How many long term (6 months or more) romantic relationships have you had in your life?

I am 45. I have had 5 long term (6 months or longer) romantic relationships in my life (including my husband who I have been with for 15 years). I don't think that is a lot but my best friend does. Is this about normal (also had many years being single, so it all evens out).

@cupidslovechild

I have only ever had ONE relationship go past 6 months. (And that is my DH who I have been married to for almost 3 decades...)

I had 4 or 5 boyfriends before him, but they only lasted between 2 and 4 months. Also, several one night stands. (Also before I met him!)

But DH is the only one who I have gone the distance with! Grin

Three.

Nowayorhighway · 17/02/2020 20:07

6 months isn’t long term is it? I’d say 12 months+ is long term.

I’ve been married twice, was with first husband for six years in total and have been with my current DH for the same amount of time with no plans to leave Grin. I had one other boyfriend who I was with for around a year before I met exH, he was an abusive cunt. Other than that I’ve just casually dated a handful of guys.

PixieDustt · 17/02/2020 20:07

57 years old and 4 relationships over 6 months. One spanning 16 years and one 12 years currently .

BocaDeTrucha · 17/02/2020 20:09

With DH for nearly 10 years. Had 2 other LT relationships (12 months and 7 years) I'm 46.

CakeandCustard28 · 17/02/2020 20:12

Three. 1.5 years, 7 months, 13 years and still going. Smile

  1. Boyfriend 2 years, live-in partner almost 10 years, boyfriend 1 year and now DH 6 years. The rest were a waste of time really. Boyfriend of 1 year was good, he taught me a lot about myself and we're still friends. Wish I hadn't wasted almost a decade on my ex.
elliejjtiny · 17/02/2020 20:14
  1. I thought that was really unusual but apparently not. Been with dh since I was 19 and now 37 so 18 years. Before that my longest relationship was nearly 3 months aged 15.
TheNoiseHurts · 17/02/2020 20:16

1 - DH

I've had loads of shorter relationships in my teens but I would always get bored of them after 3 months.

So only one long term relationship.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 17/02/2020 20:19

I'm 35 but wouldn't consider 6 months plus long term, more than a year maybe, maybe not depends how serious it was. On your definition I've had 4 including DH (11 years) , but if asked I'd say two, DH and an ex (3 years). One other about 8 months and one eighteen months but some of that was fairly casual.

weegiemum · 17/02/2020 20:20

Only really dh - been together 30 years, married 25.

MrsMGE · 17/02/2020 20:21

3 (including two former bfs and DH - my longest and by far the best ❤️ relationship)

Technically 4, but one was an on-off boyfriend when I was in my early 20s, I think I'd discount him tbh.

TwoBlueFish · 17/02/2020 20:22

2, I’m 47
Age17-26 BF (9 years)
Age 26-now DH (20+years)

Icypop · 17/02/2020 20:25

4 - first love 4 years, hot rebound guy 1 year, arsehole ex 2 years, dp & baby daddy 10 years. I'm 35 and met first love at 16 so have had 17 years of relationships and 3 very wild inbetweeny years!!

VerbenaGirl · 17/02/2020 20:26

Sounds about right to me. I’ve had 5. Now been with DH for 20 years.

Mummymummums · 17/02/2020 20:30

10 that were six months or more but I got married later than some at 37, and been married for 14 years now.

TreatMyself · 17/02/2020 20:31

All longer than a year. Serial monogamist but been single for years now.

IndieTara · 17/02/2020 20:32

I've had 6 LTR's Imarried one and was engaged to 2 ( not all at the same time)

MrsMGE · 17/02/2020 20:32

It's a really interesting thread, OP. I certainly used to think that all women around me had more longer relationships than me and that I was the lonely one. They'd always "seemed" to be with someone. That's what I thought when I was younger. Now, at 33, I don't care about comparisons. But it's interesting to read the honest responses. The reality is often different to what we think and there's a lot more of us who have had long periods on their own. Wishing all the love to those of you waiting for your other half 🌺🌺🌺

raspberryk · 17/02/2020 20:34
  1. XH 16-27
  2. FWB 12-18 months
  3. DP 2.5 years and counting

So 2 or 3 depending on what you count, I'm 32.

Caramel78 · 17/02/2020 20:37

I’ve had 10 and I’m 32. Jumped from one 6-12 month relationship to the next from the ages of 15-25. I’ve been with my DP for 4 years now

TriJo · 17/02/2020 20:38

One. 8 years with my exH. I left 3 months ago.
