Hairdresser ruined my jumper

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:23

As the thread title really, had a full head of foils at the hairdressers and I’ve discovered that the back of my jumper has a rather large bleach stain at the neckline the following day when I’ve picked it up to put in the washing. What’s annoyed me more is at the end of the haircut, the hairdresser said ‘oh x has wet your jumper too!’ And stood blow drying the back for a minute or so. No mention of bleach damage.

It’s a brand new jumper that I bought last week, not particularly expensive just annoying, particularly when I know think when was aware of it at the time and didn’t comment. What should I do?

At the advise of my cousin I never wear anything I care about to get my hair done. However, I’ve never had anything ruined, and I breastfed my son whilst having my hair bleached.

Well I've been having my hair bleached at the hairdressers for over 10 years every 4-6 weeks.
They have never ever damaged a top of mine.
Just take it in OP and tell them what they've done.
Give them a chance to rectify it.
I know if it happened to me at my hairdressers they would have not hesitation in reimbursing me.
If they aren't apologetic or forthcoming the find another hairdresser.

You said "oh x has got you wet" which I read as an apprentice or junior was at the basins. I would go in, not all guns blazing, but calmly and quietly, and as soon as possible, to let them know, not for any kind of reimbursement (although a bonus if offered), as it sounds as though "x" may need retraining? Or the salon is going to be losing a lot of money on reimbursements if "x" keeps doing it to other customers!

Forgottenwhatsleepis · 07/02/2020 10:03

And all you saying if you dress like a bag lady you're being judged- aren't you then judging your hairdresser to be messy and incompetent, that's why you're not wearing your best clothes? 🤷‍♀️

FelicisNox · 07/02/2020 14:05

Take the jumper in with proof of purchase, tell them what you've told us and request a refund to buy a new top.

Hairdressers should cover you approximately and as such wearing a new top should not be an issue.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 07/02/2020 14:51

I never wear good clothes to get my foils done but actually nothing has got splashed either. I ways wear a smart jacket so only sport my "bag lady look" for less than a minute anyway.

PotteryLottery · 07/02/2020 18:04

My hairdresser tried to remove a stain but couldn't so reimbursed me for bleach on my maternity top.

Bubblemonkey · 07/02/2020 18:20

I rock up to hair appts looking homeless. Never crossed my mind to go looking anything but 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Aridane · 12/02/2020 18:44

Well fuck me - I didn’t know you were not supposed to wear naice clot he’s to the hairdressers!!!

oohnicevase · 12/02/2020 18:50

I always wear an old top to the hairdressers... common sense isn't it ??

Aridane · 12/02/2020 18:55

I guess I have worked on the basis that hairdressers have a modicum of skill - maybe I should start wearing my gardening clothes Grin

Aridane · 12/02/2020 18:57

I don’t want to look like a bag lady as I leave the salon with swishy ‘I’m worth it’ hair Grin

I've never had my hair bleached or foiled or dyed at a hairdresser as I do it myself, but I have had long hair spiral perms and I always wear old clothes, or at least an old jumper on. I also make sure I don't have any earrings in as well, because they can get in the way/get stuff on them. I don't understand why it occurred to you wear a good jumper, let alone brand new one, to a hairdresser? Especially when getting chemicals in your hair and going back and forth between the basin, where you will inevitably always get a tiny bit wet on the back of your neck. Lesson learned for you, dress appropriately to go to the hairdressers. It's a salon with chemicals, lotions, solutions and dyes, as well as scissors. You'd be absolutely mad to dress up well to go to the hairdressers.

I live in a large city and go to a premium city centre salon. I either go after work or on the weekend - I have an extremely busy social life so have always gone out straight after a weekend hair appointment, particularly as I’m already in town?

Therefore I’m either dressed in office attire or a nice outfit that’s good enough for whichever outing. I wouldn’t dare wear anything scruffy as again, busy city centre based so high chance of running into people I know. It’s also a hassle to go home from town, get changed, and go back into town just to avoid dye on your clothes. Especially via tube/train if you don’t drive.

At decent salons, getting colour/bleach on your clothes shouldn’t happen so wearing tatty clothes shouldn’t be the default.

Aridane · 12/02/2020 22:51

Exactly !

QuiteForgetful · 13/02/2020 05:56

Never had any of my stuff ruined in over 30 years of highlights. I'd bring the item in to show the manager, if you have the receipt for the top, bring that along with you. If it is a reputable place, they will be apologetic and refund the cost of the shirt.

OmgImBlondie · 15/02/2020 02:31

No don’t cancel your follow up appointment. Tell them what’s happened and give them a chance to sort it out. Any decent/good salon would welcome the chance to correct what’s happened. They will value your custom and want the chance to sort this out. Don’t write them off until you’ve tried. Small businesses will rely on your custom and will value the chance to correct what’s happened
