Here's the link pumpkin got the quote from. It's a good source of info on stats for each country, local info on each country and new cases.

I just read on this site that the quarantined area of Italy has run out of testing kits.

It is too long to translate but copy and paste on google Translate

Church services suspended even for funerals! Burial will be done but no service. Wedding without guest only close family, there is curfew at 6 pm for bars,

This is madness!

Choux · 24/02/2020 02:21

They promised extreme measures and that's what they are taking. I wouldn't call it madness. They need to avoid gatherings where the virus can be spread. Just imagine all the hugging and kissing at a wedding or funeral.

Who wants their wedding remembered as the day half the guests caught a virus which killed Granny and the priest?

PumpkinPieAlibi · 24/02/2020 02:38

@Choux - Thank you, that's the one.

Does anyone else find it strange that no numbers have been reported from China yet? Today's infection and death stats are at least 3 hours late. Confused

Choux · 24/02/2020 02:47

@PumpkinPieAlibi they must collate stats from so many hospitals. All it takes is for one hospital to be late for whatever reason. They know people are watching the stats so need to ensure they are comparable day by day.

Of course it could be that the news is so good or bad that they are having to doublecheck the adding up to be sure it really is true before they release it to the world.

PumpkinPieAlibi · 24/02/2020 02:57

Well, I guess they stalled because it's so bad @Choux. Shock

Modified again. Final daily death toll for China is 150.

Thank goodness

to be worried about coronavirus part 3
Dennisreynoldsduster · 24/02/2020 03:34

Is it not suspicious that it was modified?

Camomila · 24/02/2020 06:25

I'm another one watching RAI/Italian newspapers very closely.
I'm not surprised by the Italian measures, Italy is always a lot stricter on medical stuff than the UK IMO. My parents (Italian) think its very sensible.

I think if Italy manages to contain it, it'll be a really good sign re: stopping it getting everywhere but if they don't (considering it's a developed country and less densely populated than the UK or Japan) then I think it'll spread round the whole world eventually.

SterlingViolet · 24/02/2020 06:29

@Dennisreynoldsduster
Is it not suspicious that it was modified?

yeah, I saw that original number, too.

Or, it could be that there were 989 deaths in China total,
but only 150 were confirmed COVID-19; so they corrected it.

I wonder if coroners will autopsy/test any/all new deaths, to determine?
Probably not.
I suppose resources and medical staff are limited, atm.

So, yeah ...these are only 'confirmed' COVID-19 deaths.

RIP to them all. Flowers

babychange12 · 24/02/2020 06:35

From the bbc

If countries could hold it somewhat at bay until the end of winter, there is a hope that warmer temperatures will reduce the time the virus can survive in the air, as we see with seasonal flu. But this may not be certain.

If this was the case, why would tropical countries like Singapore still have so many cases? Admittedly it's much lower than other countries

NotGenerationAlpha · 24/02/2020 06:41

I wanted to say how about Singapore!! It’s tropical and barmy all year round.

IvyBush123 · 24/02/2020 06:42

@babychange12 Transmission has slowed down in Singapore, maybe even came to a stop. Here is BNO news: twitter.com/BNODesk/status/1231556106264219648

It might be the heat. It might be the fact that containment measures work.

WaterSheep · 24/02/2020 06:50

Or, it could be that there were 989 deaths in China total

That seems very low for a daily death rate in a country as large as China.

In other news Kuwait (3) and Bahrain (1) have announced their first cases.

Quartz2208 · 24/02/2020 07:36

Whereas I have no doubt China could change the numbers coming out I would be surprised if the worldometers stats people did that could just be human error as the recovered stats are different as well

RedToothBrush · 24/02/2020 07:37

Kuwait and Bahrain cases are people who have travelled from Iran.

#developing Foreign diplomats stationed in Pyongyang, North Korea are in total isolation due to an ongoing novel coronavirus quarantine, a source inside the country tells me. The source agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, due to what they describe as NK gov’t ‘paranoia.’

#developing Diplomatic staff in NK are not allowed to leave their compounds, the source says. All flights in and out of the country are suspended until further notice. “We are basically caught in here,” the source says. “It’s dull and nobody knows how long this will go on for.”

#developing Embassies in Pyongyang have been told the quarantine measures, which began in early Feb, will continue until March 1, the source adds. “Nobody really believes that, given how paranoid the authorities are,” the source says. North Korean authorities have yet to comment.

Japanese man's COVID-19 case raising concerns about Indonesia's detection ability

A Japanese national has reportedly tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus after visiting Indonesia, raising concerns about the country’s ability to detect carriers of the deadly virus.

Because of this incident, Indonesian authorities are being urged to take swift actions to prevent its spread.

So Indonesia too. (which is unsurprising)

LeGrandBleu · 24/02/2020 07:47

4th death in Italy

Mittens030869 · 24/02/2020 07:47

It might be the heat. It might be the fact that containment measures work.

Singapore is a very autocratic state, and a city state. I wouldn't be in the least surprised if they found ways to contain the coronavirus so it didn't spread further.
