Hello there! Would you care about what people would think if you are wearing fakes? i am an occasional replica purchaser myself, although i do have some real things, but some accessories and clothes are hugely overpriced (i feel like it is super stupid to pay £400 pounds for a gucci tshirt). I don't feel like my friends are noticing this, but still it worries me sometimes as people tend to think a lot of things. Especially if i constantly am in the environment where everyone wears real. Would you personally care about what people think? Would you continue to buy fakes?

but don't you feel like the media (especially the bloggers and celebrities) kind of make us buy more clothes and bags and shoes in order to "fit in"

I can honestly say that I have never for even a microsecond had a thought anywhere near that. Maybe I have no desire to fit in with the anyone as empty headed as to care what the media thinks of their handbag. Save yourself all that angst and buy whatever the hell you actually like

Fluffybutter · 02/03/2020 13:47

Nah, I couldn’t do this but then I’m not massively into designer stuff.
I only really buy designer accessories so bags, scarves ,glasses ...
Wouldn’t walk around in a Gucci t shirt unless it was amazing which they’re not really , it’s a t shirt ..
“Replica” is just a nice way of saying “fake” , no difference .

joffreyscoffees · 02/03/2020 13:47

I can't bare fake stuff - I don't have a lot of designer stuff (barely any in fact) but I'd rather just buy high street stuff than a fake.

MIL has various Michael Kors bags and they're horrific, not even the font is right on them.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 02/03/2020 13:48

Not if you don’t pay attention to them in the first place. I’m quite Hmm about people covering themselves in logos & brand names, high-end or not, I think it looks weird.

Although having said that I’ve got quite a lot of Adult Human Female / Hands Off My Rights stuff, but that’s definitely not what you’re talking about.

Breastfeedingworries · 02/03/2020 13:52

Just buy off shop lifter the real thing 🤣

I’d rather fund a drug habit than a massive criminal business that hurts innocents. 🤷🏼‍♀️

P.s I have a lovely real ted baker going out bag for £30 instead of 104.

Fluffybutter · 02/03/2020 13:52

And no I don’t feel the need to “keep up with celebrities” I don’t even follow any of them or care about what they wear.
Instagram is embarrassing and just for people who like to show off and get attention .
I like what I like ,regardless of what a so called famous person may also be into .

crapette · 02/03/2020 13:52

Just came on to type a reply but @coconuttelegraph has summed it up perfectly.

mnthrowaway202020 · 02/03/2020 13:53

Most fakes are obnoxious and obvious, particularly Alexander McQueen trainers. Remember that certain branded items are so common that fakes stand out like a sore thumb. I don’t own those trainers, nor much LV, but can instantly clock their fakes based on my limited experience. I would never want to embarrass myself like that! I wouldn’t even want a “good replica”.

You’re moaning about influencers “making” you buy designer items to “fit in” - but aren’t you part of the problem yourself? You’re portraying a fake image with your fake designer aren’t you? In turn you’re contributing to the same problem, as aren’t you also pressurising others to wear designer too? You’re feeding into it.

Sceptre86 · 02/03/2020 13:53

My dad gave me an fake Michael Kors bag, it was sweet in that he can't afford to get me a real one so in his eyes it was the next best thing. I have a real one given to me as a gift from dh. I have a fake Louis Vuitton scarf that my bil bought back for me from Turkey. I have given both items to my dd to use for dress up after wearing/using them once.

I have real Gucci and Prada bags which I enjoy using on special occasions and both were gifts given to me when my children were born. I wouldn't notice if you wear wearing a fake and would not judge you for it.

Sceptre86 · 02/03/2020 13:54

I can't comment on designer clothes as I dont wear them!

Hoppinggreen · 02/03/2020 13:54

I don’t buy my clothes to impress other people, I wear nice things for myself so even if other people thought I was wearing a genuine designer item and I knew it wasn’t what’s the point?
Someone asked me if my shoes were Gucci once, I said that they were from Sainsbos!

Ninkanink · 02/03/2020 13:54

Michael Kors bags look fake even when they’re not.

On bloggers/bloggers/influencers, it’s the viewer’s responsibility to remain a responsible individual and not to be taken in too much by advertising/‘must haves’/consumerist hype.

BobbyBlueCat · 02/03/2020 13:56

It's illegal.

And tacky as fuck.

inwood · 02/03/2020 13:56

By replica, you mean fake.

The conditions of manufacture will have been even worse than the original ones. I would notice, and I don't see the point, unless you're 12.

Fluffybutter · 02/03/2020 13:56

i feel like fast fashion industry itself is an orginized crime and tbh we don't know whats going on behind the closed doors
You’re talking rot now .
You’d rather buy cheap and nasty fakes because you think miss selfridge are actually a massive drug dealing gang behind the scenes ? You asked and people answered , yabu

doolally1 · 02/03/2020 13:57

Well Topshop & Zara do lots of replica designer items but are you talking about fake Gucci trainers for example? I don't see the point in buying fakes as some people will know they are fake which defeats the purpose.

Fluffybutter · 02/03/2020 13:59

@mnthrowaway202020 yep me too, especially when it comes to Alexander McQueen as that’s the only designer I actually love and have an interest in . Or his fashion house atleast , god rest his soul

fashionistatoast · 02/03/2020 14:00

@Fluffybutter i have explained that by fake i meant a product that does not include the logo but might have a similar design. but as we may all know there are a lot of issues with fast fashion itself that are far from being ethical

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 02/03/2020 14:00

You're placing a lot of value (and I don't mean money) on your clothes/bags/shoes. I know for me, I personally I don't rate myself or my friends by the labels in my/their clothes. I have occasionally brought designer items but it's basically out of my budget and I wouldn't buy a fake either, I would just get something practical or nice from a cheaper shop. But then I'm not into high fashion. Like others, if I knew you had a fake item, I would assume everything you own was a fake. I also think that people who spend a fortune on some of the fashionable things (looking at you BIL) which are in fact vile because they are fashionable, are mad!

magicfarawaytrees · 02/03/2020 14:00

Don’t ask Mumsnet this ... just don’t Grin I can guarantee many on here won’t grasp or understand why you would want to wear replicas
This is the response you will get phrased 20 different ways- “why would you, you can just buy the real thing like me and as I am just so ethically responsible and care so much about the planet and poor people I would never pay for something cheap”

Thisismytimetoshine · 02/03/2020 14:01

Do you really think your friends don’t notice? I think you’re deluded.

DropYourSword · 02/03/2020 14:02

but as we may all know there are a lot of issues with fast fashion itself that are far from being ethical

All the more reason to avoid it, or fakes of it, altogether!

doolally1 · 02/03/2020 14:03

Well most shops have a Chanel inspired handbag but I think that's different to one that pretends to be Chanel.

Fannia · 02/03/2020 14:04

Is this things like a Rolox watch and a Berkin handbag 😂

fashionistatoast · 02/03/2020 14:05

@Thisismytimetoshine well for example if you were to see me on the street how would you notice that something that i am wearing is fake? i mean if my outfit was composed well and it all looked put together
