Electric toothbrush

I am aware this is a small issue and by no means the biggest problem in my life but...

I recently bought an electric toothbrush (came with 2 toothbrush heads) and it got delivered to my house whilst a friend was over. I opened the parcel and they saw it what it was and said oh is that yours or DHs?
I said it's for both, as our old one broke, we share it and have our own brush head each.

Well my friend was horrified that we share an electric toothbrush?! We only share the bit you hold and we have our own brush heads?!

Now I thought everyone did this?! Are we gross?????

Where do you put the head when it's not on the brush?

Where do you put your toothbrush when you’re not using it?

Likefootball · 02/03/2020 22:34

Perfectly normal to share.

ImTheCaddy · 02/03/2020 22:35

We all share!

Jiggeriepokerie · 02/03/2020 22:40

We're a family of 4 and have 4 complete toothbrushes. No way am I using a soggy spit ridden handle that isn't mine.

Oral B makes a fortune out of me.

ElizabethG81 · 02/03/2020 22:41

Mumsnet never ceases to amaze me, there's always some random thing that everyone else seems to do that's never crossed my mind before. A whole family sharing an electric toothbrush? Insanity, but just the kind of Mumsnet insanity that I love 😂

GetTheSprinkles · 02/03/2020 22:42

@purpledaisies Our toothbrushes stand on the sink beside the tap so wouldn't be able to do this for both heads ifysim.
Genuinely interested in what people do as havent seen this before

SciFiScream · 02/03/2020 22:43

We share between all 4 of us in the house. It came with a special holder (with lid) for the heads.

How wasteful to have multiple bases when you could share!

Rebootingagain · 02/03/2020 22:45

Sharing would completely screw up the stats on my Bluetooth app 😂

PurpleDaisies · 02/03/2020 22:46

You need to google “toothbrush head holder”

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 02/03/2020 22:47

Totally normal.

My dc share the body part & just have their own heads. Dh prefers a normal brush but does have some heads for mine that he’ll use on occasions/when we go away.

The dc all have a bit of (different) coloured electrical tape around their heads so they know which is theirs Smile They give it a good wash after they use it ready for the next person.

Hornets · 02/03/2020 22:47

I share with my husband. We each have a brush head (with the coloured bands) and we also have a little stand for the two brush heads.

After each use the brush head comes off and is rinsed and put back on the stand. We never, ever, leave the brush head on the main body. For a start a lot of gunk comes out the bottom of the head - think what that's doing to the main body if you leave it on. Confused

NoSauce · 02/03/2020 22:47

Faff.

BumbleBeee69 · 02/03/2020 22:49

this is revolting... 🤢 we do NOT share bases... WTAF 🤢 we have our own entire complete electric toothbrushes.... period

Naughty1205 · 02/03/2020 22:51

Have never heard of this, we each have our own. Would never have crossed my mind to share. Bit silly I think!

LemonFrenzy · 02/03/2020 22:52

We share electric brushes. They don't get sticky because we RINSE them after each use. Can't see the problem. Everyone keeps on about plastic and the planet. As you were OP. Your neighbour is as mad as a coot.

jomaIone · 02/03/2020 22:52

How dirty are people's toothbrushes getting????

I don't use an electric one, don't like them, but have never got my toothbrush covered in spit or anything else 'mucky' or 'sticky'!!! WTF

ElizabethG81 · 02/03/2020 22:52

The coloured bands always slip off when I change my heads. How do you get them to stay on?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 02/03/2020 22:53

Bumble why is it revolting? The base touches your hand, that’s it. You then take the head off & rinse that & the base to clean them (which is what you should do after each brush anyway regardless of who’s using it next).

BumbleBeee69 · 02/03/2020 22:56

it's REVOLTING 🤢

Quicknamechange2020 · 02/03/2020 22:57

I’ve not heard of this before either but we’re not really an electric toothbrush family. I don’t think I’d like sharing with my OH though.

TheSmallAssassin · 02/03/2020 22:59

I was going to berate people for being so wasteful as to double up on the toothbrush body, especially as you can't replace the batteries or recycle them. But then I remembered that the reason we share one between two instead of one between four now is because we built a whole new extra bathroom and have a toothbrush body in each.

But anyway, you are supposed to share them! Ours has little pegs to put the heads on - you need to take them off to rinse them so how can it be a faff to swap them over?

pigsDOfly · 02/03/2020 22:59

@ElizabethG81 If you push the ring on properly you'll hear it click. Once it's clicked into place it will stay on.

SuburbanFraggle · 02/03/2020 23:01

It sounds to me as if some of you are even sharing bathrooms. Disgusting.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 02/03/2020 23:05

Suburban sometimes we even share a sofa Grin

ElizabethG81 · 02/03/2020 23:08

PigsDoFly OMG, you're right, I just clicked mine on to MY toothbrush. I've always just assumed that bit stayed loose Grin

This is blowing my mind.
