If you know you snore, don't sleep on a coach?

I might be being unreasonable.

Just got back from a three hour coach journey. A guy to the left of me was snoring the WHOLE way. It was one of those horrible snores, it made me feel quite sick 🤮. His wife didn't say anything or nudge him.

I know he could well have had health issues that make him snore. But Aibu to think that ypu shouldn't plan on sleeping in a small space if you snore that loud. Or whoever your with should wake you? I'm pretty sure that this was their only travel today and they arnt jet lagged or anything.

I may be being precious!

He might not have planned on sleeping. I fall asleep really quickly in any vehicle I'm not driving, especially if I was already tired. I don't think I've ever arrived home awake in a taxi Blush

user1483387154 · 21/02/2020 19:26

yabu. no one who snores does it on purpose

sazapple · 21/02/2020 19:26

He seemed like he was planning on sleeping! He even woke himself up a few times with a massive snore and a grunt Blush but maybe your right.
But in that case, wouldn't the person your with say' Dave mate, your annoying the whole coach'

You’re being precious.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 21/02/2020 19:27

It was only three hours...

I don’t snore and I can’t sleep on any type of moving vehicle, but man I admire those who can.

Lidon · 21/02/2020 19:28

Yabu, he may have had a medical condition like me. I have sleep apnea, and if I'm a passenger in a moving vehicle, I physically can't stop myself falling asleep. Without using a cpap machine I snore horrendously.

Serenschintte · 21/02/2020 19:30

Any long journeys - public transport, planes etc I now always take ear plugs and earphones.
Then you can block the unwanted noises out. It’s a sanity saver. I never never travel without them now

handbagsatdawn33 · 21/02/2020 19:31

Sounds like Apnoea.

Just be grateful it was only 3 hours - think of his poor wife, LOL!

TheGinGenie · 21/02/2020 19:32

Maybe he lives alone and doesn't know how much he snores?

TheBigFatMermaid · 21/02/2020 19:32

Sleep apnoea is dreadful for leaving people feeling tired. If he has this (possible given your description of the snores) he will fall asleep without being able to help it.

sazapple · 21/02/2020 19:32

Maybe his wife has gotten used to it 🤣 ear plugs are coming with me next time! I'll accept I'm being unreasonable then. But it did really make me feel sick

I snore and am very self conscious about it. I try not to sleep in public but fall asleep very easily. I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose so YABU.

fluffedupferretonsteroids · 21/02/2020 19:51

I snore really bad, I wouldn't be able to force myself awake and if I'm in a vehicle for that long I definitely will be falling asleep.

Elouera · 21/02/2020 19:55

This sounds like my husband. Its called 'sleep apnoea' and is a dangerous medical condition. He will literally fall asleep within seconds of hitting the bed, sitting in a car, on a place etc. The snoring, grunting and then gasping is due to lack of oxygen getting to the brain- and can lead to heart attacks, strokes etc!

My husband doesn't 'plan' to sleep on a plane/in a bus. He may have slept all night, then sit on a plane and in seconds is snoring. He has awoken himself from the noise! Same as if I was making a racket and annoying other passengers, I'd give him a nudge if he was being really loud. I'm surprised his wife let the noise carry on for 3hrs, but maybe she is now deaf to it? I personally find it inconsiderate though and might have 'bumped' the back of his chair myself!

JRUIN · 21/02/2020 20:03

The sound of snoring made you feel sick? You are being precious. Bring earphones next time.

sazapple · 21/02/2020 20:06

The sound of the noises in his throat and his nose made me feel very sick. I do have a weak stomach. Not dramatically so. But yes the snoring from a man I didn't know sitting a foot and a half away from me, made me feel ill. I've gathered now that I was unreasonable to expect him not to sleep on a coach, but I'm most certainly not unreasonable to have felt sick 🤣

PooWillyBumBum · 21/02/2020 20:10

I agree. If it were my husband I’d have woken him. Grim.

LynetteScavo · 21/02/2020 20:10

Well if you're really tired it's difficult not to fall asleep.

His wife should have out in in a quieter position though. And you should have asked her to move his head so he wasn't snoring.
Grin

HavelockVetinari · 21/02/2020 20:20

If it was a red-eye or sleeper coach then YANBU at all, chronic snorers should realise their impact on others (and wear a mouth guard! Uncomfortable for them but of they're THAT tired they'll sleep regardless).

If it was during the daytime then it's hard to say - I can't believe his wife didn't wake him though, was she not mortified?

NurseButtercup · 21/02/2020 20:26

Yabu for travelling on the coach for 3hours without noise cancelling earphones.

TinyGhostWriter · 21/02/2020 20:31

Sorry, but you are being precious.

Yanbu not to have like the noise, but on public transport there will be other people in close proximity to you.

Eating loudly is inconsiderate.

Listening to music without headphones is inconsiderate.
Having a loud phone conversation is inconsiderate.

List could go on..

But people have control over those things.

Snoring? People can’t control that.

Purpleartichoke · 21/02/2020 20:45

I recommend noise cancelling headphones in the future

FruityWidow · 21/02/2020 20:46

Get some ear plugs

KatherineJaneway · 21/02/2020 20:49

Why would he care? Wife clearly doesn't give a shit nor does he for anyone else around him.

Okbutno · 21/02/2020 20:50

Do you not have headphones? Yabu, no one snores on purpose?
