Hairdresser ruined my jumper

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:23

As the thread title really, had a full head of foils at the hairdressers and I’ve discovered that the back of my jumper has a rather large bleach stain at the neckline the following day when I’ve picked it up to put in the washing. What’s annoyed me more is at the end of the haircut, the hairdresser said ‘oh x has wet your jumper too!’ And stood blow drying the back for a minute or so. No mention of bleach damage.

It’s a brand new jumper that I bought last week, not particularly expensive just annoying, particularly when I know think when was aware of it at the time and didn’t comment. What should I do?

I would go back and show them

StylishMummy · 05/02/2020 10:28

Did they offer you a gown and did you wear one?

drinkygin · 05/02/2020 10:29

The bleach stain may not have developed at that point. I would take it back and show them, see what they say- they really should offer to replace it.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 05/02/2020 10:30

What should I do?

What most people do and not wear new jumpers for hair colouring appointments Confused

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 05/02/2020 10:31

As a PP said, did you wear a gown. Also, you knew you were going to have bleach put on your hair so really you should have worn a jumper you don't particularly care about. Would you bleach the loo etc wearing that jumper. Difficult one really as of course the hairdresser should have been careful so maybe just go in and show her and see if she offers any solution.

This

RogueV · 05/02/2020 10:32

You wore a new jumper to a hair bleaching appointment? Blush

Also the bleaching wouldn’t have shown immediately.

I’d say tough shit, soz

Mammaof · 05/02/2020 10:32

Shouldn't really have worn a brand new jumper for a colouring appointment

steff13 · 05/02/2020 10:32

I would probably take it in and see if they'll replace it.

But, also, this: What most people do and not wear new jumpers for hair colouring appointments

I would never wear anything I cared about getting ruined to a color appointment. Accidents happen.

RitaTheBeater · 05/02/2020 10:34

The bleach probably wouldn’t have taken effect on the jumper while you were at the hairdressers. I agree with Betty. I wouldn’t wear anything I loved or that was new when I was around bleach but o would take it in and talk to them.

LagunaBubbles · 05/02/2020 10:34

Why didn't you wear something old? I don't mean to state the obvious but when I colour my own hair at home I wear an old t shirt, not something that I would risk ruining. Confused

This happened to me before, i was wearing a coat but the hairdresser still got dye on my jumper that wouldn't come out. They reimbursed me after i went in to show them. They tried at first to clean it themselvse by sending it to a dry cleaners but it wouldn't come out. Go back in with to show them and calmly discuss with them. To everyone else saying youw shouldn't wear good clothes to the hairdrssers, thats ridiculouse. You can wear what ever you want, a good hairdressers shouldn't make a mess, i undertsand accidents do happen however they should be trained not to make a mess.

Nanny0gg · 05/02/2020 10:46

You can wear a plastic cover, gown and towel but if you wriggle they can move. Ideally don't wear anything special.

I would go back and see what they say though

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:48

It was at the back wash I think the damage was caused, I had a gown and one of those rubber mats over the shoulders.

I understand at home dye jobs to wear scruffy clothes as I can’t visually see the back of my head. I expected trained professionals to work tidier as they can see what’s going on.

I’ve never had a hairdresser suggest I wear a scruffy top.

I wear old tops for getting my hair done iget dye on them even with a gown and towel you still get wet sometimes, are you going to take the jumper and show them what do you want them to do?

CactusLegs · 05/02/2020 10:48

I ALWAYS wear old clothes for hair colouring/bleaching. Cannot believe some people. Do people not have any commonsense anymore?

BigusBumus · 05/02/2020 10:50

Id say suck it up tbh. She didn't do it on purpose and perhaps you need to wear something old next time?

CooCooCoo · 05/02/2020 10:52

I’ve seen it happen when I worked in a salon. Tbh it’s madness if you go into a salon all dressed up. Far too many chemicals and water incidents all to happen.

I mean you could take it back, but it’s common sense really to think ahead of your appointment

Excited101 · 05/02/2020 10:52

Surely everyone knows not to wear new/naice clothes to the hairdressers, it’s a shame but it was her accident and your fault.

NameChange84 · 05/02/2020 10:53

I think I’d feel a bit cheeky going in to complain when I’d worn a brand new jumper to get my hair dyed. If it was me, I’d be taking the personal responsibility for it. I’d agree that it was unlikely that the stain had developed when the hairdresser saw it. They had taken the precautions of giving you the gown and rubber mat. I can’t see what much more they could have done. Just learn from it and don’t wear something new or high necked next time.

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:57

I think I’d be annoyed even if it wasn’t a new item of clothing.

Anything I’d happily wear out in public, I’d prefer not to get damaged during a professional service.

I can understand your annoyance but personally I’d be embarrassed going back and complaining about this tbh - it seems a bit petty. How much was the jumper? Didn’t they put a towel round your neck?

midnightmisssuki · 05/02/2020 10:59

Depends I guess - £10 jumper - I would probably let it slip. £300 merino wool jumper - I would tell them. Grin

NewMommy20 · 05/02/2020 11:01

I’ve never thought a hairdresser would ruin my clothes tbh. Never thought of wearing anything old either. It’s never happened to me & I do get full head of foils tooHmm

I’d go back & show them IMO it’s messy working
