Or Kytt? Or Kitt

What are your thoughts?

I know its usually an abbreviation but I hate the longer names

OP it's lovely!

Personally I'd just go for Kit, Kester shortened to Kit at a push, but don't like Christopher.

Ignore your friend's text, completely.

If she brings it up, simply say 'Oh. Thought it better to ignore that one, given the circumstances it was so massively inappropriate and rude anyway that I thought you would have realised and just felt awkward once it was sent. Let's not mention it again. Unless you want a critique of your kids' names?'

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 07/02/2020 14:50

My nephew's called Kit. It's lovely.

UnitedRoad · 07/02/2020 14:58

Completely agree with @Abouttimemum

One of mine has a name which is often an abbreviation, although it’s not uncommon as a stand alone name.

onionface · 07/02/2020 15:18

Why do people worry that Kit will be mocked like "PE kit" or "kitkat" at school? If Mark and Tom and Pete and Lou are all OK, Kit is also fine.

Fedupofitnow123 · 07/02/2020 17:49

Thank you everyone! Seems it's not so bad after all! I like the name and as my dad wont be around to see him, it is just lovely to have him name him

hennyspennys · 07/02/2020 17:50

Kit is good, you could use Christopher and then abbreviate it so he has a choice.

FizzyGreenWater · 07/02/2020 19:48

I'm sorry about your dad OP Flowers

Kit is an absolutely fab name - easy to say and spell, cool, sounds modern but is actually really old, quite quirky - it's lovely that your dad's choice happens to be such a great one.

Bluerussian · 07/02/2020 19:50

Kit is alright, it's a Greek name. I know someone who has a small son called Kit, it suits him.

Namechangedforthis1357 · 07/02/2020 20:30

Sorry about your dad - it's a great name and a lovely idea.

We all know who is class-less and ludicrous on this thread. Or maybe just brassy-klassy or brassy-pussy.

Halloweenbabyy · 07/02/2020 20:56

I love it. However my name is Kat which turned into kitty then Kit, Kit cat..

Malvinaa81 · 07/02/2020 21:23

It's only a name for Christopher anyway, so best to use that and Kit for short.

Whyismycatanasshat · 07/02/2020 22:34

Sorry about your Dad op. Life is cruel. My dad is hanging on, just, but he chose my DD’s name and it means a lot.

My eldest Nephew is just Kit, not Christopher or anything thing else. He owns the name completely and is a lovely 15 year old; he’s had some ribbing about his name - his rugby team call him knight rider And he likes that but nothing horrendous!

ASureSign · 07/02/2020 22:39

Sorry about your Dad. I love the name Kit. I would just use Kit.

phlebasconsidered · 07/02/2020 22:52

Kit is today's Kai. There's a big influx of the name in our school nursery and I fully expect to have classes of two or three Kit's in a few years. Once I had a class with 4 Kai's.

...
It comes from the same root as Christopher but Kit is a Greek name in its own right.

OlaEliza · 07/02/2020 23:07

My first thought was, it's a car.

whattodo2019 · 07/02/2020 23:12

Kit is a fabulous name

Fozzleyplum · 07/02/2020 23:22

I have a 16 yo Christopher nn Kit- seems I was ahead of the curve! I

Yeahnah2020 · 08/02/2020 02:41

Knight rider!

VenusTiger · 28/02/2020 23:47

@Fedupofitnow123 I like Kit but my DH doesn't (he never liked Jon Snow's pathetic nature ha!) - I know this thread is weeks old, but I've often wondered about you and how you're getting on - hope your son is well and that you're happy and settled now. When is baby due?

Fedupofitnow123 · 08/03/2020 19:48

@venustiger I have taken a real liking to Kit and think we will use it, ds talks to him and loves him already, I think it is too late to even think about changing! He is due end of April :)

We are doing ok thank you, sorry for the late reply! Ds is getting on real well and I have been referred for a PTSD class by IAPT, so hoping this will help

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/03/2020 19:54

Kytt pronounced Kite?

How do you work that out? it’d have to be Kyte.

OP, it’s a great name, but please stick to Kit.

Kitsmummy · 08/03/2020 20:07

I have a 16 year old Kit, it really suits him, he's never had any ribbing for it. Tbh as names go these days, it's hardly out there!

You love it and your dad loves it, stick with it!
