If you know you snore, don't sleep on a coach?

I might be being unreasonable.

Just got back from a three hour coach journey. A guy to the left of me was snoring the WHOLE way. It was one of those horrible snores, it made me feel quite sick 🤮. His wife didn't say anything or nudge him.

I know he could well have had health issues that make him snore. But Aibu to think that ypu shouldn't plan on sleeping in a small space if you snore that loud. Or whoever your with should wake you? I'm pretty sure that this was their only travel today and they arnt jet lagged or anything.

I may be being precious!

I’m going against the grain and saying YANBU! There are two things I hate, noisy eaters and snorers. As soon as I hear it it makes me angry instantly. I think I’d have woken him myself Grin

Cremebrule · 22/02/2020 06:50

You’re not unreasonable. It sounds like he has sleep apnea and anyone that has lived with someone with it knows that sometimes it just gives you the rage. I’d have woken up my husband if he was snoring like that/ it’s not fair.

BorneoBabe · 22/02/2020 07:07

YANBU. It's rude to make noise that disturbs others in such an enclosed space if it can be avoided. LOL at posters saying he can't control it. 25-hr flight to Oz? Okay, we're all drooling, disgusting fart machines and some annoyances are going to slip out. But he can control staying awake for three measly hours on a bus.

sazapple · 22/02/2020 08:58

Thanks guys. Some people are not rude, others are I guess. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that sometimes you should think of others around you before subjecting them to your extremely noises snores. I hope he had trouble sleeping last night Cos of his long loud nap 🤣

letsghostdance · 22/02/2020 09:00

I snore. I can't control it and it isn't my fault. If I need to sleep I'm going to sleep, just like anyone else would.

sazapple · 22/02/2020 09:02

You wouldn't have needed to sleep on a three hour daytime journey though

I think taking headphones on a coach, train or plane is standard. So maybe that's a tip for next time. There's every need to get over yourself as you sound very dramatic about how sick you felt. Also although many people are telling you Yabu you can't accept this, why bother posting?

redwoodmazza · 22/02/2020 09:18

I would have hated that too, OP.
I often have to travel abroad by plane. It's only a 2.5 hour journey. Sometimes it's a late flight and I get worried that I'll fall asleep and then do one of those snores that wakes me up!!! (Confession - I already have a couple of times Blush)
No-one remembers at the end of the flight though.

sazapple · 22/02/2020 09:22

Many, many people have told me I am not being unreasonable though?

And again, how am I in the wrong for feeling sick. But he's in his rights to snore? Me feeling sick wasn't bothering anyone, and also very couldn't be helped. Just like the snoring man! It's quite hypocritical.

When everyone told me I was being unreasonable at the beginning of the thread I though 'ok fair enough. Clearly no one else on the bus thought him or his wife was being rude' and the problem was all mine.

But now reading the following comments, most agree with me. I guess the snorers will say I'm being unreasonable.

Oh and headphones are coming with me next time. I don't particularly like listening to music while travelling, id rather read. Also it pays to add I've NEVER in my almost thirty years been in a coach/plane/car/train where someone has snored. But in case I'm subjected to it again, I'll have my earphones

Yabu, people snore, it's natural.

Mydogatemypurse · 22/02/2020 09:24

I would have been very irritated by this. Agree on the earplugs for travelling.

yellowallpaper · 22/02/2020 09:25

Some snorers sound awful, like they're drowning in their own secretions. Awful

lostinleaves · 22/02/2020 09:26

But yes the snoring from a man I didn't know sitting a foot and a half away from me, made me feel ill

So why don't you get headphones or earplugs ? Yabu given that you know how sensitive you are.

NoSauce · 22/02/2020 09:27

Yanbu OP. That would have drove me potty.

OssomMummy1 · 22/02/2020 09:27

That is called SLEEP APNOEA. They cant sleep flat on their back. If they do, their tongue falls backwards, obstructing their breathing completely. When brain oxygen levels drop, it wakes them up from sleep and the first thing they do is pull their tongue forwards so that they can have a GASP of breath. That produces grunting. Snoring on not in their control but cause like enlarged tonsils, obesity are in their control

Surfer25 · 22/02/2020 09:29

It does depend on the background

I feel annoyed with a friend for her snoring. It is like a bull dozer.

Here's the thing:

  1. She is very overweight - size 24
  2. It has affected her health as she now has sleep apnea and she has been told to lose weight as it will improve the symptoms - she can't be bothered
  3. She was given a sleep apnea mask- she doesn't like it.

So because the sleep she gets is poor quality she falls asleep all the time. We can't go anywhere

Exactly the same scenario happened last time we went away- she spent the whole minibus ride sleeping and the snoring was awful

She slept every day on the tour bus ...she missed some amazing views

She slept all the way home in the coach.

It was bloody annoying to have to listen to her.

If you can't stay awake in a coach when you aren't jet lagged or otherwise - stay home, it is so disruptive to others

sazapple · 22/02/2020 09:29

I WILL get earphones. I havnt needed them before now as no-one has made me feel sick on a bus? That's why I didn't have earphones. Babies crying, loud phone calls ect have never bothered me before

OP posts:
FlamingoAndJohn · 22/02/2020 09:44

Ah so all snorers should stay at home just in case they fall asleep and someone ‘feels sick’ because they can’t cope with someone making a noise.

sazapple · 22/02/2020 09:44

@FlamingoAndJohn good idea! Hmm no where on this post have I suggested that.

How ridiculous, people don't shut themselves away and not enjoy life because they can't stay awake if they are tired on a journey. You don't know why they are tired, it could be no sleep due to stress or anything, if I went on a coach now I'd be asleep as I've been awake for 28 hours.

Supertrooper98 · 22/02/2020 10:10

YABU

FlamingoAndJohn · 22/02/2020 10:14

You didn’t but another poster said this: If you can't stay awake in a coach when you aren't jet lagged or otherwise - stay home, it is so disruptive to others.

It’s not all about you you know.

Surfer25 · 22/02/2020 10:20

Nor is it all about the person with their ugly gob hanging open snoring like a bulldozer for hours

sazapple · 22/02/2020 10:21

@FlamingoAndJohn if you use the @ button and then type their name, you can direct messages to who your talking to, just in case there is confusion.

I find earphones and music/podcasts/audiobooks indispensable for all public transport.
