What 'adult' thing have you never done?

I have reached the grand old age of 53 and have never booked a holiday abroad. I wouldn't even know where to start! and I fancy a holiday but don't know how to do it Holidays have always been in the UK, camping when the DC were young and caravanning for the last 12 years. My last foreign trip was when I was 19 and DM booked it. I just had to give her the money for it.

I must admit I look at my DM's flat (and her houses before that) and think that it was aspire too, but have never achieved the look. MIL's house is too minimalist for my liking but DM's flat within a couple of days of moving in looked like a 'home'. One day I will get there.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 24/02/2020 21:57

I was going to say never been to IKEA but someone else got there first!

ineedaholidaynow · 24/02/2020 22:03

LoveBeing I've never been to Ikea either. Maybe that's why my house doesn't look like a home!

ThankYouStavros · 24/02/2020 22:07

Put the bins out.

supercee · 24/02/2020 22:12

Got married
Had a baby
Been on holiday or a weekend away with a partner
Been to Ibiza
Watched It's a wonderful life
I'm 38.

Whathewhatnow · 24/02/2020 22:22

Having said all this I 've also never..

Been married or civil partnered
Been arrested or charged.
Been on a hen weekend
Had a true one-night stand
Contracted an STD
Had a whole year without drinking alcohol, post age 14.
Felt anything vaguely religious
Made a good, original piece of art, music or writing.

Many of these make me feel sad Hmm

Whathewhatnow · 24/02/2020 22:24

Obviously not the not having an STD or being arrested. Those things are not marks of having made it as an adult :)

Catapillarsruletheworld · 24/02/2020 22:28

I’ve never had my nails done.
Never had anything waxed.
Never flown long haul.
Never been married (though we’ve been together 17 years, why spoil it by getting married).

firstimemamma · 24/02/2020 22:41

'Never put the bins out' and 'never had a cup of tea'... I just can't understand!

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 24/02/2020 22:47

I think the cup of tea thing is fine

My 21, 18 and 16 year old have never had a cup of tea

Its not outside the bounds of possibility that they may never have a cup Of tea or coffee

I hadn’t drunk a coffee til i was in my 40’s

I often feel like some weird teen inside a grown woman’s body 😂I have a child, a mortgage, bills and all the trappings of all that responsibility but still feel odd with certain grown up things..dinner parties, discussing wills and pensions, having drinks and nibbles..eurgh

Tigresswoods · 24/02/2020 22:58

If you have never taken the bins out how do they get out???

Catapillarsruletheworld · 24/02/2020 23:02

'Never put the bins out' and 'never had a cup of tea'... I just can't understand!

Tea is pretty gross so I totally get that. But how has anyone got away with never putting the bins out?

Whoops75 · 24/02/2020 23:18

I’ve never had a bedroom of my own.
Always shared , siblings, boarding school and dh.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 24/02/2020 23:50

Never been for a spa day or afternoon tea. Never had a career just job that fits in around kids. Never not been in debt or had any savings. Never had a new car.

Shanster · 24/02/2020 23:58

I’ve been driving for 23 years and have never been done for speeding/been in an accident that was my fault/had any kind of points. I have been pulled over several times but somehow talked my way out of it.

I’d never been to a funeral until recently but sadly that’s an adult milestone I can claim now

ineedaholidaynow · 25/02/2020 00:43

I don’t think many people on here have housekeepers!

SimplySteveRedux · 25/02/2020 01:00

Tried blue cheese

Pickytraveller1964 · 25/02/2020 05:11

I’ve done pretty much everything listed but I have never made a cup of coffee.

Ithinkitcouldbeme · 25/02/2020 05:13
  • mowed a lawn
  • had a baby
  • had any ‘intimate’ waxing done
  • been a bridesmaid
  • been on a hen do
  • been on a girly holiday
  • been on a spa day
ivykaty44 · 25/02/2020 05:39

Not been on a plane on my own either

Is this really travelled solo? Rather than flown a plane solo?

expatinspain · 25/02/2020 06:47

Learned to drive.
Bought a house.

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 25/02/2020 07:02

It's bad enough when your DH gets sick or worst, if you can't take over the house yourself, you are putting yourself in a desperate situation.
Just because a person doesn't pay bills doesn't mean they are in a desperate situation. I have a great job and have a good income, so I'm not in a "desperate situation" at all. I just have people in my life that pay my bills for me, so I get to keep everything I earn to myself.
