To find it odd when people sign cards from animals?

puds11 · 11/02/2020 10:53

I love animals, I have animals, but I wouldn’t dream of signing a card ‘love Puds, Pud’s spawn and Puds hamster’

Also referring to the pet as ‘brother’ or ‘sister’ Confused

Is it just me?

We do this but only to other animal obsessives

Honeyroar · 11/02/2020 16:45

We do it in a joking way. We put their names on cards to close family and friends that also are animal mad. Our dogs send their dogs dog biscuits for Xmas and our horses send carrots! I’ve always sent my stepson and husband silly cards with dogs or horses on signed from our horses and dogs on their birthday- hopefully it makes them laugh. It started because I found a funny card with a dog on it for my stepson’s birthday when he was younger and a cool one he’d like as well. I couldn’t choose so I sent one from us and one from the dogs, and it became a tradition.

I adore our animals and they’re very much part of the family but I hate the term fur babies and I’m not their mum!

My cats have a stamp with a their own paw prints on so they can sign Christmas cards. Grin

Not something I can get worked up about. It's not doing any harm and it isn't that difficult to find a bit of empathy for the huge number of people for whom a pet is a member of the family , especially those without DC (and wanting them), the elderly, the lonely etc.

Nothing wrong with a bit of fun either which is what it otherwise is. We add dogs names into cards if we know the family dog. I have a friend who lives alone with her beloved dog and got the dog a xmas present as well as her. It's just a bit of fun and trying to be thoughtful and pay tribute to how they feel about the pet, it's much nicer to make people smile than be a miserable git.

furrytoebean · 11/02/2020 16:47

@Toddlerteaplease where did you get that???

YesItsMeIDontCare · 11/02/2020 16:50

@furrytoebean - Cheeky Little Prints, I got Leroy's done on Toddler's recommendation 😁

LaurieMarlow · 11/02/2020 16:50

I think it's a bit miserable to take umbridge with something like this. It's harmless. Besides, for a lot of people pets really are a part of the family.

This. DH's Aunt does it. She has no family of her own. Her dog's important to her. Who am I to comment on that?

MelanieFrontage · 11/02/2020 16:51

Later this week DH will be receiving 3 birthday cards, 1 from each of the dogs, signed by them as well 😂

louderthan1 · 11/02/2020 16:51

No more odd than when people sign cards from their babies or toddlers

Papergirl1968 · 11/02/2020 16:54

I want one too! Looks like amazon sell them. Is that where you got it, Toddler?
I describe girlcat as boycat’s sister by another mister. He’s her brother by another mother Smile

Papergirl1968 · 11/02/2020 16:56

Sorry, just saw it was Cheeky Little Prints.

Vulpine · 11/02/2020 17:00

I prefer that to one person, usually the woman, signing on behalf of the rest of the family which seems less genuine

KatherineJaneway · 11/02/2020 17:03

I do but only to my close friends and family who are animal lovers and we talk about our pets to each other. I received a Christmas card from my cats Grin

When I had a dog I'd call home from holiday to talk to het6.

Shockers · 11/02/2020 17:09

I do, but only for people who have a relationship with my pets!

Squirrelblanket · 11/02/2020 17:13

I think it's a bit twee but I appreciate that some people do see their pets like another member of the family.

I wouldn't do it but to each their own!

Squirrelblanket · 11/02/2020 17:16

Also, when I was at uni in the days before everyone got free minutes on their mobiles, I used to ring home and my mum used to get me to 'talk to the cat'. It was really awkward and all I could think about was the money it was costing me. Plus I doubt the cat gave a shit.

But it made my mum happy! Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 11/02/2020 17:19

@YesItsMeDontCare. Pinks Harry has one as well. I love that Leroy has one too!

SimonJT · 11/02/2020 17:21

I have a load of my cats foot prints that I took a few years ago, sometimes I sign her name in a card sometimes I stick one of her paw prints in.

available in single and double 🥰

Cosyjimjamsforautumn · 11/02/2020 17:28

No furbabies here. But Santa Claws does leave them each a tin of tuna in a stocking and they sign birthday and xmas cards to DH, DM and DD 🐾

Ttcbabybennett · 11/02/2020 17:31

Voted YABU just because our nan does this with her dog who is basically her life and its very endearing. I personally don’t sign cards from our 3 cats but I don’t take umbridge when someone gives us a card and does so, they just trying to say that everyone that they feel is part of their “family” is wishing you well, no harm in that :)

puds11 · 11/02/2020 17:33

I do it. Pets are part of the family. Well my family anyway. People can like or not, I'm not bothered.

dogcrazy · 11/02/2020 17:41

YABU. I love getting a Mother’s Day card from my dogs and DS loves getting a brother one Grin. I wouldn’t unless to family/dog lovers though.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/02/2020 17:53

I think Cheeky little prints should be giving me commission!
