I was woken up at 0645 on a SATURDAY morning by someone messaging a WhatsApp group. Nothing important or time sensitive, they said themselves they were lying awake thinking, now I'm lying awake pissed off that my sleep has been interrupted for no reason.

Why don't you have your phone on do not disturb?

CodenameVillanelle · 22/02/2020 07:23

Sort out your phone settings so that Whatsapp doesn't make a noise, or turn your phone on silent. I can't believe anyone in 2020 has loud notifications on their phone anyway.

Rio5555 · 22/02/2020 07:24

I think YABU. It’s up to you to have your phone on silent/do not disturb.

Bitofnamechanging · 22/02/2020 07:24

Imo messages are not time sensitive. Message when it's convenient. Me and my friends are currently chatting in a group as we have all been up with small children since 5. Put your phone on silent

RedIsWhereItsAt · 22/02/2020 07:24

Silence your phone. The alarm will still work.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/02/2020 07:25

I thought all sensible people used do not disturb

YABU. I'm in several WhatsApp groups and people send messages all times of the day and night depending on what they're doing. I just don't have sound turned on!

RippleEffects · 22/02/2020 07:25

My phone is set up that it makes no sounds between 10pm and 8am. Use the extra awake time to find your settings so this doesn't happen again.

GinDaddy · 22/02/2020 07:25

It's up to you to put your phone settings on the correct profile.

How do you think night shift workers keep up with 9-5 people when they're on shared WhatsApp groups?

YABU

Magenta82 · 22/02/2020 07:26

There are people who need to get hold of me urgently, I cant have my phone on silent as they wouldn't be able to get through. How had is it to not message people with your random musings until a more reasonable time?

OP posts:
HomeMadeMadness · 22/02/2020 07:26

The point of messages is they can be sent and read and replied to whenever. It's your responsibility to have your phone (or at least WhatsApp groups) on mute.

TeddyIsaHe · 22/02/2020 07:27

You can choose who can send message/call when the phone is on do not disturb.

Doggybiccys · 22/02/2020 07:27

My DH always moans about this too and I ask him why he doesn’t just put on ‘do not disturb’ or flight mode. Often it’s random text from the bank, phone company etc. I’m baffled why people don’t do this then moan they got disturbed!!

Hellohello2020 · 22/02/2020 07:27

Opps, I just.sent a WhatsApp just a boring comment on my daughters breakfast. I don't have my phone in my bedroom

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 07:27

Put Do not disturb on your phone.

We have a family WhatsApp group with usually the first one pinging at 4am as we are all in different time zones.

Last one usually UK at 1am if someone has had a night out & wants to share photos.

Do not disturb is essential otherwise we’d never sleep.

HomeMadeMadness · 22/02/2020 07:27

If someone needed you in an emergency they would call! They wouldn't send a group WhatsApp! Just mute group what's apps!

orangejuicer · 22/02/2020 07:27

Why don't you just change your notifications settings, phone can stat on loud. Simple.

elQuintoConyo · 22/02/2020 07:27

My phone is on flight mode at night, the alarm still works, people can still ring me in an emergency.

Ta-da!

orangejuicer · 22/02/2020 07:28

Oh and YABU - 6.45 is a lie-in!! Grin

Voxx · 22/02/2020 07:28

Just put it on do not disturb. I don’t know about Android but if you have an iPhone, you can set it up to allow calls through from certain numbers.

TW2013 · 22/02/2020 07:28

You can have the phone on silent except for a few numbers. Just ask important people to ring you if they need to reach you urgently and put WhatsApp on silent.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 07:28

I have important people as favourites- their phone calls or messages will still come through.

PickleThePenguin · 22/02/2020 07:29

Put on DND, you can allow important people's messages through and the rest will be silenced

heartsonacake · 22/02/2020 07:29

YABU. The onus is on you to sort out your phone settings.

If you need certain people to be able to get hold of you, that’s fine, that’s doable. You put your phone on Do Not Disturb and then give those select contacts an emergency bypass so they can still reach you.

And voila, important people can get through and notifications don’t wake you up.
