To find it odd when people sign cards from animals?

puds11 · 11/02/2020 10:53

I love animals, I have animals, but I wouldn’t dream of signing a card ‘love Puds, Pud’s spawn and Puds hamster’

Also referring to the pet as ‘brother’ or ‘sister’ Confused

Is it just me?

@PurpleDaisies my DSis does this.

The bump is the worst by far.

moochew · 11/02/2020 11:37

I refer to my kids as puppies - maybe that's even weirder. Confused

PurpleDaisies · 11/02/2020 11:38

My friends who know I’ve been struggling to conceive have sent cards from “the bump”, complete with scan pictures. It’s bloody awful.

Give me a card from the dog any day.

puds11 · 11/02/2020 11:38

@SpamChaudFroid how much pocket money does a pet get these days Grin

Sparklingplasters · 11/02/2020 11:38

My cat appears on all my greeting cards, my family like it.

AmelieTaylor · 11/02/2020 11:40

Its all bloody ridiculous pets are pets they are not humans

No one said they were, but they ARE part of the family & thus are included on cards,
There’s a bit more to being a human than having your name included on a card

Clevererthanyou · 11/02/2020 11:41

It’s harmless and I can’t see the issue. My folks always signed all cards from them and the family animals inc the wedding day card Grin I’d be wounded if they didn’t.

MaidenMotherCrone · 11/02/2020 11:42

Why sign cards for them when my can do it themselves Grin. They also compose poems. Mine only send to each other and immediate family as they are on a limited budget and also quite stuck up.

All these animals that can't read or write..... poor pet parenting IMO.

MaidenCat at 13 weeks old had mastered reading Grin

Good God, have you had a complete empathy by pass?

WHY would you think it’s awful?i think it’s nice to share their excitement.

bengalcat · 11/02/2020 11:45

I sign Christmas and Birthday cards from the pets to friends with pets and they do the same in general .

puds11 · 11/02/2020 11:45

@MaidenMotherCrone Maiden cat is very cute 🥰 Looking to be a ships cat Grin

I’d find it funny if someone sent me a cushion with their pets face on, just find the card thing odd. I kind of find cards odd. I think it’s definitely me that’s odd though.

Now I just want to see more pics of people’s pets Grin

My late Mum used to do it for me. She was a no nonsense kind of person but this was just our thing. It breaks me a little when I come across an old card she had sent "signed by" the cat. Also long dead.
Meh. Not your thing, op. So what?

karencantobe · 11/02/2020 11:49

My friend sends cards signed by their dog and cats but leaves off the fish. I feel sorry for the fish. I think it is a sign they are not loved as much.
(Although I do recognise the fish will not care).

MashedSpud · 11/02/2020 11:51

Live a little.

lynsey91 · 11/02/2020 11:51

When I send cards to other pet owners I sign them from my dogs (and cats when I had them) and they do the same on their cards to me.

I also do that on cards to my family as they always send my dogs birthday cards and Christmas cards. They all also buy my dogs presents at Christmas.

My mum and dad sign their cards to my dogs "from nanny and grandad".

I tell my dogs they have cards/presents from their nanny and grandad,. Also say from Uncle (names), Auntie (names) and cousin (names). They have 4 cousins.

Me and DH give each other a card at Christmas and birthdays signed by the dogs.

Mind you my dogs are pretty clever. They go to the shops all by themselves and buy me flowers, chocolates and, if they have extra money, something like a book or earrings for Mothers Day!

I think it is a bit of fun and really could not care less that some miseries think it's weird

karencantobe · 11/02/2020 11:54

Another friend always talks about her 2 brothers - one is her mum's dog. When I first met her I used to get confused about which brother she was referring to, so she started calling him her hairy brother. She talks way more about her hairy brother than her human one, and seems to prefer him too.

PurpleDaisies · 11/02/2020 11:59

Are you kidding with the empathy bypass? Right back at you. Biscuit

It’s difficult to share in someone’s excitement when you’ve had multiple miscarriages and a decade of trying unsuccessfully. They know this.

Genderwitched · 11/02/2020 11:59

what I find really odd is the fact that so many people cannot get their heads round other people doing things differently to them.

Everyone has quirks and ways, just what is wrong with that. It's so incredible judgemental. I just don't get it.

lazylinguist · 11/02/2020 11:59

I think this is another one of the very very many MN threads by posters feigning polite confusion/ignorance about why people like/do some completely harmless thing, while really being a thinly-veiled way of mocking people they consider less cultured, intelligent, sophisticated, middle class or morally superior than themselves.

See also: AIBU to 'not understand' why adults/women read harry Potter/like Disney/wear x brand of clothes/don't wear make-up/are SAHMs etc etc. It's not about 'understanding' other people's choices. They choose to do things because they like them. Everyone is different.

Oh and nobody thinks their pet is human.Hmm I sign my dog's name on my friend's birthday card because I know she will think it's cute, and to thank her for looking after him for me once a week.

@PurpleDaisies
I think it’s your friends who have had an empathy by pass, how bloody thoughtless of them.

LolaSmiles · 11/02/2020 12:06

I have to sign cards from my dog because he can't write - a) because he's only 3 and b) because he's a dog
Grin

I dislike the term furbabies, but DH and I are mum and dad to the dogs. We weren't going to but drifted into it and it's easier to tell the dogs to "find mum / dad" than it is multi-syllable names, so we're mum and dad but dogs aren't furbabies.

SpamChaudFroid · 11/02/2020 12:06

how much pocket money does a pet get these days

He picked a bottle of Chateauneuf de Pape to give as a gift, so probably far too much. In reality, he's in debt to me up to his ears due to all the stuff belonging to me that he destroyed as a puppy. We keep up the pretense though Wink
