Hairdresser ruined my jumper

BleachedJumper · 05/02/2020 10:23

As the thread title really, had a full head of foils at the hairdressers and I’ve discovered that the back of my jumper has a rather large bleach stain at the neckline the following day when I’ve picked it up to put in the washing. What’s annoyed me more is at the end of the haircut, the hairdresser said ‘oh x has wet your jumper too!’ And stood blow drying the back for a minute or so. No mention of bleach damage.

It’s a brand new jumper that I bought last week, not particularly expensive just annoying, particularly when I know think when was aware of it at the time and didn’t comment. What should I do?

You seriously wore a new jumper to get your hair bleached? I would feel rather stupid trying to claim from the hairdresser if I were in your position. Chalk it down to experience and move on.

Nanny0gg · 05/02/2020 20:33

The rubber mat thing is usually used for cutting.

It's too thick to wear when you're having your hair washed. No wonder the junior struggled.

CooCooCoo · 05/02/2020 21:18

Wait OP
You were at the backwash, with just a cutting mat? No towel around the neck?

Generally drips at the back wash are caused by the client not sitting up well enough, but there was no reason to have a rubber mat on you until your hair was rinsed and ready to cut? Ideally they should have had a gown and towel round the neck, not a mat!

BigPinkFlower · 05/02/2020 21:20

You go in your old clothes

PeppermintPasty · 05/02/2020 21:56

I see this is still going, proving that the MN world is divided into weirdos who think you should go to a savage and careless bleach-crazy hairdresser in OLD clothes otherwise it’s YOUR OWN FAULT; and the rest of us who are right.

aroundtheworldyet · 05/02/2020 22:01

@PeppermintPatsy
Hahahaha
Brilliant

Sonichu · 05/02/2020 22:27

"I see this is still going, proving that the MN world is divided into weirdos who think you should go to a savage and careless bleach-crazy hairdresser in OLD clothes otherwise it’s YOUR OWN FAULT; and the rest of us who are right."

Or just people that understand there's a risk that you might get dye or bleach dripped on your clothes so might be best not to wear your brand new jumper to your appointment.

Screamqueenz · 05/02/2020 22:42

I have old clothes, but they are all good quality and I wouldn't want then damaged.
I wouldn't turn up to the hairdressers in DH old t-shirt.
But then I've had my hair dyed for over 30 years and never had an issue. So maybe i'm just lucky.

Hopingtobeamum · 05/02/2020 22:44

I agree. I've never had any issues with clothes being ruined during bleaching and colour.
If go back to the salon and speak to them

Hopingtobeamum · 05/02/2020 22:46

I've also being having my hair bleached and coloured for 25 years in various salons all over the country. To suggest it is your fault is ridiculous.
Clearly I wouldn't wear a polo neck as that would get in this way but to suggest you have to wear your 'painting clothes' is simply ridiculous

Nanny0gg · 06/02/2020 10:41

There's a difference between wearing your painting clothes and just not wearing your absolute best.

But the problem seems to be that the OP had the cutting mat on, which was ridiculous.

Titective · 06/02/2020 17:30

You lot have REALLY low standards and REALLY poor hairdressers!

When I was younger I had this a couple of times with hairdressers and thought it was the norm so would wear old clothes. I had low standards of what to expect from hairdressers and in hindsight, really poor hairdressers.

I've had the same hairdresser for 10 years now (small salon - owner does cut and co owner does colour) Literally never had a drop of bleach gone anywhere other than where it should and I now realise I shouldn't have put up with my clothes being ruined by poor hairdressers. And I absolutely shouldn't have accepted it as the norm. I wished I had complained years ago.

Yeahnah2020 · 06/02/2020 17:38

Well I’ve been getting my hair cut, coloured, foiled etc for 30 years, at various salons in numerous countries and I have never gotten a wet top. I’d definitely go back. Their technique is obviously not great.

2catsblack · 06/02/2020 17:43

Tell them. I would expect them to clean (probably not help if bleach) or replace. I always wore old clothes at home if I coloured my hair but often go straight out after the hairdressers so would expect my clothes to be protected.

DamnItsSevenAM · 06/02/2020 17:54

I've been having my hair coloured at the hairdresser for years and have never, never got bleach on any clothing or had anything ruined. I am completely surprised by people saying you should expect to get stuff ruined at a colour appointment and that you shouldn't raise it with the hairdresser! This definitely should not have happened.

cocktailsatdawn · 06/02/2020 18:04

They should have properly covered your clothes. Thats a part of the job when bleaching a person's hair.

Bexyp45 · 06/02/2020 18:12

To be fair they'd probably appreciate you telling them what happened so they can make sure the staff member involved knows to be a little more careful in the future - especially if they are a junior member of staff. No drama - just another lesson to learn when training. I agree, I don't think you need to wear old or scruffy clothes especially as we are kitted up with gown, rubber mat, and towel. It was a mistake that you should tell them about. If you like the salon do go back for your root touch up appointment, a good hairdresser is worth their weight in gold.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 06/02/2020 19:05

Why would you wear a new jumper to get your hair bleached???? I wear a old tshirt low neck.

flowery · 06/02/2020 19:25

”You lot have REALLY low standards and REALLY poor hairdressers!”

Exactly! I had my highlights done today and I lived dangerously and wore a relatively new cashmere jumper. I’ve been going to the same hairdressers for over a decade, they are extremely competent, no problems, ever, and certainly no indication from them that old clothes are necessary. I think they’d be offended at the suggestion tbh.

TSSDNCOP · 06/02/2020 19:29

My hairdresser won’t start colouring unless you’re gowned and collared. In hmm 35 years of colours I’ve never got it on my clothes. I think they were careless and they should reimburse you.

PeachyPeachTrees · 06/02/2020 19:41

I always wear old top just in case, but hair dye or bleach has never got on it. My hairdresser just asks clients not to wear big polo necks as it makes it awkward!

VeeJayBee · 06/02/2020 20:34

This happened to me too - never got my hair coloured before so didn’t think about it. Ruined a top, which was new Ish and I liked. It was v annoying but had to put it down to experience and didn’t wear a top I cared about next time I went. Think you might have to count your losses I’m afraid. Get you’re annoyed though x

Zipperdidoodaa · 07/02/2020 02:15

Well those of you saying to go in old clothes must go to utterly slapdash and unprofessional salons to have your hair done.
When I go to the hairdresser I’m often going out afterwards so tend to dress up rather than down, particularly as I also view it is as a bit of “me” time. At the salon I attend even the staff are smartly presented. Surely if there was a big risk of bleach being splattered about they would be wearing old togs or big overalls and would advise their clients to do the same.

Hi Op yanbu - get them to do the right thing and pay up

mnthrowaway202020 · 07/02/2020 02:29

Oh god, this happened to me! Instead of bleach on a jumper, it was brown dye across the neckline of a white blouse! I went to the salon right after work, and did ask if they thought I should take the blouse off (I had a backup option) but they said “don’t be silly, no colour will get on it!”

Yes I wore a gown and towels etc but if I’m being frank, it’s a shoddy salon. They’re very popular/expensive/premium but only five first class service to celebrity clients imo. I have had a wet back at virtually every appointment- I have finally stopped going now.

Boireannachlaidir · 07/02/2020 02:43

No-one is saying you have to go dressed as a scarecrow to a hair appointment.

It is common sense to take some personal responsibility in case of an accident & not wear a brand new or favourite top. This has no bearing on whether the salon is good or not. Shit happens and it can happen anytime.

Same with jewellery. I never wear my favourite earrings to a hair appointment or when trying on clothes in case they inadvertently get lost.

Such a blame culture is rife these days, it's always someone else's faultConfused
