To suggest I'd rather he didn't shower

And blow dry his hair at 4.30am pre leaving for his flight. This is my DH leaving for a ski trip in the morning and he feels he cannot possibly get up and just sneak out whereas I know that him doing his full morning routine at that time will wake the baby and I could really do without that given i'm going to be here managing 3 children on my own for the next 4 days. I feel it's a small give on his part for family harmony whereas he cannot fathom the idea of leaving without a shower and has suggested the only alternative is him leaving tonight and staying in a hotel so he can have the shower without disturbing anyone. Who is being unreasonable?

Jesus wept! I thought that kind of outdated nonsense had gone with my granny’s generation. How depressing that it still exists.

nannybeach · 03/03/2020 16:12

Im not making a lot of money for the beauty industry, I get really bad hot flushes night and day, and sometimes I smell, I mostly shower with just water, because of alergies, but if I dont daily, sweat makes me sore and itchy.

Frownette · 03/03/2020 16:21

How long is he gone for? Did you manage to keep your salon appointment?

femidom12 · 03/03/2020 16:36

Frownette · 03/03/2020 16:50

He likes to be gone dry Smile

To be honest there are worse habits he could have

Frownette · 03/03/2020 16:51

ArthurandJessie · 03/03/2020 16:56

@EatDiamondsForBreakfast exactly I can't believe people get wound up over something so small must be fun to live like that .... 🙄🙄🙄

We only had a bath in our house (no shower) and the bath was in the kitchen with an mdf cover on the top, so you had to clear everything on top to use it. Sunday s were bath days and a lowly immersion!

ineedaholidaynow · 03/03/2020 20:19

MIL, who is in her 60s, talks about her childhood baths, which consisted of a tin bath which her DM had to fill with hot water and then they took it in turns to have baths. They definitely didn't have a bath everyday.

Nanny0gg · 03/03/2020 22:42

There was plenty of hot water in the 50s, 60s, 70s ...

Yes there was. For some people

But we still only had a bath once a week in the 50s and 60s. And clothes weren't washed as often (as in after one wear) as they are now.

In the 50s, underwear wasn't changed every day and men wore shirts with removable collars so they could be changed every day but the shirts worn for longer. Women wore pinnys to keep their dresses clean. Washing was hard work so no-one wanted more than necessary.

Skysblue · 03/03/2020 23:16

The blow dry is v unreasonable.

Personally I couldn’t leave the house without a shower but that’s cos I sweat (hormones 🤦‍♀️)

Send him to a hotel the night before.

Skysblue · 03/03/2020 23:18

@Nanny0gg maybe people did bathe less but they also washed their armpits more several times a day my gran did in the fifties. People didn’t just walk around stinking.
