What 'adult' thing have you never done?

I have reached the grand old age of 53 and have never booked a holiday abroad. I wouldn't even know where to start! and I fancy a holiday but don't know how to do it Holidays have always been in the UK, camping when the DC were young and caravanning for the last 12 years. My last foreign trip was when I was 19 and DM booked it. I just had to give her the money for it.

Wow Artemis, who pays your bills? If you have a good income don’t you think you should be sharing that with whoever pays the bills?

Vulpine · 25/02/2020 08:50

Is it the husbands putting the bins out?

Theroigne · 25/02/2020 09:45

I have never lit a match or used a lighter (and I'm nearly 40)

eenymeenyminyme · 25/02/2020 10:04

If you have never taken the bins out how do they get out???

I'm still stumped at this one - how can anyone not have ever taken a bin out???

Barney60 · 25/02/2020 11:23

My dad and my fiancé do. They both know I work, I'm not keeping the fact that I have an income a secret from them at all Grin They are the ones that want to pay, so I let them.

ineedaholidaynow · 25/02/2020 11:42

Were you born in the 1950s Artemis? Do you have no sense of pride? I would understand if you were a SAHM but you are not as previous post says you have no kids. Why do you let males pay your bills?

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 25/02/2020 11:44

Drank a cup of tea or coffee

bluete · 25/02/2020 11:45

You are paying. Just not financially.

IronShame · 25/02/2020 11:51

I can't imagine earning a 'good income' and then letting my parents and fiance pay all my bills. How selfish.

IronShame · 25/02/2020 11:52

Fiance I get more actually because who knows, he might earn triple than you. But your dad? You let your dad pay your bills when you earn a decent wage?

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 11:53

What has year of birth and pride got to do with anything? We are all free to live our lives as we choose.

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 11:58

What am I paying with? Grin

What's wrong with being selfish? If you are not taking advantage of someone or making people do things they don't want to do, what's wrong with looking out for yourself first?

Fiance I get more actually because who knows, he might earn triple than you. But your dad? You let your dad pay your bills when you earn a decent wage?
Yeah. I obviously wouldn't do it if my dad didn't have the means, but he does. So why not?

IronShame · 25/02/2020 12:00

I honestly can't imagine my dad saying 'ill pay your bills for you' and me, an adult with a good income, actually letting him, whether he had money or not. Just because someone offers doesn't mean you should take them up on it.

So why not?

Because you're a grown woman and your dad shouldn't be there just to finance you for the rest of his life.

Don't you feel any shame that you are leeching off other people whilst keeping everything you earn to yourself?

I honestly could not do that without feeling guilty, I'm surprised that you don't.

You sound incredibly selfish. It's not a trait to be proud of.

LeavingTheTable · 25/02/2020 12:01

@ScarlettBlaize, I read that last post of yours with an ominous sound track of chiming bells and double bass, as in this Vertigo clip at about 2:07. m.youtube.com/watch?v=bDwPJ5IaJ2g

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 25/02/2020 12:03

I'd be absolutely mortified if my parents paid my bills

IronShame · 25/02/2020 12:06

And yes, yes you absolutely are taking advantage.

needadvicethankyouplease · 25/02/2020 12:08

This has made me sad. It seems I'm a fully fledged adult, I've done all these things!

mencken · 25/02/2020 12:13

changed a nappy (no kids of course)
worn ridiculous high heels
worried about colour of clothes
worried about going out without makeup
cut my hair short after 50

generally I make like a bloke, it is much easier.

but I agree, those who think it is feminine not to be able to manage basic finance (and those who drive but can't do basic car maintenance) need to give themselves a good slap.
