What 3 days would you pick to work part time?

I'm leaning towards Mon, Tue & Wed, as it would be nice to keep the weekend long.

But would it be better to break it up, have a day off midweek?

What pattern do you do if you are part time?

Deffo Tuesday to Thursday.

Harls1969 · 06/03/2020 22:32

Oh I fantasise about this a lot! When DD was tiny, I worked Wed-Fri which was lovely because everyone was counting down to the weekend by Wednesday! But Tues - Thurs would also be nice. Mon - Wed would also work! Basically I'd just really like to go down to 3 days

Idontcareboutthestateofmyhair · 06/03/2020 22:34

I do Monday, Wednesday, Friday.. love the 3 day weekend and find I'm much more happier to go to work now on a Monday and actually look forward to it, especially being off on a Tuesday. Plus works in well with Monday bank holidays )

Bella2020 · 06/03/2020 23:32

I used to work Tuesday to Friday, before I had to give up. It was helpful healthwise but, if I could have afforded 3 days, I'd like to have done Monday, Wednesday & Friday, so I'd never have two work days in a row.
Dont think my employer would have liked it, though! Lol.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/03/2020 23:41

The OP is in the US and says she won't get paid for bank holidays

and won't get paid for any other days off except sick leave

  • OP do you get any paid holiday, btw ?

Consecutive days are best, imo, to give a 4-day weekend:
Mon-Wed or Tue-Thur
depending on what days off are best for things to do

Pashola · 07/03/2020 00:05

I didn't get a choice in my job but I work Monday, Thursday and Friday and at first I didn't like it (as I hate working Fridays) but slowly starting to enjoy it as it means I get two 'weekends' my normal Saturday/Sunday and also a mid week one.

Also public holidays in Australia are paid (not from annual leave) and most of them fall on a Monday so I get a few extra long weekends off then!

nosleepp · 07/03/2020 00:07

Tuesday-Thursday

bruffin · 07/03/2020 07:34

Also public holidays in Australia are paid
All public holidays in UK are paid, it's part of the minimum holiday requirement of 28 days which are prorata if you work p/t.

Frazzled2207 · 07/03/2020 07:46

I work ties-thurs.
i love personally not having sunday night blues on Sunday!

MsRinky · 07/03/2020 09:36

Interesting, I currently work Tue/Wed/Thu, but am giving up my Friday off to accommodate a new staff member's preferred pattern. I am thinking of giving Mon/Wed/Fri a go - a normal weekend plus only ever working one day at a time is quite appealing to me.

Just beware that Monday is a strange day when you are part time.
You generally don’t get all the bank holidays paid as you are only part time and they are pro rota.
If your workplace is closed then you have to use some of your annual leave to cover the bank holidays you aren’t entitled to.
I can’t remember the exact numbers but I’m sure I lost something like 3/4 days of my annual leave to bank holiday Mondays. That was on top of my already reduced (to reflect part time hours) annual leave.

AJTommo · 07/03/2020 10:38

I work Tues Weds & Thursday nights & its fab!

Nearly47 · 07/03/2020 11:49

I used to work Monday Wednesday and Friday. It was great. Never tired. And booking I've day off I would have 4 off

Onaslipperyslope · 07/03/2020 11:56

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Get paid for all the bank Holidays. Midweek break great & still have long weekend.

dementedpixie · 07/03/2020 12:02

But if you work Mondays you have less choice as to when to take your holidays as you need to take those mondays out of your entitlement. If you dont work Monday you get bank holidays accounted for pro rata in your entitlement but have more choice about when take them.

duckfacetwo · 07/03/2020 13:26

the good thing about working 3 consecutive days are weekend breaks without using holiday & often it's cheaper to fly on a Thurs instead of a Fri or return Mon instead of Sun

YellowHighHeels · 07/03/2020 13:39

Depends on the job (sorry if you've specified, it's too long to RTFT!).

Most meetings and Skypes happen early in the week wherever I've worked.

Missing mon/ tuesday would mean losing the chance to have input on work and join discussions. Fridays tend to be quieter so what about working mon-wed? This would allow you to work smart, keeping more of a hand in while reducing your hours.

If the meetings point does not apply, doing Tues to Thurs would be lovely.

MrsRobert · 07/03/2020 18:54

Meetings at the start of the week and socialising at the end of the week in my workplace. Tuesdays-Thursdays would be the ideal.

mrst3 · 07/03/2020 18:59

I do Tue Wed Thu.. it's like having long weekend either side. On downside my place never pay me for bank holiday Monday's. I love my days!

StudentMummy19 · 07/03/2020 19:22

I'm a full time student at the moment and study Tues-Thurs. I'd love working just those days. I do have a part time job too but working Tues-Thurs would be bliss!

StudentMummy19 · 07/03/2020 19:25

@CottonSock Shock I hope they are open bank holidays!

ZazuMoon · 07/03/2020 19:29

I’m doing Tuesday Wednesday Thursday when I go back and that is apparently the most popular choice for nursery places.

PorpentinaScamander · 07/03/2020 19:29

My ideal hours would be school day, or 9-5ish Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

I attend church groups Tuesday and Thursday which I need for my mental wellbeing.

user1497207191 · 07/03/2020 19:33

I'd work Fri, Sat, Sun. They're the 3 busiest days in shops, attractions, cinemas, etc. That would give me Mon-Thurs off and we'd be able to enjoy everything being a lot quieter, no crowds, etc.

jamdonut · 08/03/2020 10:23

When I worked part-time I did Mon -Wed , but I never had to use holiday up!? If a bank holiday falls on your working day, it is still a bank holiday-you are entitled to those.. if your contract says you you should work on a bank holiday, you should be entitled to a day off in lieu.
