Hairdresser ruined my jumper

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:23

As the thread title really, had a full head of foils at the hairdressers and I’ve discovered that the back of my jumper has a rather large bleach stain at the neckline the following day when I’ve picked it up to put in the washing. What’s annoyed me more is at the end of the haircut, the hairdresser said ‘oh x has wet your jumper too!’ And stood blow drying the back for a minute or so. No mention of bleach damage.

It’s a brand new jumper that I bought last week, not particularly expensive just annoying, particularly when I know think when was aware of it at the time and didn’t comment. What should I do?

im not sure what sort of crap ass hair dressers most of the humans commenting go to but no thats actually pretty shit service,
you should be able to go in your best clothes and get anything done and not have your clothes ruined,
she should have had a neck towel under the drape to absorb any water,
but also she should have had you seated correctly at the basin so that the water did not have a chance to dribble/flow down your neck,
take the top back in to show them and remind her that she said "x had got the top wet" and suggest that they replace it
thats really not good enough so stand your ground

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 11:02

All the protective equipment was used, I think it was the junior hairstylists technique that was lacking. She asked me to move/lift my head several times during the washing process.

Oh well, lesson learned. I think I’m going to cancel my touch up appointment and find a new hairdressers.

Butterflyflower1234 · 05/02/2020 11:03

OP you are not in the wrong here!!! It has happened to me too. They dropped bleach on my black top. I insisted that took that cost off the final price.

Go back and insist they pay for a replacement.

Pilot12 · 05/02/2020 11:09

Nothing, it's not the hairdressers fault you were stupid enough to wear a decent top to get your hair dyed. I always swap my top for an old black T-shirt before I go in. They'll offer you nothing and laugh at your cheek after you've left!

Sux2buthen · 05/02/2020 11:11

Disagree with nearly everyone. They use towels, rubber shoulder covers and a cape and still ruined your top. I would complain

Mumto1girl3boys · 05/02/2020 11:13

Dont wear a brand new jumper to get your hair coloured, simple really

KaptenKrusty · 05/02/2020 11:14

learn from your mistake and don't wear a bloody brand new jumper when you are getting your hair bleached???

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 11:14

But even if it wasn’t brand new I’d be annoyed! I like my bloody clothes!

How ridiculous, some of PPs are being. I used to be hairdresser many moons ago and we would def reimburse. Our fault!!

Should you wear scruffy clothes to your dentist as well, maybe a restaurant too. Foolhardy to wear smart clothes! What if they spill the soup!

Of course you should complain, ignore that shit about wearing something old to a hairdressers!!! Really!! You do know you're being judged by your very hip, young hairdresser!!

Just go back and show them, can't see it being a problem.

MsSafina · 05/02/2020 11:16

My hairdresser usually asks me to remove my jumper or cardigan just in case.

Sossadtoday · 05/02/2020 11:17

I def always take what I'm wearing into account, stuff happens. Laughing at the idea of wearing a £300 merino jumper to have your hair coloured..

MrsPerfect12 · 05/02/2020 11:19

I get it, I've had it happen to me too but it took me a long time to find a good hairdresser I wouldn't do anything to ruin that relationship. So in my instance although id be miffed I would just let it go. I don't wear my best clothes to get my hair done but I don't go scruffy either.

DollyDaydream70 · 05/02/2020 11:19

I agree that you should perhaps have worn an old jumper to a hair bleaching appointment. But shoulda woulda coulda isn't going to help here. Give them a call or take the jumper into the salon and show them the damage, see what they say. I was a hairdresser for many years and I personally would've probably reimbursed you the price of a cheap jumper (as long as you can bring proof of how much it cost). If it was me and my jumper though, I wouldn't bother, I'd put it down to experience and wear an old jumper or t shirt next time I get my hair bleached.. seepage sometimes can't be helped.

Highonpotandused · 05/02/2020 11:21

Never had to wear scruffy clothes for colour at hairdressers. They are in the wrong.

flowery · 05/02/2020 11:26

It has never occurred to me to wear old clothes when going to the hairdresser. (Or that not doing so counts as getting 'dressed up'!) I don't think 'everyone' does that at all. Otherwise you'd always get hairdressers saying as well as having a skin test you also need to wear old clothes when attending. They don't.

I have a gown on, plus the rubber mat thing when getting foils, and then when it's being washed out I obviously still have the gown plus a towel firmly around my neck. I go to the hairdressers from the office and straight back again anyway, so I'm not going to faff around getting changed into old clothes.

I'm sure if my hairdresser thought scruffy clothes were necessary, they'd say so. And I think they'd be horrified at this happening and at a hairdresser then blaming the client if it did.

tenlittlecygnets · 05/02/2020 11:35

People are being really harsh here! With gowns and rubber shoulder mat things, there is no need for bleach to ruin people's clothes! I have nevre ever thought about wearing old clothes to a professional hair colouring appt.

Even if OP had been wearing an older jumper, it would still have been ruined. OP, YANBU at all. Take your jumper back to the hairdresser and ask for compensation.

yabadabadontdoit · 05/02/2020 11:35

Blimey I can’t believe how many pp are blaming you for wearing something nice! Go back and show them your jumper. A professional hairdresser would refund to cover this, and there’s no need to change hairdresser. Yes mistakes can happen but that’s on the hairdresser to sort out, not for you to “suck it up”.
Like you I would be annoyed even if it was an old jumper, it shouldn’t have happened, but I would give them the chance to sort it.

Dollywilde · 05/02/2020 11:39

My hairdresser's is by work, if I'm getting it coloured I'll go straight after the office as that's the only time I can make it work. I don't have the option of putting on something 'scruffy' as I'll be in work clothes (which tbh are far more expensive than the usual crap I'd wear on a weekend!)

I'd be really disappointed in this and I do think the hairdressers should be refunding to cover this.

Nicknacky · 05/02/2020 11:40

It doesn’t cross my mind not to wear my everyday wear clothes to the hairdresser. The only thing I take into account is that I might be too warm and I fully expect them to work tidily although I accept an accident might occasionally occur.

I certainly don’t wear old crappy clothes to get my colour done and the people I see in the salon don’t seem to do that either.

butwhateverfor · 05/02/2020 11:45

This has happened to me! I did replace the dress, it was about £60, but I didn't say anything - lesson learnt, though!

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 05/02/2020 11:45

I'm so baffled by this thread! I used to be a hairdresser and it never would have occurred to me (nor was it EVER mentioned during my training or at any of the salons I worked at) to hell someone to wear old clothes during an appointment. That's sloppy, unprofessional work!

Flipswhitefudge · 05/02/2020 11:46

To all of the people that turn up at the salon looking like bag ladies, your hair stylists are judging you!

userxx · 05/02/2020 11:48

If bleach is being used on your hair there's a good chance it will get on your clothes, wear an old vest stop next time.

RachelEllenR · 05/02/2020 11:49

I've been having my hair highlighted for the past 25 years and have never had an item of clothing ruined so i don't think about what I wear to an appointment. I'd take it back and show them.

ChristopherTracy · 05/02/2020 11:49

I am another one who goes in my work lunch hour in my office clothes and would feel confident pushing back if something was ruined. I think they would expect that as well and be very apologetic - they are offering a service after all.

Stop putting up with sht service in this country, honestly.
