To suggest I'd rather he didn't shower

And blow dry his hair at 4.30am pre leaving for his flight. This is my DH leaving for a ski trip in the morning and he feels he cannot possibly get up and just sneak out whereas I know that him doing his full morning routine at that time will wake the baby and I could really do without that given i'm going to be here managing 3 children on my own for the next 4 days. I feel it's a small give on his part for family harmony whereas he cannot fathom the idea of leaving without a shower and has suggested the only alternative is him leaving tonight and staying in a hotel so he can have the shower without disturbing anyone. Who is being unreasonable?

I'd tell him to go stay in a hotel, and he can stay in the hotel when he gets back too then he can shower and blow dry to his hearts content forever more.

Selfish twat

katy1213 · 02/03/2020 22:49

Blow-drying his hair ... tell Gorgeous George to put his rollers in instead!

ladybirdees · 02/03/2020 22:51

Well it's good to know MN has my back. I've been reading these comments to my DH and I can see he's beginning to think he might be being a tad unreasonable. Or at least unreasonable enough to have now taken the hairdryer downstairs. I'd better get my head down before the salon gets going in a few hours. Ironically, I've actually booked a sitter tomorrow so I can go and get my hair done, blow dry and all! Wink

Well done OP

Jux · 02/03/2020 22:54

Couldn't he do a stand-up wash? Honestly, he's a complete diva.

Freezingold · 02/03/2020 22:55

I just do not understand what is so Eww about showing the night before? We are just sleeping! Our bodies don’t need constant showers and blow dries. Has he got a mane of hair OP? Will his hair go straight under his ski hat anyway?

So vain and so silly!

Purpleartichoke · 02/03/2020 23:04

He should shower the night before. He can go directly to skiing. Then take a shower after he skis. This isn’t difficult.

I always shower at night anyway. Who wants to get in a nice clean bed covered with the remains of the day.

Notwiththeseknees · 02/03/2020 23:06

I'm flying to Geneva tomorrow - I will be looking out for a group of men - one with a giant bouffant hairdo....

veryveryverytired · 02/03/2020 23:10

He sounds incredibly selfish

LannieDuck · 02/03/2020 23:14

His wanting to ski straight away does not trump your need for a full night’s sleep.

This

GabsAlot · 02/03/2020 23:15

He doesnt really sund lovely-before an early flight i wash the night before
My dh who gets up at 4 in the morning doesnt start showering and blow drying his bloody hair

Summergarden · 02/03/2020 23:19

Have my first ever LTB!

Inertia · 02/03/2020 23:21

@pallisers has the answer. He gets up at 2.30 am and does what the hell he likes in terms of showers and hairstyling, but he is responsible for children being asleep before he leaves the house.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2020 23:22

Why does he need to be squeeky clean when he is intending going straight out on the slopes - so he wont get a bit sweaty doing that and might want to shower after before heading to the pub or whatever?

Jeez, if my DH is on a day off or late shift and I'm up before 7 I shower quietly and then sort my hair etc downstairs. If I'm off and he's working then again, he has a quiet shower....and we don't have young DC to consider..

comesavemenow · 02/03/2020 23:22

First of all how come he is still going to skiing though with most of the people cancelling now due to the virus outbreak?

Second, it is better for him to take a shower once he gets there as plane is certainly more full of germs than his own home. Why do people take showers in the morning before going out? What is even the point of it?They should take it once they come home from outside to take off all the dust and pollution and freshen up.

TheWordmeister · 02/03/2020 23:24

My dh often gets up in the small hours to catch early flights, it wouldn’t occur to him or me to do this without a quick shower. I’d feel utterly grim.

He will however, get all of his stuff ready and out of the bedroom the night before. If hair drying is necessary OP, surely he can do it downstairs?

faracrossthepond · 02/03/2020 23:24

@ladybirdees

YANBU, and what a fortunate and privileged fecker your DH is, swanning off skiing while you look after his children!

Fuck me. Imagining a young mother of 3 children fucking off on a skiing holiday and leaving the kids wth her DH? Imagine the outrage!

I am fuming on your behalf! Hmm

longtimecomin · 02/03/2020 23:25

Yes to night before, what a pain wanting to blast the hairdryer when the baby is sleeping!

ArthurandJessie · 02/03/2020 23:27

Sorry it sounds a little petty I cant imagine telling my husband when he can and can't shower:/

RainySaturday · 02/03/2020 23:29

Hide the hairdryer.

pallisers · 02/03/2020 23:30

Sorry it sounds a little petty I cant imagine telling my husband when he can and can't shower:/

Could you imagine it if you had a baby who would wake up at 4.30 if he had a shower and blow dried his hair at that time??? Meaning you would be up and awake at 4.30 with a crying baby? That is what the OP actually said.

ddl1 · 02/03/2020 23:30

I think you would be U to prevent him from showering, especially right now when cleanliness is more important than usual, particularly when travelling. But you would not be U to suggest that blow-drying his hair is not an essential at 4;30 a.m.!

MingVase · 02/03/2020 23:30

Perhaps you might be able to imagine it, @ArthurandJessie,if you also imagined your husband going on holiday while you stayed at home looking after his children?

OP, suggest he shoves the hairdryer where the sun don’t shine. Grin

Rootd · 02/03/2020 23:35

He's either a complete arse or Autistic. My ASD kid does exactly this after a shower because all the moisture must be gone and it's his routine.

Dementedswan · 02/03/2020 23:37

I would love to see the long flowing locks that require a hairdryer. Surely as is typical of the majority of men a quick towel set will be enough? However I do have a family member that wears a hair net on his very thin hair so it days in the eight place !
