Electric toothbrush

ivfbabymomma1 · 02/03/2020 21:58

I am aware this is a small issue and by no means the biggest problem in my life but...

I recently bought an electric toothbrush (came with 2 toothbrush heads) and it got delivered to my house whilst a friend was over. I opened the parcel and they saw it what it was and said oh is that yours or DHs?
I said it's for both, as our old one broke, we share it and have our own brush head each.

Well my friend was horrified that we share an electric toothbrush?! We only share the bit you hold and we have our own brush heads?!

Now I thought everyone did this?! Are we gross?????

Oops sorry just seen that you've answered that...

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2020 07:57

Yes, dh has a cheap manual toothbrush. We’re rarely away not together so it’s not exactly a huge hardship to use one for a few days.

iano · 03/03/2020 08:01

We share. Clearly Philips expect people to share too as they sell those stands for the various heads.

What a waste of money to buy two stands. Bad for the environment too.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 03/03/2020 08:08

When I was in a relationship - many years ago - we had one each but that was just due to my 'gender fluidity'. I'm a shaved head sporting, Doc Marten wearing, football season ticket holding woman but …… I wanted a pink one. And he didn't Grin

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 03/03/2020 08:08

But if you can agree on then all important colour scheme, it makes perfect sense to share.

fantasmasgoria1 · 03/03/2020 08:10

We have one each but share the battery unit and swap heads whilst away to save room.

Blimey, your sex life must be fun Shock

WarIsPeace · 03/03/2020 08:20

Me and my children all have one each

But if one has no charge we put our own head on and borrow the 'body', why wouldn't you

curlsnotfrizz · 03/03/2020 08:29

I never heard of anyone sharing.

Especially when you brush the very back of the brush touches the mouth. it's a wettish bit of plastic and a breeding ground for bacteria. I think it's gross to share. It's a toothbrush. If you cannot afford 2 electronic ones, I would brush manually - but with my own!

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2020 08:34

No part of the base touches my mouth when I brush. Maybe the model I have has longer heads.

You could say the same thing about using your own toothbrush over and over again. That’s why you wash it.

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 03/03/2020 08:36

I've just bought two electric Oral B toothbrushes.
They came as a twinpack so I'm assuming a lot of people wish to have their own handle.

I don't think there's anything wrong with sharing a handle though.

Though now seeing that DH's handle is covered in dried out toothpaste dribbles, he clearly doesn't rinse it as well as I do. So maybe there is a case for separate ones?

curlsnotfrizz · 03/03/2020 08:37

it wouldn't be shared germs though. Each to their own. I find it yuk.

combatbarbie · 03/03/2020 08:39

I'd think it strange but can't argue your logic. But what if one of yous goes away for a night/weekend?

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2020 08:40

But what if one of yous goes away for a night/weekend?

That’s been asked and answered (lots).

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/03/2020 08:43

We have 2 but sharing and swapping heads wouldn't bother me or strike me as odd. I'm sure you can get a nice little stand for the heads. My toothbrush handle is clean by the way.

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/03/2020 08:44

Do the people who wouldn't share ever kiss their other half?

ShirleyPhallus · 03/03/2020 08:48

I really couldn’t be faffed with the logistics of it, especially not a family of 4 sharing one toothbrush so having to time it that two people don’t want to brush their teeth at the same time.

Mine is often in my bag - if I’m going to the gym first thing, if I am going out after work etc etc.

I find it a bit gross but not sure why but definitely a complete faff and a hassle not to just have your own. Responsible for your own charging then too!

The whole point of the colours on the heads is that you share the body and change the head, which is the work of a few seconds. Confused

Nooch · 03/03/2020 08:52

We have 4 (childrenhhave one each) but husband and I tend to share 2. We always take the heads off and I give it a wash under the tap and dry it. Don't see anything disgusting about that.

Moreisnnogedag · 03/03/2020 09:07

Why are some people not cleaning the base properly anyway?? We have one base for four of us and a little stand for the heads. It was over £100 I’m not spending that much for one each!

curlsnotfrizz · 03/03/2020 09:08

I though this is to tell brushes apart. brushes nowadays come if a few different colours but even a few years back, most oral B brushes were white. so you needed a marker.

my DC use the junior version which comes in green and purple only. not much use if you have more than 2 DC so you need the colour rings even though people have individual brushes.

RandomLondoner · 03/03/2020 09:29

I think it's a bit weird to be honest, why not just have one each and not have to faff about changing the head each time you brush your teeth? What if you both need to brush at the same time?

I have a Oral B charging station that has a tooth brush handle and a water pick and compartments to hold four heads for each.

The charger is plugged into a special bathroom razor socket, if the alternative was to have four separate chargers I don't even know how that would work, are there two-pin adaptors that would turn one socked into four, and then you'd have four wires trailing across the bathroom shelf?

As for brushing teeth at the same time as someone else, I wouldn't want to share a basin. It wouldn't actually be feasible, I need to hover over the basin the whole time I'm brushing so the basin can catch any drips.

RandomLondoner · 03/03/2020 09:31

You have to take the head off anyway when you wash it after brushing, and clicking a different head back on the next time someone brushes is less than a tenth of the effort of putting toothpaste on the brush. So the idea that there extra faff involved in changing heads is wrong.

RandomLondoner · 03/03/2020 09:38

I find the idea of two people standing side-by-side trying to share the same basin more bizarre than the idea that one would wait two minutes for the first to get there to finish. If two males in your household need to pee at the same time, in the same bathroom, do they stand either side of the toilet and take aim?
