Given the spread of COVID 19, are you able to work from home and will you? Are your employers encouraging you to work from home or playing it down?

Home Carer here so nope!

TrippingOnSunshine · 03/03/2020 15:59

InMySpareTime
Your job sounds amazing!
Anyway for me, dh & I both need to be physically present to do our jobs, so no.

WashHandsTwentySeconds · 03/03/2020 16:03

I'm based working from home so would make no difference to me!

mrsm43s · 03/03/2020 16:03

I could work from home, and I currently do at least 2 days a week. So if I was in a position where I needed to self isolate, or that travelling to my London office was problematic, I'd just work from home.

Areyoufree · 03/03/2020 16:04

Confused by the voting, so may have messed it up. I can work from home, but am not currently working from home. If they suggest it's a good idea to do so, then I will work from home.

BerryPieandCustard · 03/03/2020 16:05

I’m a school catering manager... so no I can’t work from home.... if we were to close for a period of time I would use the time to review and update the recipes and double check my costings and profit margins which is a massive task and i usually do it in July every year as we have 5 non pupil days.
I’ve also just got some new labelling software which requires a lot of data to be put onto the system to create labels compliant with Natashas Law for next year so at least I would be ahead of the game

QuestionableMouse · 03/03/2020 16:05

I work for McDonald's so no. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😂

bluechameleon · 03/03/2020 16:06

No because I'm a teacher.

Oblomov20 · 03/03/2020 16:07

Done jobs you just can't! For those that can, Hopefully Corona will make Gretas message sink home, and people will have conference calls instead of stupid flying and unnecessary travelling to meetings.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/03/2020 16:07

I can work from home as can 90% of my colleagues. The company won't request we do so unless absolutely necessary but if we needed to self-isolate we would WFH.

logicbook · 03/03/2020 16:10

I'm a midwife. I'd love to be able to run a clinic in my home with cups of tea and nice biscuits, comfy sofas rather than clinical couches, and appointments lasting longer than 20 minutes... but sadly I work for the NHS 😁

bengalcat · 03/03/2020 16:12

surgeon so no cant work from home .

Abelino · 03/03/2020 16:12

I work in the civil service and yes I can, and I usually do because my local office isn't the best working environment. I know attitudes to working from home vary depending on your manager though so I feel lucky to have this option.

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2020 16:15

YABU = I AM NOT going to work from home
YANBU = I AM going to work from home

So how do you vote if you literally can't work from home? Confused

I can't and the union at work is trying to come to some sort of agreement with my employers (public sector) about how long we'll be on full pay for if we have to self isolate.

WorraLiberty · 03/03/2020 16:16

surgeon so no cant work from home.

You could play Operation and try not to set the buzzer off Grin

5zeds · 03/03/2020 16:16

It would be kinda cool if lots of employers discovered working from home worked and people stopped commutes so much.

I can work from home, but still going into the office as before 3 days out of 5. Work in a profession where we are quite paper based, with files needing to be handed over, and also face to face discussions with colleagues very helpful at reaching consistent decisions. Limited public facing, so that’s good.

But if it all kicks off could work from home more, but would be tricky on the days dh works from home because of desk and monitor access.

5zeds · 03/03/2020 16:18

@WorraLiberty vote “YABU”, because you aren’t going to.

AlunWynsKnee · 03/03/2020 16:18

I wfh 80% of the time anyway. I may up that to 100% of the time in the next week or two.

lazylinguist · 03/03/2020 16:21

Nope. Teacher. Peripatetic one, paid hourly on a time sheet, not on the payroll. So if schools close I won't get paid.

Nicknacky · 03/03/2020 16:23

Couldn’t work from home no matter how much I wanted to or how bad the virus gets!

puppymouse · 03/03/2020 16:24

Wfh most of the time anyway. Wouldn't choose to exclusively because of Corona.

LouisaJenny · 03/03/2020 16:26

I’m office based at the moment, however my employers are sorting laptops for everyone in case they are needed.

HopefullyAnonymous · 03/03/2020 16:26

Police officer, so if anything I’ll be working more 😂

NomDeDieu · 03/03/2020 16:27

Seeing that to do my job I need to be WITH people (no other option), no way I can work from home.

As I am self employed, this also means that being at home = no pay ( necked my insurance, it doesn’t cover pandemic as a reason for not working....)
