What 3 days would you pick to work part time?

I'm leaning towards Mon, Tue & Wed, as it would be nice to keep the weekend long.

But would it be better to break it up, have a day off midweek?

What pattern do you do if you are part time?

I used to do Tue, Wed, Thur - long weekend every week, I bloody loved it

Sammy867 · 05/03/2020 23:23

I work monday, tuesday then thursday, friday. I don't think I would like working three days in a row as I find it's harder to get back into the swing of the working week after an extended time off and I feel I would miss too much having 4 days off in a row. I think I would work tuesday, thursday and friday. The end of the week always seems to have a better atmosphere than the beginning; attitudes of colleagues and customers or clients as people are winding down for the weekend so I much prefer thursday and friday to monday and tuesday.

overnightangel · 05/03/2020 23:25

Surely Tuesday Wednesday Thursday is a no brainer

hubblebubbletoilandtrubble · 05/03/2020 23:30

I do Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday. I actually love it. You escape the misery and traffic of Monday, have a break mid week and then Fridays at my work are calmer and peaceful and I can finish things off properly before I go home. Plus everyone is in a good mood! Most people part time seem to not work Fridays and town / supermarkets etc is seemingly just as busy on a Friday as a Saturday, so by having other days off in the week you can visit supermarket etc when it's quieter.

Thinkingabout1t · 05/03/2020 23:30

I would have chosen Tues-Thurs when I was young, in order to have long weekends and not have to return with all the crowds on a Sunday.

When I worked four days a week I was glad of having Wednesday off to break up the week, as I was older and had quite a long commute.

It also depends on your work. In some jobs having a day off in the middle can be inconvenient as it breaks up the flow. In others that doesn't make any difference.

Teddy1970 · 05/03/2020 23:48

I work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays I have every Friday and Monday off and it's a long weekend every week!

AvoidingRealHumans · 05/03/2020 23:51

I work 4 days - Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri. I initially wanted fridays off but so glad it was refused, the Wednesday's off really breaks up the week nicely.

DroppedBoxxedRuth · 05/03/2020 23:52

In Australia you get paid for public holidays you work so I'm doing Monday and Tuesday in the office and Thursday from home.

DorsetCamping · 05/03/2020 23:52

This thread has got me thinking. I currently work Mon, Thurs, Friday but maybe I need to change, although I work through NHS bank so the BHs don't affect me.

SaltedCaramelEverything · 06/03/2020 01:56

Tue weds thurs 100%
Gives you your Sunday evenings back I love it!

SisyphusHadItEasy · 06/03/2020 02:32

For me, especially if it were flexible, I would choose base on the schedule of the rest of my family. I would share time with them, but try to ensure I had a bit of time for myself, too.

AnotherMurkyDay · 06/03/2020 03:32

I'd do either Monday Tuesday and Thursday or Tuesday Wednesday and Friday because I would rather have a day mid week to get things done (or relax) than an overly long weekend. If I didn't have kids then Tuesday-Thursday though so I could enjoy some long weekends I guess it depends a lot on your life style

Groovee · 06/03/2020 17:27

I used to work Tues/Wed/Thurs as it meant I didn’t have to payback days for the Monday holidays as they are pro rata.

Now do Mon/Tues/Thurs as I need that break in the middle with my chronic health condition.

AnTeallach · 06/03/2020 17:29

I currently work Mon, Tues, Weds and alternate Saturday mornings. Could do without the Saturdays, but love the Mon - Weds. Cheaper to get away on long weekends too, as fewer people travel on Thursdays!

IceColdCat · 06/03/2020 17:32

My favourite combination is Mon, Wed, Thurs. I like to have my days off spread out rather than next to each other. I find I'm more productive on my days off, and also it means that my email inbox doesn't build up too much in my absence.

SegregateMumBev · 06/03/2020 17:34

When I worked a 4 day week I took Wednesdays off. meant I only ever worked 2 days at a time (so going to work, knowing I've only one more day then I get a day off)

Plus being a NotWeekend day meant I got to Do Stuff like gardening, hiking, gym class, vets, dentist, things that I wouldn't do if it was a long weekend day.

I'd go for Mon Tues Thurs.

minimonkey11 · 06/03/2020 17:35

I always worked tues weds thurs and when i mentioned it to a friend they said ‘oh you are a Twat!’ (Tues weds and thurs)! Loved it though - long weekends! Full time now and i miss it.

Zeb81 · 06/03/2020 17:36

I do Tuesday Wednesday Thursday, perfect

PuppyMonkey · 06/03/2020 17:38

I think I must have worked every combination of three days going in my time. Grin

I liked Tues-Thurs, but I must admit, I worked Mon, Thurs and Fri at one point and it was surprisingly nice getting those two weekdays off. I didn’t dread Monday because I could enjoy the thought of only working one day and then getting two days off. And Thursday and Friday were just more chilled out days where I worked, so it was a nice couple of days at the office and then the weekend. And repeat!

Depends where you work I suppose!

gingerninja1808 · 06/03/2020 17:44

I used to work Tues, Wed and Thur which was great in terms of long weekends etc, but I never benefitted from Bank Holiday Mondays as I didn't work Mondays....

happybunny03 · 06/03/2020 17:45

I would go with Mon, Tue and Thu. I love having Wed off as a mid-week break for myself. On Fri most people wfh in my office anyway and hard to get meetings in the diary/work done on a Fri afternoon

Lincolnfield · 06/03/2020 17:50

Please don’t do Mondays! I had a theatre nurse who worked part time Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and NEVER stopped complaining that she didn’t get the bank holidays and felt she was entitled to days off in lieu. She nearly sent me demented! Even the Union rep couldn’t get through to her. I was so bloody relieved when she left to work elsewhere.

PuppyMonkey · 06/03/2020 17:50

Ginger, you should really have got pro rata bank holidays added to your annual leave though (if you’re UK), as has been pointed out earlier in the thread.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t know this... comes up so often on threads.Confused

Mummy012 · 06/03/2020 17:53

You’ll only get pro rata bank holiday hours so if you work a Monday you don’t get enough to cover all the bank holidays and end up having to use annual leave hours. I work wed-fri but would prefer tues- thurs

Lincolnfield · 06/03/2020 17:54

Oops! Brain freeze! Re my earlier message, the nurse worked Wednesday to Friday, so of course never ‘got’ the bank holidays! I offered her to work Monday to Wednesday but she didn’t want to but STILL wanted the BHs!
