Wine every Evening?

Busymum45 · 04/03/2020 21:21

I love a glass of wine most nights, normally one or two but more at weekends, is this ok or a bad sign ?! Try to have one or 2 wine free nights. I associate it with wind down and relaxation as have a busy life.

Is it unreasonable to want to drink wine every eve?

Good grief I'd never manage a bottle! Beena one glass most nights person for a long time so don't think there's any danger of more?

That’s dead on 14 units a week, which is what the NHS recommends

The point is - quoting one person's experience means nothing in the scheme of long term effects.

My mum used to drink one sherry every day. She died at 48 from a stroke.

Again - within the limits.

But she got used to her daily tipple.

Busymum45 · 04/03/2020 22:58

Im worried really it's a habit, sat with a cup of tea just doesn't cut it though!

Chinny way to go! 🍷 Gone are the days for both activities for me. 😂.

You are a functioning alcoholic, many people have stressful lives but you need help to cope in a less destructive way.

Hirsutefirs · 04/03/2020 23:14

My mum didn’t drink and died at 49.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/03/2020 23:19

I have wine most nights too - just a glass, usually diluted with sparkling water to make it last - sometimes a glass and a half if I'm feeling it.

I probably shouldn't but it's better than saving it up and binge drinking at the weekend because my liver has a constant stock of alcohol detoxifying enzymes at the ready.

I don't miss it if I don't have it - for e.g. health or whatever reasons - but if there's no reason not to have a glass, then I still will. I like it!

I’m loving that logic. Going to use that with myself Grin

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/03/2020 23:26

"functioning alcoholic" on one glass a night? Don't make me laugh!!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/03/2020 23:26

bool - it helps that it's also true! Grin

I couldn't find any hand sanitisers - Boooo!!! - But as alcohol is the chief ingredient of hand sanitisers I've filled a perfume bottle with gin and am spraying liberally and frequently, in the interests of hygiene. I understand viruses are often transmitted orally, so I'm paying particular attention to my Or.

Hic.

I may shit in the shagging room later. Or not.

Your good health.

Chlam0 · 04/03/2020 23:27

Yes, I thought a functioning alcoholic would be drinking more than that. Probably hiding what they drink too. I think it’s when you start to hide it that you have a problem.

squeekums · 04/03/2020 23:28

I make myself cocktails most nights, they taste great and help me unwind

AgeLikeWine · 04/03/2020 23:32

Beer is my tipple of choice, and I absolutely adore the stuff. I’m a proper beer geek, always looking for tasty new treats. I do try to keep a lid on things, though, and I find that having three completely alcohol-free days each week from Monday to Wednesday works for me. Then I can enjoy my weekend beers with a clear conscience.

DingleberryRose · 04/03/2020 23:38

I think alcohol every day or most days is excessive!!

redcarbluecar · 04/03/2020 23:46

I probably have wine most nights, and can polish off a bottle quite easily on occasion. I'm sure that's too much but, like you, I enjoy it. I came here for the comments but am a bit disappointed. Where are the "I have three glasses of wine per year?" people?

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/03/2020 23:52

It’s not the amount it’s the not being able to go a day without alcohol.

SonjaMorgan · 04/03/2020 23:55

I drink most nights. If you swopped the wine for cider I would never drink again.

FrockFrockFrockityFrock · 05/03/2020 00:03

@EnidBlyton

Hope you feel better soon.

FrockFrockFrockityFrock · 05/03/2020 00:05

YANBU OP. Enjoy your vino.

MadameMeursault · 05/03/2020 00:11

It is Winesday. So it’d be rude to not partake.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 05/03/2020 00:13

I’m really, really fat so recently switched my 2 or 3 glasses a night for gentle exercise. (Swimming or walking.)

I feel a million times better and a million times more relaxed. Turns out the wine wasn’t really relaxing me, it was just making me temporarily not notice that I was totally stressed out. Exercise actually does relax me (and there’s no one more surprised by that than me.)

Worth a try if you’re worried?

redcarbluecar · 05/03/2020 00:24

@BesmirchingMotherhood well done! I’d be having the wine to reward me for the gentle exercise Smile

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 05/03/2020 00:26

@MyDcAreMarvel - the OP doesn't say she CAN'T go without it, she says she likes to have it. The 2 are not the same thing.
