How many long term (6 months or more) romantic relationships have you had in your life?

I am 45. I have had 5 long term (6 months or longer) romantic relationships in my life (including my husband who I have been with for 15 years). I don't think that is a lot but my best friend does. Is this about normal (also had many years being single, so it all evens out).

Three (3 years, 14 years and 4 years) and I'm 40.

Moonflower12 · 17/02/2020 18:18

I'm 51. 4x teenage bfs. -approximately 1year each. 3ltr as an adult. Twice with DP. 12 years and counting this time.

3teens · 17/02/2020 18:19
  1. I'm 36
phoenixrosehere · 17/02/2020 18:19

Early 30s here and only had one being my husband. I didn’t start dating until 19 and my first boyfriend and I lasted under six months when I was 20. Didn’t want to be in another relationship anytime soon after that ,and dated here and there until I met my husband at 23, him 35. We’ve been together for over a decade.

Never really paid attention to how long others were together.

4thTimeIsTheCharm · 17/02/2020 18:19

I'm 35 and i've had 4.

Age 17-18 (18months - abusive arse)
Age 19-20 (9 months - crazy weirdo)
Age 17-21 (long term FWB arrangement - still good friends)
Age 21 to now (DH - everything the other 3 were not!)

when i write it down like that its a bit despressing that my only other LTR were with such fuckwits and that the FWB guy and I never gave it a proper go!

honeyloops · 17/02/2020 18:20

6, and I'm 30. First proper boyfriend - 1.5 years. Next boyfriends - 6 months, 3 years, 1 year and 8 months. Now with OH for almost 6 years.

BarbedBloom · 17/02/2020 18:20

4 and I am 38

MitziK · 17/02/2020 18:22

Nobody before DP ever made it past the 4 year mark. I'd realise 'No, I don't want get married', but was too stupid to dump them before things had deteriorated to the point of wishing they'd just fucking crash their car or meet some other stupid cow and spin them a sob story. I always hoped that things would get better, but just before the actual five years had clocked up, something flipped in my head and they'd be out on their ear as I wasn't prepared to put up with their shit anymore.

Hence 16-20: Ex 1
20-25: Ex 2
25-30: Ex 3
30-33: being not that into whoever I was dating
34-39: Ex 4
39-40: trying to get Ex 4 to leave me the fuck alone. And being pestered by Ex 2.
40 - DP. On 7 years so far. And still rather like him. We hadn't even got round to arguing by the 5 year mark.

RightSwipe · 17/02/2020 18:22

My relationships:

18 months
2 years
2 years
5 years (including living together)
Then met DH and been together almost 20 years.

heidihigh · 17/02/2020 18:22
1) 16-22 (5.5 years) 2) 22-24 (18 months) And I've been with my current DP for nearly 2 years and counting Smile
TheFluffiestCat · 17/02/2020 18:24

I'm 39. 4, plus a long-ish and overly complicated FWB arrangement. I've been with DH for 9 years so far. The longest previous relationship was 5 years from 16-21.

FakeFraudSquad · 17/02/2020 18:24

One at the age of 29 to just before 31. Would have married him but he didn’t want kids. Apart from that I’ve only ever been on one other date. I’m shy and haven’t been approached otherwise except by men old enough to be my father or grandfather. I’m 36 now and coming to terms with the fact that this is probably it now. I definitely wanted marriage and kids but trying to get used to the idea of a different kind of future.

Talcott2007 · 17/02/2020 18:25

I'm 33 and have had 3 long term relationships:
1st bf was about 3 years around 15yrs-18yrs
2nd bf was then just over a year 18&1/2 - 19&1/2
Met now DH at 20 and been together 13 years now.

AngeloMysterioso · 17/02/2020 18:28

First boyfriend when I was late teens (he was late 20s), 9ish months, 2 of which I was on a different continent

No long term boyfriends at uni, had a great time Grin

Boyfriends 2 and 3, early/mid 20s, roughly a year and a half each

4th, DH, coming up for 7 years, married 3 this summer.

Coolcucumber2020 · 17/02/2020 18:33

6

Feel like I should have had more. Just to see what other options would be like.

thecatneuterer · 17/02/2020 18:41

10 that were definitely over six months. And a load more that were approaching 6 months probably.

Lippy1234 · 17/02/2020 18:45

I got together with my DH when I was 26, he was my 5th long term partner. The others 4 all lasted about 2 years.
I’m 51 now.

Firelink · 17/02/2020 18:47

I have only had one LT relationship, 45 years married previous 100 odd were one nightstands so no exes for me.

DesLynamsMoustache · 17/02/2020 18:49

I'm 34 and I've had two. One six years, and my husband will be eight years this year. I packed a lot of flings into the other years though Grin

Flufferbum · 17/02/2020 18:49

Bloody hell I’ve never been out of a relationship since being 15 it feels! Your fine OP. I only count anyone I’ve been with for longer than a year and that would be 5 🤣😬 6 months... seeeeeeesh

DesLynamsMoustache · 17/02/2020 18:50

Whoops three. Forgot the bf I was with for two years from 17-19 Blush

iklboo · 17/02/2020 18:51

Two

Ex 14 years (14-28)
DH together 18 years, married 15 (32-50)

AlohaMolly · 17/02/2020 18:51

3 and I’m 32. 1 for 2 years aged 16-18, 1 (longest) from 18 - 27 and then my current partner, DS’ dad, from 27 - present.

QueenofallIsee · 17/02/2020 18:52

4, I’m nearly 41. Longest one in there lasted 16 years and I’m counting my DH (just 2 years in and newlyweds)

CorporateClaire · 17/02/2020 18:53

5 but I wouldn't call 6 months a LTR - maybe a year or 18 months might be
