Now they are actually testing people already ill I think we are going to hear surprising news!

Imagine all these people having to get so ill...

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 20:23

Netherlands reports first case of coronavirus t.co/eUoE2b20hL

Snowdropdelight · 27/02/2020 20:23

Good of Warren!

NcFortuna · 27/02/2020 20:23

On a more light hearted note. These proposed drive thru swab tests. Ummm, are they nasal or anal...

I’ve done a fair bit of drunken car mooning as a daft teenager, I don’t think I could manage it now.

Choux · 27/02/2020 20:24

@calmontheoutsidebut that is why I think they are suppressing the location being London. So much economic risk - Milan is deserted now apparently. Tourists and day visitors like yourself cancelling will have a massive impact on London life. And they don't have a plan to deal with the impact so will delay people finding out.

Surely it will come out on social media via word of mouth soon though?

I have to go to the wharf tomorrow- it involves three crowded rush hour trains/ tubes. I must breathe the air of 500 people in the carriages, corridors and platforms. I may get up earlier and go by bus to cross less people's paths. Am hoping we can all work from home in a few days. Our HK office is already working from home.

magicrainbowbeans · 27/02/2020 20:24

Thank you MrsMeg

meredithgrey1 · 27/02/2020 20:26

From the news that Italy are only testing people with symptoms (I guess not bothering with contacts of confirmed cases unless showing symptoms?) I assume it means they've basically given up on the "containment" stage?

FourTeaFallOut · 27/02/2020 20:26

Ummm, are they nasal or anal...

Jesus Grin There's an image.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 27/02/2020 20:31

@ofwarren I believe a small number of GPs and hospitals have been selected and are testing anyone with flu like symptoms , to get an overview of the extent of the problem.

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 20:32

First case in the Netherlands is in Tilburg, a city near the border with Belgium. The patient recently returned from Italy.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 27/02/2020 20:32

@choux. The article says buses are not good either! Taxi apparently is safest, not sure I quite believe that.

cheninblanc · 27/02/2020 20:33

Northern Ireland confirms first case. Taking uk to 16

Hugglespuffed · 27/02/2020 20:34

I'm glad to see they are starting to test people over here now.

www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-uk-deaths-nhs-intensive-care-flu-wise-men-protocol-a9361916.html

Don’t know if this has been posted but apparently the NHS is not at all prepared and if demand outstripped capacity then care would only be provided to those most likely to survive.

cardy1969 · 27/02/2020 20:41

@vivalabeaver, I work at a university too. There's lots of talk about not having any new Chinese students in September, which is a large percentage of our international students.

Quartz2208 · 27/02/2020 20:42

Thanks @ofwarren waiting for a CT scan. It’s brutal here though the worse I have seen it so it’s made me doubly scared

LittleSwede · 27/02/2020 20:43

I think sky news reported yesterday that some hospitals in the UK are going to test patients admitted with pneumonia regardless of travel history or contact with affected countries. As well as 100 GP surgeries. Sorry, don't have a link or source.

cardy1969 · 27/02/2020 20:45

My dd is planning to go travelling for a few months to SE Asia on April. I'm really worried, she's less worried. But as they isn't any advice from the FCO not to travel to any of the countries she's planning to go to, including Thailand, she won't get any refund through her insurance.

Is anybody holding off booking a holiday abroad at the moment?

EliK · 27/02/2020 20:47

Hello, just joining this thread for updates.

hoovermyrug · 27/02/2020 20:49

Does anyone know about cold sores being a symptom? I haven't had any in years and have been unwell and covered in them. Headache and feeling achy and unwell. No fever that I know of... we have been in an area where the initial outbreaks happened in the alps.

ofwarren · 27/02/2020 20:53

San Marino, one of the world's smallest countries and surrounded by Italy, reports first case of coronavirus t.co/eUoE2b20hL

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2020 20:54

Up to 655 known cases in Italy.
17 deaths. 19 critical.

Pretty obvious there are a LOT more people who have it from the numbers appearing in other countries.

byefeliciabye · 27/02/2020 20:58

@hoovermyrug I'd ring 111 if I were you. With it being a new virus, anything is possible with regards to symptoms. Better safe than sorry. Thanks

Snowdropdelight · 27/02/2020 21:00

Interesting article in mail how the Italian was a runner, passed it onto his fellow runners, pub drinkers, his wife, went to hospital they sent him home where he passed to more people, several docs.

He was still sent home, couldn't breathe and developed pnumnia.

Wouldn't test him because he'd not been to China and by chance his wife remembered he could have met with Italian college

donbelieveit · 27/02/2020 21:08

Does anyone know if there are statistics children with asthma
