Or Kytt? Or Kitt

What are your thoughts?

I know its usually an abbreviation but I hate the longer names

I know there’s Kat / Cat for girls but at least that’s short for Catherine.

Kit is short for Christopher @77seven.

Thefaceofboe · 06/02/2020 11:34

Kit :)

77seven · 06/02/2020 11:40

Sorry, I had no idea it was a diminutive if Christopher.

DD’s friends brothers are called Kit and Cosmo, so I just thought it was that type of thing. Nothing wrong with being a bit different though.

NearLifeExperience · 06/02/2020 11:44

Cosmo is a real name, too!
Nothing like Biff and Chip.

KitMarlowesCodpieceOfThigh · 06/02/2020 11:46

@Prawnofthepatriarchy You rang? Wink

I am only Kit's codpiece, but I can vouch for the excellence of the name.

Blacksackunderthetreesfreeze · 06/02/2020 11:48

Kit is nice, but it is short for Christopher, and I would go with this as the full name, with an intention to nn Kit.

Thatnovembernight · 06/02/2020 12:10

Love it but only spelt Kit.

Jomarchsburntskirt · 06/02/2020 12:10

Never call your child a name that will need to be spelt out every time it’s used. Your child will not thank you for it.

victoriashleigh · 06/02/2020 12:14

I once taught the most wonderful little boy called Kit so I feel fond towards the name! It’s a nice name imo

Oulu · 06/02/2020 12:14

Lush? It's a perfectly OK name, but lush?

stophuggingme · 06/02/2020 12:17

@Fedupofitnow123 how are you doing?
I’ve got a Kit. He’s almost six and loves his name Wink

But not Kytt !

NearLifeExperience · 06/02/2020 12:18

I presume the poster who used "lush" is Welsh. People say it a lot around here to mean "very nice indeed" ! Smile

Doobigetta · 06/02/2020 12:19

“Kytt” sounds like an Ikea product.

stophuggingme · 06/02/2020 12:19

@Nearlife
And in the north east !

FloraGreysteel · 06/02/2020 12:20

Kit. Don't muck around with it!

lunasunshine · 06/02/2020 12:22

Kit is my husband’s name. I love it. Smile

His full name is Christopher but his mum said if she could go back in time she just would have put Kit on the birth certificate as no-one calls him Christopher!

Saddler · 06/02/2020 12:23

Reminds me of knight rider but I like the name

Chickenitalia · 06/02/2020 12:25

Love Kit. Hate Christopher, which is why it was vetoed as I didn’t think it worked as a given name by itself, and I couldn’t work out any other names it could be short for at the time.

I love ds name, but my imaginary 3rd child is called Kit still 😁

Damntheman · 06/02/2020 12:25

“Kytt” sounds like an Ikea product Entertainingly enough if you pronounce Kytt like a norwegian would, it sounds just like the word for 'shit' :o :o

Shinycat · 06/02/2020 12:38

@Fedupofitnow123

Kit is OK as a nickname/shortened name for Christopher (like with Kit Harrington,) but it's a bit daft for a stand-alone name/given name on birth certificate.

Also, calling your kids middle class names doesn't make them - or you - middle class. Be careful. Your son may get laughed at and mocked (and you may do too.)

'Kytt' is just beyond ludicrous and laughable. Just don't. Shock

UndertheCedartree · 06/02/2020 12:42

Kit is a nice name Smile What did your friend say about it?

NearLifeExperience · 06/02/2020 12:47

Also, calling your kids middle class names doesn't make them - or you - middle class

Who on earth has said anything about doing this? 🤔
I never realised that Kit was a middle class name or aspirational; the one I knew wasnt.

And why are you presuming that OP is not middle class?

CustardOmlet · 06/02/2020 12:54

My DS is Kitt Blush and yes be prepared for all the nicknames and references to Knight Rider. My DH is Christopher, and was against the full name going on his birth certificate. I wanted Crispian or Kester on the BC but in the end we stuck with Kitt.

Bouncebacker · 06/02/2020 13:23

I think it’s lovely for either sex. I have a friend called Kitty and she is mostly called Kit, that’s how she introduces herself

DejaVoodoo · 06/02/2020 14:05

Nice name, very cool. Literary connections and sounds old and modern at the same time.

Do spell it properly, though.
