Hey everyone, I came across this Loewe bag a few months ago and i feel like i'm really into it, however not sure whether it's worth buying it for this amount of money (I mean it's just a basket bag). What do you think of it and would you get it?
this is the bag www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-medium-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1465320.html?catref=category
thanks x

but i feel like there is a story behind this bag (it's hand made)

A fool and their money...

jinxpixie · 04/03/2020 16:26

Clever marketing ploy though -it got a lot of people clicking on the link.

Silvercatowner · 04/03/2020 16:28

If you can afford it and it will bring you pleasure to buy it then buy it.

lowlandLucky · 04/03/2020 16:28

It looks like it is sold on a market stall

SilverySurfer · 04/03/2020 16:28

An ad for these bags has just appeared on the right of my screen.

If you think the one you chose is too cheap, why not go for this fugly one: www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1224018.html?utm_source=Display&utm_medium=Retargeting&utm_campaign=gb_criteo_en

it's only £810, or even fuglier: www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-exclusive-to-mytheresa-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1208690.html?utm_source=Display&utm_medium=Retargeting&utm_campaign=gb_criteo_en

For a mere £915.

I can understand paying those prices for a beautiful leather handbag that will last for years but not for something that will only last one summer, before looking tacky and look no different from the £20 version I've seen in my market.

Therollockingrogue · 04/03/2020 16:29

There is a story behind every object ever Grin

Winterwoollies · 04/03/2020 16:31

There’s a local French shop near me which sells handmade straw bags for £18. They have a real story. This bag is not better because it’s extortionately priced.

Roussette · 04/03/2020 16:31

You could do a price-blind MN review of basket bags and nobody would be able to tell which ones were £325 and which were £25

Totally agree.

If it were a leather bag, I think you can often tell quality. With the clasps, the linings etc. But not with an open basket bag. I'm just gobsmacked that they can't even be arsed to put in a drawstring safety thing inside. Total waste of money. I would pay £15 for it.

And believe me.... I love a bit of luxury. So, no I'm not going round in secondhand £10 shoes or a crap car.

I do, however, like some element of value for money.

MintyMabel · 04/03/2020 16:34

Maybe if they added this....

Standrewsschool · 04/03/2020 16:35

Next

Next have one very similar at £48. Also has leather handles and a square leather patch. However, it’s tan rather than white, which is probably more pracrical.

hiredandsqueak · 04/03/2020 16:35

I wouldn't but bags don't float my boat but I's happily spend that on a piece of glassware. If you like it and can afford it and want it then you should get it.

Standrewsschool · 04/03/2020 16:35

Practical

abfluent · 04/03/2020 16:37

it's just worrying how many people are actually angry or mean to someone who is just asking for opinions or help
like what's your problem

@MintyMabel Grin Grin Grin Has it got a shelf inside as well?

TheMemoryLingers · 04/03/2020 16:42

The fact you have to ask online suggests you're not sure about it, so I wouldn't bother. If you really wanted it you'd have bought it straight away.

Agree with pps that for that sort of £££ I'd want a leather last-me-a-lifetime bag. That one isn't durable, nor is it a classic style (except perhaps as a beach bag).

Fruitsaladjelly · 04/03/2020 16:44

I would buy it, see if the quality is good and keep if it’s lovely, I saw something similar by Stella Mccartney the other day but it was over £1000, I drew the line there as it a trend that won’t last beyond a couple of summers. £325 I’d go for.

abfluent · 04/03/2020 16:44

@TheMemoryLingers so it's ok when others asked about which Mulberry bag to get or whether they should spend £450 on Dyson Airwrap - maybe they were also unsure about the purchase, but i don't feel like they got so much hate

OP posts:
TheMemoryLingers · 04/03/2020 16:47

abfluent I'd say the same to anyone who was uncertain about an expensive purchase that was a luxury, not a necessity.

BluntAndToThePoint80 · 04/03/2020 16:48

You can find a much nicer one than that for the price (similar level of designer brand).

I have a lush basket and brown leather one from Ellie Tahari, bought a few years ago.

I don’t actually object to the price (I love designer bags) but I don’t like the bag itself. However if you like it, then go for it.

Fruitsaladjelly · 04/03/2020 16:49

people saying you can get something the ‘same’ from next - you can get something that looks the same, the difference only becomes apparent 2 month or so in, when the cheap bag is looking tired, the leather has stretched and started to delaminate etc and the expensive bag still looks the way it did when you bought it. Workmanship and quality of materials does make a difference

Roussette · 04/03/2020 16:52

Don't agree. Sometimes you can pay not much and it lasts years, like my basket bag. Still get complimented on it. And it has a lining unlike this one.

Not sure about the hate on here? Is that because a lot of people don't think the bag is worth the money?

notacooldad · 04/03/2020 16:53

So you e asked if yabu to buy the bag.
Most people have laughed their socks off at the bag and the price.
So are you going to buy it?

MayFayner · 04/03/2020 17:00

so it's ok when others asked about which Mulberry bag to get or whether they should spend £450 on Dyson Airwrap

A Mulberry bag or a Dyson airwrap might be worth their price on a cost per wear or use basis. A basket bag will get ratty looking no matter how much it cost, so it won’t last. Also, those threads are nearly always in Style & Beauty, not AIBU.

You asked and everyone answered 🤷‍♀️

Hotchocolate321 · 04/03/2020 17:07

I bought one like that from tk max last year for the beach it was about £13, the most annoying impractical bag ever, even for just taking to the beach!!

mindproject · 04/03/2020 17:07

I quite like basket bags, but not this one. I saw a nice one on Etsy for £30 but decided it as too expensive for a basket bag. Even if I was a billionaire I would never pay hundreds for a bag, there are much better things to buy.

But it's your money, so my opinion is irrelevant.
