What 'adult' thing have you never done?

I have reached the grand old age of 53 and have never booked a holiday abroad. I wouldn't even know where to start! and I fancy a holiday but don't know how to do it Holidays have always been in the UK, camping when the DC were young and caravanning for the last 12 years. My last foreign trip was when I was 19 and DM booked it. I just had to give her the money for it.

OP posts:
Doilooklikeatourist · 23/02/2020 21:20

I’ve never ...
Read any of the 50 shades books or seen any of the films
Been on a Hen Party ( apart from my own , which was dinner and drinks with 3 friends )
Never driven on the M25 ( I live in Wales though , and DH likes driving on motorways , I don’t like driving )

MadameMeursault · 23/02/2020 21:20

I did everything for my elderly mum’s recent house move. On that day I finally became an adult. I’m 53 too.

SluggishSnail · 23/02/2020 21:20

OP, where would you like to go on holiday, or what sort of holiday?
I'm sure you will get lots of help on this thread!

Bluerussian · 23/02/2020 21:20

Never been a stripper. Bit late now.

OpportunityKnocks · 23/02/2020 21:21

Until last week, I'd never 'gathered' a curtain before. That made me think that perhaps I'm finally an adult.

I can see now, that I'm wrong! I've done all the above aside from gutting anything and changing a tyre.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 23/02/2020 21:22

I still haven’t learned to drive (now aged 43).

MadameMeursault · 23/02/2020 21:22

Oh hang on, I answered that a bit wrong.

I have rarely eaten a sandwich without eating the crust first or a cherry bakewell without eating the pastry first! Worst thing has to get eaten first!

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 23/02/2020 21:23

Never squeezed a spot or a blackhead. Not saying I didn’t have them but I could never work out how to do it so I didn’t bother. Always felt a bit like it was a rite of passage I’d missed out on...

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/02/2020 21:23

I have done everything on this thread other than cooking a lobster or having a baby. I’m amazed at some of the ordinary things that some adults have never done though. Putting petrol in the car? Mowing the lawn? How would some women cope if they didn’t have husbands or partners?

Aridane · 23/02/2020 21:23

@aLilNonnyMouse

Are you OK? That list doesn’t sound good

MikeFromSpaced · 23/02/2020 21:24

I’ve not yet learnt to drive. I’m 47 this year.

ShoppingBasket · 23/02/2020 21:26

Sewed a button

OublietteBravo · 23/02/2020 21:26

But not everyone has a lawn or a car. It’s fairly common to have neither if you live in London.

upaladderagain · 23/02/2020 21:26

Been waxed
Ridden a motorbike
Had a threesome
Taken drugs
Plucked my eyebrows

JontyDoggle37 · 23/02/2020 21:26

@Theroigne I’ve found my people! 😁
Also to add, I HAVE:
-cleaned an oven

  • had a massage, a pedicure and a manicure
  • been to a hen night, music festival and a live concert
  • been on a blind date
  • has a good be night stand
  • done DIY, everything from building shelves to changing the oil on my car (love you Dad, for teaching me how to be an independent female driver)
  • have wallpapered, painted and sanded (and then pulled the one inch splinter out of my thumb without fainting)
  • have boxed and coached a female boxing group
HOWEVER, the thing that has made me feel the most adult is deciding NOT to do something...we’re just about to buy a new house and the plan was to launch headlong into a 9-month rebuild, but I’ve put my foot down and said we’ll move in first and extend in a year because now is too stressful. First time EVER that I’ve felt like an adult Grin
underneaththeash · 23/02/2020 21:27

I've done everything listed above!
Some people live very sheltered lives.....I can't think of many legal things I haven't done - maybe skiing a black run or jumping out of a plane?

Leflic · 23/02/2020 21:30

Saw my first dead body and freaked out ( didn’t actually go hear it). I think I will be a proper adult when I can actually look at a dead body properly.
I am fine with dead or dying animals, can put them at ease and can put them out of their suffering if needed.
People. No way. Hats off to care assistants and medical staff.

I've never hosted not attended a dinner party. Like I have people round for tea bit its not all come dine with me 3 courses and wine formal affair.

I've never been married.
I've never had a credit card or loan that wasnt a student loan or mortgage.

Kayemm · 23/02/2020 21:32

I have never drunk a cup of tea or watched a David Attenborough programme.

I felt quite out of it on the thread where everyone was dreading his death.

I was also 36 before I went on a train or in a cafe on my own.

FloraGreysteel · 23/02/2020 21:32

Learned to drive, got married, had a baby. I have bought a house, started a successful company, and gone through the menopause though!

BigGreenOlives · 23/02/2020 21:32

I’ve never used a vibrator. (Lowers tone & leaves room). I’ve cooked a live lobster, scuba dived, changed car tyres, cut the grass, bought houses etc. I haven’t read any of the 50 shades books.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/02/2020 21:36

Ordered a takeaway,
Had a baby
Got married

damnthatanxiety · 23/02/2020 21:37

How have people functioned without a credit card? How do you shop? Surely not everything is bought on debit card? It is generally better value to shop with a credit card as long as you pay it off monthly - and you get offers and deals, not to mention the protection you get from purchases gone wrong.

timetest · 23/02/2020 21:39

Changed a tyre
Changed a light bulb
Put up wallpaper
Unblocked a sink
Eaten marmalade
Drunk green tea
Eaten at a McDonald’s restaurant
