Hey everyone, I came across this Loewe bag a few months ago and i feel like i'm really into it, however not sure whether it's worth buying it for this amount of money (I mean it's just a basket bag). What do you think of it and would you get it?
this is the bag www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-medium-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1465320.html?catref=category
thanks x

If you can afford it and you like it that much buy it! Trust me, if I had a spare grand (bit more I know) I would be straight off to a Mulberry shop!!

ShinyMe · 04/03/2020 20:05

In my experience, if you've been lusting after a thing for MONTHS, as you say, then you need to buy it, or you'll regret it (so long as you can actually afford it).

I personally think that bag's ugly and too open, and I wouldn't pay a fiver for it, but then I'm not the one using it. If you like it that much, and you can afford it, then just get it.

Once upon a time, there was a woman with more money than sense. One day, a cunning company realised that by sticking a huge price tag on crap, they could con people like this woman into thinking there was a "story" behind it. And lo and behold, she was scammed out of some of her excessive riches, while they lived happily ever after. The end.

If I fall In love with a Mulberry bag i move heaven and earth to get it Grin, so if you can afford it and it will make you sublimely happy then you have my blessing!

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 04/03/2020 20:15

Theres a story behind the bag because it's hand made? Who do you think weaves the basket bags for Primarni then? Robots?

Iflyaway · 04/03/2020 20:16

I would put that money into a savings account for my pension...
Much more important.

Cos you never know what life will throw at you.

Give the money to a deserving charity.

Alsohuman · 04/03/2020 20:22

And you’d get a very well made leather bag that would last a very long time if you looked after it. There’s no comparison.

Femail · 04/03/2020 20:26

It looks like something my gran use to carry around with her Biscuit OP if you like it then go for it if you can afford it

timetest · 04/03/2020 20:35

If you love it and can afford it, what’s stopping you?

Nekoness · 04/03/2020 20:41

On a positive note, it’s better than this £421 minuscule bag
(which came up from the last link)

kevintheorangecarrot · 04/03/2020 20:59

I hope you're joking...

I saw the Lowe baskets in Selfridges last week - they are a lot of money for what you get ! I have a Rae Feather basket which you can also personalise. It is still expensive but it has lasted me for ages.

I saw a lovely basket bag in Matalan the other day!

Nekoness · 04/03/2020 21:07

Wow, love this one but raefeather. If anyone knows where they sell a version for about £30-40 so I could use it as an actual shopping bag - please link!

We are not hating on you...we are hating on the bag. It really is an ugly bag for that price. How did you come across it? Did you see it on an influencer's insta? Be honest with yourself, would you have even considered this bag if you had browed the website on your own and not seen anyone else using this bag?

missinginactiongeorge · 04/03/2020 22:45

Emperor’s new clothes, mate. Step away.
You want to feel better about yourself, give the money to a charity, one that means something to you.

GivenchyDahhling · 04/03/2020 22:53

Buying a “cheap” bag from a prestige designer is always a rip off because you’re buying entry into the brand.

If you want a Loewe bag then save up for a Puzzle or whatever. Buying a straw/canvas/nylon bag is a complete waste of money IMO.

Nancydrawn · 04/03/2020 22:57

Look the bag itself is fine, and I don't necessarily mind the price, but the patch is not good. There's a reason that YSL, Louis Vuitton, et al. are moving away from the monogram towards patterns.

The trend as a whole has tipped over, but if you want to go French straw bag and can't get to France right now, I'd go to etsy--they have some excellent ones for under £50. You could also go Birkin basket bag, which is a little more unusual.

Or, for a bit cheaper than Loewe but still designer-y, try Florabella. I hate their clothes, but some (not all!) of the bags are nice. I'm attaching a few.

That type of basket frays badly , very quickly. I have a similar one but no where near that much and it’s looking frayed after only a couple of months.
£325 for any bag is a bit silly , but , for what you’ve shown, you’re being massively ripped off. The materials aren’t worth more than twenty quid and it’s probably made in a sweat shop.

drina27 · 04/03/2020 23:30

How depressing to think of that. People are so gullible.

pigsDOfly · 04/03/2020 23:53

I've got something very similar that an American relation of my exh gave me years and years ago.

They sold them in their shop, it cost nowhere near £325, however, it's just as ugly; also has leather handles.

The only reason I've still got it is that having used it a couple of times for the beach I got fed up with the fraying and scratchiness of it and stuck it in a cupboard for years where it got forgotten.

Came across it when I was moving house and keep my knitting in it now.

Agree with pps, the story behind this bag is probably the same as almost every other fashion item you buy from this company or any other: it's been made by some poor sod in a sweat shop in some third world country where the person who made it was paid a pittance.

There's no romantic story behind it. It wasn't woven by some skilful artisan in some far flung island paradise.

Not for a basket bag. X
