Hey everyone, I came across this Loewe bag a few months ago and i feel like i'm really into it, however not sure whether it's worth buying it for this amount of money (I mean it's just a basket bag). What do you think of it and would you get it?
this is the bag www.mytheresa.com/en-gb/loewe-medium-leather-trimmed-basket-tote-1465320.html?catref=category
thanks x

I wouldn't buy Primark either. But if you want a basket go to TKMaxx when they get the Spring/Summer stuff in, you can get a handmade basket with a name of some sort on for a lot less and spend the rest of the money on something nice.

Roussette · 04/03/2020 15:55

A bargain?

Really? It's a bloody straw bag!

I have a beautiful straw bag I've used for years, I get complimented on it, I bought it at a market in Spain for 15euros.

No. It's not a bargain.

LucheroTena · 04/03/2020 15:56

Overpriced straw basket. They give a bunch of them free to grabby Instagram mums and suddenly they’re all over social media.

CorianderLord · 04/03/2020 15:57

I sold similar for £40 on eBay. Down from £200.

It looks like it cost you £12 at a French mini mart.

CorianderLord · 04/03/2020 15:58

£325 for a 'story'? They saw you coming.... that story is just marketing

DollyPomPoms · 04/03/2020 15:58

I haven’t read the full thread but I love it. I would check Depop for second hand though as they were fished out to bloggers so there will be a few unwanted floating about.

MrsWBodie · 04/03/2020 15:59

Personally I like this bag, but I couldn’t bare to buy it purely on the basis that it was gifted to so many influencers last summer.

DimplesToadfoot · 04/03/2020 15:59

Friend of mine had a bag very much like these mentioned, she was always going places, out to lunch etc and so the bag often ended up on the floor, some little tiny bugs decided it was the ideal habitat and make the bag their home, she ended up burning the bag ... they give me the creeps now when I see them

Roussette · 04/03/2020 15:59

OMG. It's even got an open top. Great for pickpockets. Mine (15 euros) has material draw string inside.
A complete waste of money but I've no idea why you are asking a bunch of random people if you should buy it.

PeppermintPasty · 04/03/2020 15:59

My gosh, I am not hard up but that is grossly extravagant for a straw bag, I mean it’s terrible value.

I did wonder whether you work for them and have been sent off to do a bit of market research on here?!

Sticking to the question, no I would not buy it, and I think the square on it is ugly, and yes yabu to even consider buying that!

Shinesweetfreedom · 04/03/2020 16:00

Hand made in this country or elsewhere.

Ponoka7 · 04/03/2020 16:00

@abfluent, Loewe scores really low for ethical shopping (seeing as you've just mentioned ethics). Their fair trade isn't what it seems and they have had cases against them of cultural appropriation, which they haven't profit shared with the group involved.

I don't shop in primark and wouldn't buy a bag that couldn't be closed, but there will be one a lot cheaper that is also hand made and fair traded. The one linked to for £16.99 was both.

Their clothing to me looks, badly finished. The prints aren't particularly unique. On the bag, i think the handles and badge cheapen it.

Ponoka7 · 04/03/2020 16:02

@Shinesweetfreedom

"Hand made in this country or elsewhere."

Italy and China. Sometimes most of the item is made in China and shipped to italy to put the badge/handles on, that way they get to say 'made in Italy'. Which is why they score low, for sustainability.

notacooldad · 04/03/2020 16:03

The OP is clearly having us on £325 for a straw beach bag
'Theres a story behind it* 🤣
Who's Theresa? When she clearly posted from the MyTheresa website.
'Its so much better than Primark" primark are not the only retailer to sell beach bags!!
Next, Debenhams, John Lewis and others will be full of these bags in another 6 weeks or so for a 1/10 of the price!

Wiaa · 04/03/2020 16:04

@JingsMahBucket that bracelets a lovely design but will look like a piece of cheap tat as the plate wears off and it all discolours and omg that catch is totally impractical and probably useless.

JingsMahBucket · 04/03/2020 16:05

@datasgingercatspot ah, I didn't notice the gold-plated feature. That changes my mind a bit. It is 22k gold though versus 10k or 14k which may be more likely to rub off sooner.

(Also I love your username @datasgingercatspot. Smile )

@abfluent I also agree regarding Primark. To me it's weird that people automatically go to the lowest/cheapest common denominator as a reflex. They've been trained really well by the fashion industry but now that's biting the fashion industry on the butt so many years later.

Primark and other fast fashion is usually crap quality with horrible working practices. Fast fashion of the last 5 – 8 years usually falls apart within one season, especially the accessories (jewelry, bags, etc). I have an $125 H & M winter coat from 2001 that's absolutely gorgeous and is still warm as heck but there is no way I'd buy anything that "expensive" from H & M now because the quality would be nowhere nearly as good as the 19 year old coat.

@abfluent again, depending on how it's made and if it's made in good quality I would probably pay £100 – £125 for it but maybe add on an extra £50 for label/branding.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/03/2020 16:05

That strange white square on the side ... is it for writing "BREAD" on?

Well, someone had to say it Blush

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 04/03/2020 16:07

(it's hand made)

My chocolate cake from Aldi is "hand finished", but I'm not kidding myself there is an apple-cheeked granny in her rustic country cottage lovingly icing each one by hand.

1forAll74 · 04/03/2020 16:10

It's the cheapest looking one in the site advert photo's, with having the white on it, but would never pay that much for any or them. I once had a similar looking shopping basket, cost me £5.50, I could get quite a few cabbages, carrots, and onions in it down at the garden market where I lived then. !

abfluent · 04/03/2020 16:11

@notacooldad i only posted a link to MyTheresa because i shop from that website, so i don't understand any acquisitions
i can then refer to many people as Primark based on your logic

WorraLiberty · 04/03/2020 16:13

No you shouldn't buy it.

Because if you have to ask strangers on the internet whether you're unreasonable for spending your own money, you probably shouldn't be in charge of your own income/expenditure.

LEELULUMPKIN · 04/03/2020 16:13

The white square really uglifies it.

Mother87 · 04/03/2020 16:16

Looks cheap/unremarkable - much nicer/interesting handmade/artisan bags @ craft markets/amazon/monsoon/even M&S have straw ones in usually...

silencebeforethebleeps · 04/03/2020 16:18

I wouldn't want to be seen dead with it, but I do understand what it's like to really want something, your mind goes a bit funny. If it will make you happy, go for it.

lazylinguist · 04/03/2020 16:18

Everyone saying you could buy something similar for £10 are I assume driving around in a shitty car, wearing ugly shoes and eating processed foods, because...they are so similar to the nice versions.

GrinGrinGrin Oh please. You could do a price-blind MN review of basket bags and nobody would be able to tell which ones were £325 and which were £25.

In what precise way is the £325 one better? Better quality? How do you know? Hand made? So what? Story behind it? Yes, a story of enormous profit and gullible customers.
