.

Devlesko · 05/03/2020 20:34

Tues, wed, thurs of course. Think of the long weekends you could have.

PinkiOcelot · 05/03/2020 20:34

When I worked part time I did Tues to Thurs. it was great. Lovely no weekend every week. Plus no taking hours off holiday total for bank holidays.

PinkiOcelot · 05/03/2020 20:34

Lovely long weekend!!

fedup21 · 05/03/2020 20:35

Tues, wed, Thursday

Gillian1980 · 05/03/2020 20:36

I used to do mon-wed.

I’m going back soon tues-thur. feels nice knowing it’s a long weekend every week.

I told my manager I didn’t mind which days I worked but that I’d prefer consecutive days.

AbsentmindedWoman · 05/03/2020 20:38

Oh I hadn't even considered Tue, Wed, Thur - I don't know why! That is appealing to me now too!

No kids to consider. Job is not fast paced, so I don't think my inbox will blow up if it is left unsupervised for four days at a stretch..

I'm in the US not UK so don't think the stuff about bank holidays applies. It is quite confusing because the system is very different over here - originally I thought I'd be self employed but the contract gives me some sick days, so apparently I will be an employee. But have no paid holiday, I simply won't get paid on public holidays or any days I book off.

Tuesday-Thursday.

Darbs76 · 05/03/2020 20:39

I’ve done a mix over the years:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

I did prefer Tue - Thursday so I had a long weekend. I am full time now but consolidated - so I have Monday as NWD (do 2-3hrs late afternoon), and have Wednesday working at home, so I’m still only in the office 3 days hence I upped my hours again. What I find I like is having Monday off as I like to clean after the weekend when kids are back to school, and I do like a midweek rest, whether that’s working at home or day off.

So yep Tuesday - Thursday I say

stoplickingthetelly · 05/03/2020 20:40

I do Tue, Wed, Thu this year (teacher). It’s nice having a long weekend, but I feel like I miss a lot of important work stuff being off on Mondays. I actually preferred working Mon, Wed, Thu.

megletthesecond · 05/03/2020 20:41

I do Tues/ weds / thurs.
On Monday's I deal with the mess from the weekend and do my errands. On Fridays I try and straighten up the house and do shopping.

MitziK · 05/03/2020 20:41

I did Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

It was an absolute joy to work one day, have a day off, then two days and a long weekend. I would have preferred in some ways to get it all out of the way in one go, but this worked out brilliantly (and being rather vacuous in those dim and distant days, I rather liked having Tuesdays and Fridays off for gym classes/creche and all the hairdressers and salons being open)

Divebar · 05/03/2020 20:41

I did M - W for about three years. In my job lots of meetings happened on a Monday and it would have been massively inconvenient for everyone if I wasn’t in.

SparkleM · 05/03/2020 20:41

Mon, Wednesday, Thursday here. No Sunday night work stress as only work Monday then day off. By the time I go back on Wednesday I know tomorrow is my last day of the week. Then three days off before it starts again.

Darbs76 · 05/03/2020 20:41

Also to add I am enjoying working a Friday again, everyone is in a good mood as it’s the weekend and also it’s generally meeting free, and so I get more done. If I do need to have a meeting I can get a room. So maybe go for Tuesday, wed and Friday, or Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Bear in mind what a PP said about getting the bank holiday adjustment so extra leave to use another time if you don’t work on a Monday normally.

nameymcnamechangeagain · 05/03/2020 20:42

Tuesday Wednesday Thursday allllllll the way!

nancyjuice7 · 05/03/2020 20:42

1st Tue/Wed/Thr - nice long weekend

2nd Wed/Thru/Fri - Fridays are relaxed at work so you've only got 2 days of hardcore work in my eyes

3rd Mon/Tue/Wed - Monday's are often bank holidays but Monday's are worse for traffic.

If it was four days I'd have Wednesday off

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 05/03/2020 20:43

I'm on mat leave from an office job but have requested Mon, Weds & Thurs. Thought it would be nice to have a break in between and DD can have a break from nursery and a longer weekend as well!

halfsoaked · 05/03/2020 20:44

Mon-Wed. I wouldn't recommend Mon-Tue and then Friday.
