If you know you snore, don't sleep on a coach?

I might be being unreasonable.

Just got back from a three hour coach journey. A guy to the left of me was snoring the WHOLE way. It was one of those horrible snores, it made me feel quite sick 🤮. His wife didn't say anything or nudge him.

I know he could well have had health issues that make him snore. But Aibu to think that ypu shouldn't plan on sleeping in a small space if you snore that loud. Or whoever your with should wake you? I'm pretty sure that this was their only travel today and they arnt jet lagged or anything.

I may be being precious!

Also you're being massively fucking precious in saying it made you feel sick! Get over yourself!

TokenGinger · 21/02/2020 20:52

I get terrible travel sickness. I combat it by sleeping when travelling. I'd rather annoy somebody with my snoring (though I don't snore) than annoy them by puking for 3 hours.

Bathroom12345 · 21/02/2020 20:55

I find in life people don’t seem to care whether they snore or not and who it disturbs. They claim they cannot help it but do they do anything about it, lose weight, don’t drink so much or even sleep on the sofa.

You only have to look at all the threads from people, living with snorers. They are the ones camping on a sofa or sleeping in a child’s bed. The snorer just carries on regardless.

sazapple · 21/02/2020 21:46

No @Okbutno I don't have headphones. I'm not being precious about feeling sick, so no need to 'get over myself' there. I accept the that I'm precious of expecting someone not to snore on a bus though.

I love how I'm being unreasonable for my own body involuntarily doing something. Which didn't cause anyone any annoyance or discomfort. But the snoring guy was just living his life. Mad

@sazapple

WOW! Shock

A whole THREE hour coach journey.

You poor lambkin. How DID you cope?! Hmm

sazapple · 21/02/2020 21:57

Huh @anotherlittlechicken? The length of the coach journey wasn't the issue. A man snoring and spluttering over my shoulder was the issue.

Puddlesplasher · 21/02/2020 21:59

He can't help it if he snores!

ohnooutofdateham · 21/02/2020 22:04

Yanbu.

My brother snores and the last flight we took together he asked me to nudge him if he fell asleep and started snoring. Because he's not selfish

PennyGold · 21/02/2020 22:38

YANBU if that were me and i hardly brought headphones I think it'd have drove me insane.
I think it's rude.

QueenArseClangers · 21/02/2020 23:15

YANBU OP. I can understand the throat gurgling horrid noise too as my DH does it and it makes me want to peel my face off.

LizzieVereker · 21/02/2020 23:31

YABU. I know it’s not fery nice, but people can’t help snoring, just as they can’t help coughing or sneezing.

PenelopeFlintstone · 21/02/2020 23:33

Yanbu. His wife should’ve elbowed him in the ribs every time he started.

pooriver · 21/02/2020 23:33

YANBU. it's normally overweight men who do it. Gross and inconsiderate. There are few people I actively hate in this world. Public snorers are part of that demographic. Entitled. Selfish. Disgusting.

Savingshoes · 21/02/2020 23:53

Yanbu, noise pollution is noise pollution.

If he'd been on his phone speaking or watching a film as loudly as he snored for those hours, people would complain.

You paid for a coach journey and suffered from that noise.

theneighbourswindchime · 22/02/2020 00:00

I'm probably the only one to agree with you OP but I'd be gutted too.
I have audio sensitivity and guttural snoring is high up there on my list of awful sounds.

Along with eating ice lollies.
The sound of crockery being put down too hard.
Car door slams.

You're not being precious imo.

And his wife is deffo out of order for not poking him!!!

Savingshoes · 22/02/2020 00:03

@pooriver explains it better than me. In addition I think that poor oral posture, a soft diet and removal of wisdom teeth also contribute to snoring.
Dr. Mew and Dr. Mahoney have some fascinating theories.

Thurmanmurman · 22/02/2020 00:30

YANBU. I can barely tolerate my own DH snoring, let alone some random on a coach.

Ceelowbrown · 22/02/2020 00:35

It would annoy me too

Levatrice · 22/02/2020 00:40

Yanbu I would have gone demented

Chillicheese123 · 22/02/2020 00:44

Don’t get the people being arseholes about it OP, I would have probably said something to his wife to be honest and I don’t care if it makes me a terrible person.

Chillicheese123 · 22/02/2020 00:47

My dp can tend to snore sometimes if he puts a bit of timber on, has a cold or a lot of alcohol. He always wants me to tell him as he thinks snoring is mortifying and antisocial. He will try various things to reduce it like cutting back on the takeout And beer for a week or two and popping some vaporub on which normally helps. Can’t imagine any grown adult being like ‘hey I snore so loudly it keeps my partner who I love awake, but I can’t help it so off I go’

Aragog · 22/02/2020 00:49

Easiest solution is to use noise cancelling headphones. I don't travel without them now. It solves all noise issues when travelling on planes, trains etc.

To be honest I'd be feeling more jealous of someone who can just sleep sat up on public transport than any other feeling. I so wish I could. I have a 4 hour then an 8 hour flight to face tomorrow and know I won't sleep, even though it's a night flight. The thought of being able to drop asleep throughout would be lovely, snoring or no snoring!

BootShakin · 22/02/2020 04:19

Well I feel sick too when I know of precious people. Barf.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/02/2020 05:17
