What 3 days would you pick to work part time?

I'm leaning towards Mon, Tue & Wed, as it would be nice to keep the weekend long.

But would it be better to break it up, have a day off midweek?

What pattern do you do if you are part time?

I would pick either Tues, Weds, Thurs or Weds, Thurs, Fri as I find everyone is in a better mood on Friday! I’d most certainly avoid Monday though!!

I currently do wed-fri, but holding out for something to come up mon-Wed as you benefit from the bank holidays 👍

MillyMollyMooMum · 05/03/2020 22:08

I work Mon-Wed, but that's because on my non-work days I trade horseracing, and Thurs and Fri are generally the better days for that. (Swapped around next week for Cheltenham though!)

However if it wasn't for the trading I'd work Tues-Thurs. I like having a day off to myself, weekend with family, then day off again.

TroysMammy · 05/03/2020 22:08

DementedPixie I work 25 hours a week which is 5 1/2 hours on a Wednesday afternoon and 9 3/4 hours each Thursday and Friday. My colleague works 25 1/4 hours a week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning . We both get 17 days holidays including Bank Holidays in that, so it's 5 weeks and 2 days off. We get paid per hour. Full time colleague works 40 hours a week and gets 20 days holiday and 8 days Bank Holiday.

peachgreen · 05/03/2020 22:11

I do Mon - Wed - Fri which is unusual but works so well for me. I never feel like I'm catching up, I never miss anything important, DD doesn't have to do 2 days in a row at nursery and no matter how tough a day is I always know the next day will be different!

Confusedasusual78 · 05/03/2020 22:12

I used to teach three days and chose Tues, Wed, Thurs. Monday morning was definitely the one I wanted to avoid, but in hindsight I would possibly choose Friday if I was doing that again as everyone’s generally in a good mood and I sometimes actually missed that ‘Friday feeling’ when I was just at home or food shopping or whatever.

Snuffkindle · 05/03/2020 22:14

I used to do Monday, Thursday, Friday. It was so good,.like having two weekends. And Thursday, Friday are lovely wind down days to work :-)

Hadenoughofitall441 · 05/03/2020 22:14

Tuesday, weds, thurs would be my pick

DorisDances · 05/03/2020 22:16

Mon, Tues and Thurs definitely!

motortroll · 05/03/2020 22:16

Tues weds third is great as you then have mon and fri as the most common kids inset days (if you have kids!) or easier for long weekends away.

But most recently I had mom, tues, fri which I loved as I effectively had 2 weekends!! But it was then tricky for me personally as I have Girlguiding commitments thurs and fri so made planning a bit frantic midweek. Plus my husband was annoyed we couldn't go somewhere early on a Friday afternoon with the caravan.

Now I only work weds! By midweek I'm gagging for some company lol

You dont, you lose out

ScatteredMama82 · 05/03/2020 22:20

A question about bank holidays. I used to work mon-thu. At the request of my boss I swapped to Tue-Fri. I've now realised that I will lose out on public holidays. Should that be accounted for by giving me more annual leave?

dementedpixie · 05/03/2020 22:20

@TroysMammy as full timers get 28 days holiday they get the statutory minimum of 5.6 weeks (5.6x5days = 28).

You are entitled to 5.6× 25hrs = 140hours.
You shouldn't get it in days as your hours are not the same each day.

Your colleague should get 5.6 x 25.25 = 141.4 hours

beethebee · 05/03/2020 22:21

Ooh in my dream world I’d only work Tues-Thurs.

PixieDustt · 05/03/2020 22:21

My work hours have changed as used to be FT now PT tues, weds, thurs.

Notlong20 · 05/03/2020 22:22

Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Nice to break the 3 days up. Always get a 3 day weekend and Friday is the best day to work because everyone switches to weekend mode Grin

dementedpixie · 05/03/2020 22:22

@ScatteredMama82 you should get the bank holidays accounted for pro rata in your annual leave.

tempnamechange98765 · 05/03/2020 22:23

I currently work Tues-Thurs and it's heaven.

Don't understand what people are saying about having to use leave for Monday's if it's a bank holiday? Monday is one of my non working days and I accrue they bank holidays in flexi time / annual leave pro rata. Everyone is entitled to bank holidays pro rata whatever hours they work, so if your employers not doing this, they're breaking the law. Look it up.

Di11y · 05/03/2020 22:25

definitely do 3 in a row, I found it hard to switch off work and off kids between the 2.

Queenest · 05/03/2020 22:25

A lot of bank hols fall on a Monday and if you don’t usually work those days you’ll get them back in addition to your leave.

I agree Tuesday to Thursday is the best. Followed closely by Monday to Wednesday.

Minimum annual leave is 28 days. If you are off on a bank holiday it is deducted from that figure. If you are part time and work on a monday then your pro rata bank holidays may not cover all the bank holiday days e.g. pro rata days for BH are 5 but you need to take 8 off as the business is closed - you then need to use some of your other annual leave to cover those days

Thecazelets · 05/03/2020 22:32

I do Wed-Fri because I used to get terrible Sunday night blues/work dread. It has transformed my life. I get a long weekend every week and I don't mind working Fridays as the traffic is better and everyone at work is a bit cheerier due to that Friday feeling...

bruffin · 05/03/2020 22:32

Tempname
You get BH prorata . If you work 3/5 of a week you get 3/5 of 8 days. So on a bh you are entitled to 3/5 of a day off.
If it's not your normal working day then you accrue it in lieu.
If it's a normal working day you are taking a whole day off but only entitled to 3/5 of that day , so the remaining 2/5 of the day has to come out of your normal prorata holiday.
