Or Kytt? Or Kitt

What are your thoughts?

I know its usually an abbreviation but I hate the longer names

Those that know children called just kit, do they not get called, kitcat, pe kit etc during their teens?

I think it's nice, but the full name should be used, so that the young person/adult has an alternative.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/02/2020 14:28

Also, calling your kids middle class names doesn't make them - or you - middle class. Be careful. Your son may get laughed at and mocked (and you may do too.)

What a very weird thing to say. Are there specific.names people should avoid because they're above their station? Jim, for instance (two kings called James)? Or Liz (ditto queen's)?

Are you on glue?

FizzyIce · 06/02/2020 14:40

This is what my shiba inu is called .
It’s short for Kitsune which is Japanese for fox ,in his case

Bezalelle · 06/02/2020 14:50

Poncy/noncy.

JRUIN · 06/02/2020 14:54

It's awful. sorry.

DejaVoodoo · 06/02/2020 14:55

What do you mean by noncy, Bez?

Whattheother2catsprefer · 06/02/2020 14:57

Ooopps better tell my born in the East end in the middle of the blitz uncle Kit that his dear old salt of the earth, working class as they come mother gave him a "middle class name".

HauntedSocks · 06/02/2020 15:01

I love it...first came across it when reading The Old Curiosity Shop.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 06/02/2020 15:02

I love the name Kit. Kytt is surely pronounced the same way as kite?

It's a strong name OP. Ignore your friend. Why on earth did she feel the need to message you in the middle of the night about it other than to be spiteful?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/02/2020 15:04

Kytt? 😂 😂 😂 Er, NO.

** Kit
I like it, but I think I’d use Christopher on the birth certificate.

Sums up my view.

Roomba · 06/02/2020 15:08

I really like Kit. Kytt is awful though.

I know a couple of Kits where it's short for Christopher (It was on my shortlist for DS2). Also a woman named Kit (Short for Katherine). She never got called kitkat, pe kit or any other negative name AFAIK!

Abouttimemum · 06/02/2020 15:10

Kit is the name we gave to our lost baby boy. I love it.
I’m of the view that if that is what you want him to be called then put it on the birth certificate. He’ll just get called Chris otherwise. Parents aren’t in charge of nicknames.

LilyJade · 06/02/2020 15:28

Reminds me of the grumpy cat called Kit from next door at my childhood home.

LilyJade · 06/02/2020 15:30

Sorry @Abouttimemum just saw your post.
Apologies for my insensitive post, sorry for your loss.

OrangeSamphire · 06/02/2020 15:31

It seems fairly popular on MN.

I wouldn't choose it personally. I think it sounds a bit try hard.

Abouttimemum · 06/02/2020 18:17

@LilyJade Oh god don’t worry, one of my friends has just given her dog the same name as my baby! All names have connotations for others.... thank you though x

My grandfather was Kit from
Christian.

Abouttimemum · 06/02/2020 18:59

Sorry my phone had a fit 🤣🙈

DollyDaydream70 · 06/02/2020 19:03

I like Kit, it's a lovely name :-) I like short names that can't be shortened.

IndecentFeminist · 06/02/2020 19:07

We neatly went with Kit (Christopher for full) after a close friend/influential person in my life. Love it.
