To find it odd when people sign cards from animals?

I love animals, I have animals, but I wouldn’t dream of signing a card ‘love Puds, Pud’s spawn and Puds hamster’

Also referring to the pet as ‘brother’ or ‘sister’ Confused

Is it just me?

I think it depends on whether it’s a joke or not.

we always get presents from my mums cats, it’s a family tradition.

My friend whose fiancé cheated on her a few years ago now signs every card from her and the dog. All pictures on her social media are of the dog and she seems to be pretty obsessed with her dog who seems to have taken the place of the fiancé

It's just the names of the members of your family, many people consider their pets family.

(Tbh, they are often an improvement on blood relations)

People put babies names on cards, I doubt the baby wishes you happy birthday any more than the dog does.

Not weird at all in my opinion.

TheMemoryLingers · 11/02/2020 11:12

We do this within the family but I wouldn't include the animals on a non-family member's cards.

GoodDogBellaBoo · 11/02/2020 11:15

@KurriKurri 😂😂😂

Bluerussian · 11/02/2020 11:17

All it does is show that the pets cannot write, how embarrassing. A pawprint might be better.

TheGlitterFairy · 11/02/2020 11:18

I do this - the cat is part of our family! No harm in it. Tbf though, I did think it was a bit bonkers until we had a pet then it seemed a normal thing to do.
Our cat also buys Christmas gifts for my DH, parents and Dad’s cat too.....she’s very clever Grin

Pukkatea · 11/02/2020 11:21

I think it's a harmless bit of fun. No different to adding your toddler who also definitely doesn't wish anyone a happy birthday. People like animals!

SandAndSea · 11/02/2020 11:23

My cat thinks you're being very unreasonable.

LizziesTwin · 11/02/2020 11:23

@Bluerussian my dogs are represented by a large or small paw print with their name underneath. When we were all younger they sometimes dipped their paws in paint for birthday cards to special friends.

Smellbow · 11/02/2020 11:23

Are you a member of my family? Blush

BrightYellowDaffodil · 11/02/2020 11:24

To other horsey people I sign Christmas cards from me and my horse. I wouldn’t sign it like that to, say, my boss or my next door neighbour or, indeed, anyone who doesn’t know my horse.

With you on the fur baby thing though. Much as I will refer to myself as my horse’s “mum”, the fur baby thing makes my teeth itch.

SerenDippitty · 11/02/2020 11:25

DH and I always got Valentine cards from the dog.

puds11 · 11/02/2020 11:26

I’d prefer a paw print of a picture of said animal. Preferably a picture of the animal signing the card Grin

puds11 · 11/02/2020 11:27

@SerenDippitty who bought the card Grin

Parkandride · 11/02/2020 11:28

@KurriKurri Grin

I have people who I include my dogs name on cards for, and people I definitely don't. I like the former group much better tbh

FruityWidow · 11/02/2020 11:29

I find it weird but each to their own. A colleague at work has birthday parties for her dogs with invitations, balloons, doggy cake, Pawsecco and the like. I just nod and smile.

chaos76 · 11/02/2020 11:29

Its all bloody ridiculous pets are pets they are not humans, they don't need to be given human relationship names yes they can be loved and be part of the household unit but stop humanising them

SVRT19674 · 11/02/2020 11:30

My aunt does this. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. it does bother me when people don't respect a dog's canine nature and try to humanise them.

Changeofname79 · 11/02/2020 11:30

It's just a bit of fun, lighten up

PurpleDaisies · 11/02/2020 11:31

it’s more the adult referring to the pet as their child’s brother I.e. don’t pull your brothers ears (brother is a dog confused).

I have never, ever heard anyone do this.

karencantobe · 11/02/2020 11:31

It is no more odd than signing a card from a baby or toddler,

SpamChaudFroid · 11/02/2020 11:32

But what about when your pet's saved up all his pocket money to buy somebody a gift and a card? Surely it's OK to sign the card on his behalf then Grin?

JKScot4 · 11/02/2020 11:32

@Batqueen
Your friend has made the right choice

PurpleDaisies · 11/02/2020 11:32

It is no more odd than signing a card from a baby or toddler

Or “the bump”. That’s the worst.
