Flat earth- what’s your opinion??

Just catching up on This Mornings interview with a flat earther-can’t get my head around his debate but at the same time he makes some points that sound very realistic and he seems knowledgable . But I do believe our earth is round and not flat but very open to other people’s views , so just wondered what you think Mumsnetters?? Sorry if there’s been a thread like this before....
YANBU=our earth is round
YABU= it is flat

Why would we be flat in a universe of round planets

People who fervently believe in this stuff can't easily be dissuaded. They reject scientific rigour and reason.

Wasn't the flat Earth thing started off as a debating topic by a bunch of student types?

In my opinion it isn't something to have an opinion on. An opinion is a personal interpretation of something subjective. The earth being a sphere is a fact

I have a friend who has taken a sudden crazy turn. I don’t see her at all irl anymore as we don’t live nearby but her Facebook feed is one long stream of conspiracies: anti vax, chemtrails, governments creating Coronavirus etc. Surprise surprise she’s a flat earther too. She does post some things that give the appearance of being genuine and well-reasoned arguments but if you look closer (and I do - it’s fascinating and scary at the same time) there isn’t a shred of credible evidence or real science. Such is the power of social media that arguments that were put to bed many decades or even centuries ago somehow re-emerge and collect their band of followers from wherever they can find them.

I didn’t say it made me feel like he’s telling the truth, I’m very much a ‘there’s scientific evidence as well as actual logic to prove we live on a globe’ but what I meant by my comment was he sounds like he is talking sense like he had an answer for every question and query Holly and Phil had, but I don’t believe him but he just sounded like he knew stuff 😂

OP, I am desperate to know what good points you thought he made! Anyone who thinks the earth is flat is an absolute moron.

@WarrenNicole I kind of worded it wrong I think, he didn’t make any points that made me believe him but he just sounded really intelligent but I suppose you have to rehearse shit if you’re going on live Tv

I watched one on a YouTube clip, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about too, until an actual scientist explained how his calculations and theories were a load of bullshit. Earth is round, its not debatable, its a fact.

I’m not a flat earther but I also wouldn’t bet my life savings on it being round. Not because I don’t think it is, but because really how many normal people can actually say for sure? Yes there are photos and evidence etc but it’s all just taking someone’s word for it really. If that makes any sense at all. Nothing could be how we think it is for all we know.

I once went to Northern Norway to see the northern lights. We had to go out in the night to see them and I was terrified id fall off the edge into endless space.

What were the compelling arguments?
