Mary prepping for a pandemic is in thread no 5 now, it's virtually always in Active threads.

TartanTexan · 24/02/2020 08:16

Fergus Walsh, medical correspondent, just on R4 has said warmer temperatures ‘may’ help limit spread. Added wasn’t case re: SARS or MERS in Saudi though...

Any news on the Abels?

And do we think the WHO will declare it a pandemic today?

babychange12 · 24/02/2020 08:51

That's reassuring re Singapore, but if that's the case.. why the travel advisory against Singapore and not against Iran / Italy etc?

ofwarren · 24/02/2020 08:54

I'm hoping we get updated travel advice this week. You know how bad the UK are at communicating ANYTHING over the weekend.

KoalasandRabbit · 24/02/2020 08:55

Nothing new from Abels today yet - yesterday said both stable, still no treatment for pneumonia but getting treatment for other conditions. Were talking about being released next week though no sure what basing that on. Have access to staff who speak English and Princess have bought them a phone for calls and some food. Still quite down understandably and fed up of few people making nasty comments was gist of it. Dogs with Stephen and family and dogs looked happy.

WaterSheep · 24/02/2020 08:59

First they claimed it was to disrupt the election

and now

Iranian officials said that people who illegally entered Iran from Pakistan, Afghanistan and China were the source of the outbreak.

Thank you for the update on the Abels.

51 new cases confirmed so far in Italy

WaterSheep · 24/02/2020 09:05

the death toll from the new coronavirus in the city of Qom is 50.

If proven true then that puts them as the 2nd highest death rate. More than all countries outside China combined. Shock

Bno newsroom @bnonews
Number of South Koreans who tested positive for coronavirus after making a group pilgrimage to Israel rises to 31 - Yonhap

If you have not followed this particular story, a group of 200 South Korean tourists were quarantined in Israel after one was suspected of having COVID-19. Israel then banned all foreign nationals who have been to South Korea or Japan recently from entering the country.

I was aware that 2 had tested positive so I'm surprised to see the numbers have now shot up.

RedToothBrush · 24/02/2020 09:09

Golna Estfandiari @gestandiari
About 50 people have died from coronavirus in the holy city of Qom, Qom's lawmaker Amirabadi is quoted as saying by Iranian media, adding that the city must be quarantined. He says coronavirus reached Qom three weeks ago, authorities announced it later.

Qom MP left parliament after claiming 50 have died from coronavirus in the holy Shi'ite city alone. ISNA news agency reports he wasn't feeling well. His seat was immediately disinfected. #COVID19

8th death in South Korea - yonhap

RedToothBrush · 24/02/2020 09:15

Death 7 was a 62 year old man connected to a hospital in Cheongdo (I wonder if this is the mental hospital in the same building the sect had their gathering?)

WaterSheep · 24/02/2020 09:16

Italy are holding a press conference later today.

Civil Protection chief Angelo Borrelli to hold press conference at 12:00 noon local time (11:00 GMT).

Hollyboba · 24/02/2020 09:20

Sorry if I'm miss understanding but these death tolls seem extremely low in relation to population. Why are people so worried about this?

Is it not just another bird flu/swine flu?
