Electric toothbrush

ivfbabymomma1 · 02/03/2020 21:58

I am aware this is a small issue and by no means the biggest problem in my life but...

I recently bought an electric toothbrush (came with 2 toothbrush heads) and it got delivered to my house whilst a friend was over. I opened the parcel and they saw it what it was and said oh is that yours or DHs?
I said it's for both, as our old one broke, we share it and have our own brush head each.

Well my friend was horrified that we share an electric toothbrush?! We only share the bit you hold and we have our own brush heads?!

Now I thought everyone did this?! Are we gross?????

My dh's toothbrush base is disgusting. No way I am sharing his base

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 02/03/2020 23:12

I'll happily let a vague acquaintance stick their fork in my food, but can't share an electric toothbrush body with DH , I realise this is entirely illogical. Although he gets foamy toothpaste everywhere when he brushes so I think it might be a him being gross thing rather than revulsion at the general concept.

ASandwichNamedKevin · 02/03/2020 23:16

Oh no, my toothbrush and base are mine alone.
Would never have occurred to me to share those, have seen toothpaste dribble down them, no thank you.

Coffeeisnecessary · 02/03/2020 23:19

This is blowing my mind! I never thought this would be something that people would find disgusting, you only share the base, with your partner who you presumably share lots more than a toothbrush handle with?!

LittleCandle · 02/03/2020 23:20

We share a toothbrush body and the heads rest on an open dish with fresh air all around. It takes a matter of seconds to remove it once I'm finished cleaning my teeth. I think people who fork out for one each are batshit crazy, but that's just my personal opinion.

TypingError · 02/03/2020 23:25

I've never heard of anyone sharing an electric toothbrush base

Nor me. Both brush twice a day, it would be on/off/on/off not counting the times you just want a quick refresh before you go out. My toothbrush is MINE

Ok guys. Bumble has explained its revolting by saying it’s revolting. We can all feel ashamed and slattern for sharing the plastic handle of something. Let’s for flog ourselves.

Meanwhile in the real world, most people remove the part that goes in your mouth (where I am sure your partners genitals have been at some point) clean it, and clean the base. So very revolting Biscuit

pigsDOfly · 02/03/2020 23:50

Do people who use ordinary plastic toothbrushes not rinse those after every use? I always did. Of course no one else was sharing it but I still made sure it wasn't covered in spit and bits of old toothpaste.

In the same way I would never leave my electric toothbrush all mucky, that's disgusting. If the base is cleaned properly between users why is it revolting? No one's suggesting you share the brush head.

BumbleBeee69 · 03/03/2020 00:12

and it's still revolting 🤢

Rebootingagain · 03/03/2020 00:19

So if it’s ok to just swap the head and not disgusting - would you buy a second hand electric toothbrush from a stranger on the basis you were goi f to put your own head on it so it doesn’t matter?

Fieldofgreycorn · 03/03/2020 00:21

Wait you put someone’s genitals in your mouth??Shock

WonderWoman36 · 03/03/2020 00:29

This has blown my mind, I never even thought of sharing the base, we all just have our own... The faff of changing the head for 5 people is just abit too much for us, rather we have each of our own...

Thedogscollar · 03/03/2020 00:33

Bumble Please elaborate exactly what is revolting? You are sharing a handle nothing else. Confused

GlamGiraffe · 03/03/2020 00:38

Normal. Friend is weird!.
Although on hols I forgot I didnt have mibecwith me and 17yr old son had his.. (17 or old boys have questionable hygiene!!)...I accidentally used his whole toothbrush.. l was horrified. I'd already used mine earlier I was having a re shine before I walked out. That was 🤢

ivfbabymomma1 · 03/03/2020 00:47

@rebootingagain okay you've got me there!

They are designed to be used like that. But I’m possessive about my belongings. So I made DP buy his own Smile

attatiti · 03/03/2020 00:52

We do only take one charger if we go away though. I’m not that possessive!

LeSquigh · 03/03/2020 00:52

I have always imagined that everyone has their own complete toothbrush. I can definitely see why you would use someone else’s base in an emergency, if your battery is flat etc. I don’t think it’s disgusting sharing a base (although my DP and kids never rinse theirs off as thoroughly as I do!) but I don’t see any reason to not just have your own. A slight financial one but they are not that expensive and if you can afford to pay for the replacement brush heads (the cheap ones are rubbish and fall apart) then you can probably afford your own base as they are always in the sale somewhere.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2020 07:39

Both brush twice a day, it would be on/off/on/off not counting the times you just want a quick refresh before you go out.

That’s how it’s designed to be used. What’s the issue? Our kettle is on/off far more times in a day.

Having brushed last night, I noticed none of the handle actually goes in my mouth. It’s only the head.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2020 07:40

I don’t see any reason to not just have your own

What’s the point? They’re designed to be shared. It’s better for the environment and a waste of money.

TypingError · 03/03/2020 07:50

where I am sure your partners genitals have been at some point

Not necessarily.

SueEllenMishke · 03/03/2020 07:53

I've never heard of this! I don't see it as an issue but it does seem a little faffy.
Mine was really cheap on Amazon prime day (£22) so it's not like it broke the bank to buy my own.

itsme · 03/03/2020 07:54

My oh and I have our own, but we've recently moved in together. But when we go away we take mine as it holds charge better and swap heads. Not weird that you share a base.

SueEllenMishke · 03/03/2020 07:56

What do you do if one of you goes away? Do you have separate travel toothbrushes?
