Hairdresser ruined my jumper

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:23

As the thread title really, had a full head of foils at the hairdressers and I’ve discovered that the back of my jumper has a rather large bleach stain at the neckline the following day when I’ve picked it up to put in the washing. What’s annoyed me more is at the end of the haircut, the hairdresser said ‘oh x has wet your jumper too!’ And stood blow drying the back for a minute or so. No mention of bleach damage.

It’s a brand new jumper that I bought last week, not particularly expensive just annoying, particularly when I know think when was aware of it at the time and didn’t comment. What should I do?

its Common sense to not wear a new jumper/clothes if your having your hair dyed. Sorry op. I don’t think the hair dressers are at fault !

keepingbees · 05/02/2020 13:29

This happened at a hairdressers I worked at once, the lady came back in to complain and the stylist who did her hair paid her the price of the top out of her own pocket.

I'd see how they respond to you raising it before you write them off and find a new hairdresser. It's just one of those things that can happen.

norealshepherds · 05/02/2020 13:29

I would never wear a new jumper to the hair dressers, especially if it’s bleaching

LagunaBubbles · 05/02/2020 13:34

To all of the people that turn up at the salon looking like bag ladies, your hair stylists are judging you!

There's a bit of a difference wearing a T shirt for example that you won't mind getting damaged if an accident happens and looking like a bag lady!

LisBethSalander07 · 05/02/2020 13:41

I would email them a photo in OP and say you're disappointed. They can't improve their service if they don't know about it.

I go to a higher end (for our closest town) hairdressers, and I wouldn't dream of wearing older clothes, you'd be massively judged for doing so. They put a gown on, a towel, then a rubber mat rather attractively covered with a plastic cape when I have my highlights done Grin

Having said that, I go there because I used to go somewhere else and the hairdresser covered my black jeans in bleach splatters. She was fully aware of having done so but made no effort to correct it. They were a fairly well worn pair, but still cost £35 to replace. I never went back.

Longdistance · 05/02/2020 13:43

I couldn’t give a fuck what my hair stylist thought I was dressed like a bag lady. She won’t be damaging my new jumper.
I had foils done on Saturday and wore an old top. The hairdresser dropped her brush at the back of my top with a dollop of dye on it 🤷🏼‍♀️

dibdabber · 05/02/2020 13:50

I have never seen anyone wearing scruffy clothes to a hair dresser. Quite the opposite. I don't go that often but wherever I have been I have always been usually the scruffiest or most boringly dressed and often feel out of place because of it!

They should refund you and be gracious about it. Accidents happen but they ought to be put right without it being a big deal.

1forAll74 · 05/02/2020 13:58

It was an accident, and people make mistakes sometimes. I would not go back,or complain at all.

Peoplearemiserable · 05/02/2020 14:06

You can wear that jumper to every hair dresser appt now.

amusedbush · 05/02/2020 14:06

It would never occur to me to wear my scruffs to the hairdresser! I see the senior stylist at a swanky place in town and I usually go on a Thursday when they are open late so I can go straight from work. Fair enough, I wear black skinny jeans, loafers and a blouse to work but I wouldn't feel comfortable turning up to have my hair coloured in trackies!

BillieEilish · 05/02/2020 14:16

Nobody said 'trackies' we said an older t shirt or top that you don't care about. Not a brand new one.

My hairdresser is grateful to me for doing so.

Jellybeansincognito · 05/02/2020 14:16

I think yabu. It’s not like it was a surprise to you that you were getting your hair coloured.
It was your responsibility to wear something appropriate.

Nobody should have to tell you not to wear a brand new item of clothing to a colouring appointment. Unless you generally need the obvious pointing out to you?

Baffy · 05/02/2020 14:17

Doesn't matter whether the jumper is new or not!

Your clothes were bleached. It was an accident yep, but you shouldn't be out of pocket.

I have never, ever heard of wearing old, scruffy clothes to the hairdressers.

Ever.
I quite often go straight from work with no time to change.

It was an accident. Their accident. They should reimburse and hopefully re-train the junior member of staff so that it doesn't happen to anyone else in the future.

If you say nothing, then nobody learns anything...

amusedbush · 05/02/2020 14:22

Nobody said 'trackies' we said an older t shirt or top that you don't care about.

The only clothes I own that I don't care about are my old trackies! I don't own a top or jumper that I would be happy to have ruined with hair dye.

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 14:24

That’s the back of the jumper.

I think I only mentioned it being new that I know exactly what I paid for it, but I’d be as annoyed if it happened to any of my other clothes. It was bought as a cheap throw on casual jumper, the kind of thing you wear to the hairdresser and a mooch around town/going for brunch.

I'd say the hairdresser was careless if your jumper was damaged, no hairdresser has ever damaged my clothing. That said I'd probably not bother about an inexpensive jumper and just buy another one. But I'd change my hairdresser.

Wexone · 05/02/2020 14:33

@bleachedjumper defoe go back that is unacepatable. I am someone who spends quite a bit of time in hairdressers be in for highlights cut or blowdrys. I would never go in my old clothes as peopl say i am either going after work or am heading out straight after. They should compensate you in some way and iwould defoe be looking for a new hairdressers

FinallyHere · 05/02/2020 14:38

I learned this the hard way, too.

I kept the top to wear to hairdresser appointments when bleach will be involved.

AmelieTaylor · 05/02/2020 14:45

your hair stylists are judging you!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can’t even find one small fuck to give about that, but actually I don’t think anyone of them at mine would. It says far more about YOU!!!

I don’t wear anything I’d be terribly bothered about getting ‘bleached’. Shit happens so I reduce the risk of it mattering 🤷🏻‍♀️

GiveHerHellFromUs · 05/02/2020 15:04

@BleachedJumper that was always going to sit quite close to your neck/hairline with you were sitting down.

aroundtheworldyet · 05/02/2020 15:12

This thread is mad.
What kind of shit shoddy hairdressers are you going to that you all think you shouldn’t wear good clothes.
If someone is that crap with BLEACH I don’t want them near any part of me let alone my hair.

Go in and complain.

Jojoanna · 05/02/2020 15:13

I go to the hairdressers straight from work. I would be annoyed to have bleach on my clothes.

TypingoftheDead · 05/02/2020 15:22

I'd go back and complain - bottom line I do think it's a two way street, and accidents happen, but the salon should have taken more care. For all they knew, you were going somewhere else after and wouldn't be able to go home and change beforehand.

ittakes2 · 05/02/2020 15:25

I make sure I don't wear anything too close to the back of my neck when I go for colouring and take out my earings!

Littlebb2020 · 05/02/2020 15:28

To all the people turning up at hair dressers looking like a bag lady. Your hair dressers are judging you!

Couldn’t give a fuck 🤷🏻‍♀️ As long as my clothes aren’t ruined they can judge what they want
