Hello there! Would you care about what people would think if you are wearing fakes? i am an occasional replica purchaser myself, although i do have some real things, but some accessories and clothes are hugely overpriced (i feel like it is super stupid to pay £400 pounds for a gucci tshirt). I don't feel like my friends are noticing this, but still it worries me sometimes as people tend to think a lot of things. Especially if i constantly am in the environment where everyone wears real. Would you personally care about what people think? Would you continue to buy fakes?

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 02/03/2020 16:21

No I think she buys the fakes because she thinks she’s then fashionable.

Pipandmum · 02/03/2020 16:23

People who care about real stuff can usually spot a fake.
Couldn't care less what people think about what I buy. There are trends that get filtered down (and up). So you get Hermes scarf type designs at M&S etc, no one cares if they're real or not as long as they are not pretending to be real.

Sharkyfan · 02/03/2020 16:25

Don’t get why you need a designer thing/looks like designer thing anyway?
Agree it is ridiculous to pay £££ for a t shirt with Gucci on it but why would you want one? And presumably the quality of a fake is horrible anyway?

PineappleDanish · 02/03/2020 16:28

People who care about real stuff can usually spot a fake.

People who don't care usually can too. Because 99% of them are really cheap and nasty.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 02/03/2020 16:30

You sound very needy OP, as well as deluded. You sound as though you need people to notice that you can afford (fake) designer stuff. The bag you linked to is an abomination and everybody has told you that fake stuff is not replica, it’s tacky crap.

Everyone knows about fast fashion. Everyone knows about fake fashion. You’re adding to sweat shop labour. What next? Fake fillers and bum lifts.

If you can’t afford the real thing, then don’t buy anything. Most of it’s revolting anyway.

Sofonisba · 02/03/2020 16:34

The bag you linked to is an abomination

Why?

KahlanRahl · 02/03/2020 16:35

I get all of the points, but don't you feel like buying real stuff has no point as trends and fashion changes so fast?

Trenchcoats, lammy coats, duffel coats, crisp white shirts, black straight skirts, straight jeans, leather pumps, knee high leather boots, breton striped shirts and well fitting high quality cardigans have all never been out of fashion.

I could probably think of more if I had the time. Go for classic, it saves money and stops you from looking like a dumb wannabe with self esteem problems.

KellyHall · 02/03/2020 16:37

Just buy clothes you like, that suit you and make you feel good.

Don't buy illegal and often dangerous (flamable, no safety testing, etc) fakes of items you can't afford.

To anyone with a soul, labels don't matter.

Bluntness100 · 02/03/2020 16:38

bag you linked to is an abomination. Why?

Have you looked at it? If you had you’d not need to ask. It’s a very obviously cheaply and poorly made bag from China. The only reason they are getting as much as fifteen quid for it is because people will buy it as a Knock off.

don't you feel like the media (especially the bloggers and celebrities) kind of make us buy more clothes and bags and shoes in order to "fit in"

I agree that fakes are cheap and tacky. No-one forces you to buy anything and not all of us are sheep who blindly follow other people's taste. It's a bit feeble minded to only buy what other people are being paid to promote. Try being an individual with your own taste - it's far more enjoyable.

LolaSmiles · 02/03/2020 16:42

YABU
Years ago I saw something that linked fake designer gear to organised crime and from then on I can't get behind people who'd choose to prop up this market.
Plus, the clothing industry is already ethically questionable in places without buying from criminals for the sake of pretending to have money.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/03/2020 16:49

I'm not interested in/can't afford designer clothes, bags etc, but if someone offered me a £100 leather bag from John Lewis, or a knockoff designer bag for £100, I'd pick the John Lewis one. I think fakes/replicas or whatever you want to call them are the tackiest of tack. I tend to buy higher end high street stuff, and wear it with pride. The exception is perfume/makeup, and I wouldn't touch replicas with a bargepole.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/03/2020 16:55

If it's not the designer it's supposed to be then you might as well be wearing primark (nothing wrong with primark)
If you cant afford the real deal then just buy normal high st.People can tell knock offs a mile off.Id much rather save for the real stuff.

AutumnRose1 · 02/03/2020 16:56

OP “ but don't you feel like the media (especially the bloggers and celebrities) kind of make us buy more clothes and bags and shoes in order to "fit in"”

No. They don’t “kind of make us” buy anything. You’re an adult, you choose.

Fast fashion - I agree, not great. But plenty of us don’t buy that either.

whatareyoucooking · 02/03/2020 17:17

Believe me, if you're walking around with replica Chanel bags and Alexander McQueen sneakers without the logo on them nobody, I said NOBODY, is considering even for a moment that any of what you're wearing is real.

crispysausagerolls · 02/03/2020 17:17

I own a fair amount of designer bags/scarves and whatnot because I like them. If I couldn’t afford them it would never occur to me to buy a fake one! I also think fakes are extremely obvious and fairly immoral because of the conditions of those making those bags. But then I also think people think I’m insane for dropping so much money on a bag. So...difficult to judge I suppose 🤷🏻‍♀️

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 02/03/2020 17:37

When I see people wearing really obvious designer gear like those Gucci tshirts I always assume they are fakes anyway. I don’t think many people spend £400 on a tshirt and it’s so easy to buy fake stuff nowadays.

I have a few expensive Mulberry designer handbags that I use and when I see the fake ones they are really obvious! I don’t judge though, not everyone can afford to spend that kind of money but they like the “look”.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 02/03/2020 18:02

but to detect that the bag i posted is fake you really need to know the trends and last minute fashion

It’s a genuine small bag with a buckle on it.

Becclescake · 02/03/2020 18:14

I'd much rather buy from Next, New Look or Asda, wherever I find clothes I like the look of. Fake designer gear is tacky and not worth the cash, let alone the real thing.

Gwenhwyfar · 02/03/2020 18:16

I don't like any show off items, real or fake.
Those horrible brown handbags? Yuck!

FlaskMaster · 02/03/2020 18:29

Fakes might be cheap and tacky but the branded stuff is often expensive and tacky. Who cares what anyone thinks of your outfit tbh? The whole fashion industry and the whole "designer" thing is just a global game of the emperor's new clothes.

Bluntness100 · 02/03/2020 18:32

but to detect that the bag i posted is fake you really need to know the trends and last minute fashion

To be fair, this is somewhat true, although better to use the word replica.. But anyone who doesn’t know it’s a replica will just think it’s a really really cheap crap bag. That’s why it’s loose loose.

Davros · 02/03/2020 18:55

I thought that this was going to be about tits or eyelashes. [disappointed]

PanicAndRun · 02/03/2020 19:35

I had a bad fake bag from Turkey. My Primark one broke 3 days before going home and the only choices in the style i needed were expensive genuine leather ones or various very obvious fakes for 5 euros. Yeah I went for the cheap one, the least obvious attempt to look branded.

I also had a pair of fake UGGs bought by OH as a gift ,very proud of himself he got a bargain. Colour I loved, perfect fit, sturdy and feet warm, cozy and dry. Ofc I bloody wore them, it would've been a waste and bloody stupid to not wear them when they were perfectly fine boots .

Other than that I don't think I've had anything else because I'm not really a brand person.

DecemberSnow · 02/03/2020 19:39

Your friends / people in the circle will know that its fake

Cheap. Tacky. Awful
