I was woken up at 0645 on a SATURDAY morning by someone messaging a WhatsApp group. Nothing important or time sensitive, they said themselves they were lying awake thinking, now I'm lying awake pissed off that my sleep has been interrupted for no reason.

OP posts:

I agree YABU. As other people have said it is easy to adjust your phone settings.

gingersausage · 22/02/2020 07:51

I love how the OP has now disappeared having been given 30 lessons in how to use her phone properly 🤣

PleasantVille · 22/02/2020 07:52

Not this thread again!

Dont be so precious and turn off your notifications, the technology exists to remove this in a couple of clicks, you are the unreasonable person not to use it.

gingersausage · 22/02/2020 07:52

*50

MuscatelGrapes · 22/02/2020 07:53

Learn how to use your phone, OP.

MissBax · 22/02/2020 07:54

Put your phone on DND, obvs!

pilates · 22/02/2020 07:55

YABU
Alter your settings

inwood · 22/02/2020 07:59

Yabu

Easy enough to sort your settings so important numbers can still get through

pussycatinboots · 22/02/2020 08:06

6.45??
YABVVU
that's a lie in here too!

joffreyscoffees · 22/02/2020 08:07

I think nothing of sending or receiving messages any time of day or night. If people don't want to be disturbed then their phone should be set as such.

If you have people who need to reach you then you should be able to add them to list where it rings regardless of what setting your phone is on, if it's their number.

joffreyscoffees · 22/02/2020 08:08

6.45 also sounds wonderful. 5.30 my 'alarm' went off this morning.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 08:09

To be fair dh didn’t know about DND function either till I explained to him a couple of weeks ago. So perhaps op didn’t know either.

OverByYer · 22/02/2020 08:10

That’s why I use What’s App rather than text because you can message whenever you like, safe in the knowledge that most sensible people have their notifications off at night Hmm

CalamityJune · 22/02/2020 08:12

It takes seconds to set up Do Not Disturb between certain hours so YABU. You can exempt certain contacts from it so that their messages will always alert.

I have it set to still alert for calls as well as I figured a phone call in the middle of the night will be important.

Marmite27 · 22/02/2020 08:13

Put it on mute!

damnthatanxiety · 22/02/2020 08:14

OP. I think the message is clear. Mute, use Do Not Disturb, whatever. It's your job to deal with your end of the conversation. People can message when they want.

SoupDragon · 22/02/2020 08:17

You definitely need to learn how to use your phone better.

megletthesecond · 22/02/2020 08:20

Can't you turn your phone off?
I still have a landline so anything urgent would come through that.

elc19 · 22/02/2020 08:21

Just turn off WhatsApp sounds in your settings, everything else will still work loud such as calls or texts if you're worried about emergencies

SueEllenMishke · 22/02/2020 08:22

Put your do not disturb on but select the numbers that can still contact you.

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2020 08:23

I've recently turned off the donor disturb on my phone as I might need to be contacted in the night, but I've kept my WhatsApp settings so I don't get notifications from group chats. There was one very large group chat where someone had a strop because her DD was woken by her phone due to late night messages. Everything went quite for a while, then someone very kindly and gently tried to explain WhatsApp has notification settings.

I get more annoyed with my DM phong me in the house phone after I'm in bed. I have to answer it in case it's one of my teens who has lost their phone and can only remember our home number and need me NOW. But no, my DM just wants to mention something which could have waited.

bugbhaer · 22/02/2020 08:24

I sense that a massive made up drip-feed is on its way.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/02/2020 08:24

Grin lol @gingersausage

Ohtherewearethen · 22/02/2020 08:25

How had is it to not message people with your random musings until a more reasonable time?

About as hard as it is to change the settings on your phone and take responsibility yourself, clearly. The world doesn't revolve around you. People send messages when it is convenient for them. You read and reply to then when it is convenient for you. That's why messaging is so popular now and phonecalls less so.

GinDrinker00 · 22/02/2020 08:25

Mute the chat? It’s not hard. a YABU.
